The Internet of Things (IoT) detects context through sensors capturing data from dynamic physical environments, in order to inform automation decisions within cyber physical systems (CPS). Diverse types of uncertainty in the IoT pipeline can propagate within and across nodes, involving complex interactions with security, privacy, and trust that remain largely unexplored. This paper conducts an in-depth analysis of the types of uncertainties in IoT and how they propagate within IoT nodes and networks. We consider adversarial uncertainty in the context of distributed IoT networks to capture perturbations due to malicious actors in the network that can influence IoT security, privacy and trust. We examine the propagation of adversarial uncertainty and well-known uncertainty types, namely aleatoric and epistemic uncertainty, within the five distinct stages of sensing, communication, storage, processing and decision-making in an IoT pipeline, across network layer boundaries, and across nodes within an IoT network. Using this mapping, we analyse the interactions between the uncertainty types and their propagation, and security, privacy, and trust in IoT. Based on this analysis, we discuss guidelines and considerations for mitigating uncertainty in IoT through a smart grid use case study. © The Author(s) 2024.

EMARec: a sequential recommendation with exponential moving average

Capturing dynamic preference features from user historical behavioral data is widely applied to improve the accuracy of recommendations in sequential recommendation tasks. However, existing deep neural network-based sequential recommendation methods often ignore the noise information in user behavioral data that influence recommendation effectiveness, making recommendation models sensitive to noisy data. Additionally, these deep learning-based recommendation models often require a large number of parameters to capture user behavior patterns, leading to higher time complexity and susceptibility to overfitting due to noise fluctuations. To address these issues, in this paper, we apply the moving average concept from the field of time-series analysis to sequential recommendation tasks. The approach smooths sequence data, removes noise, making the data more stable and reliable, increases the model’s insensitivity to noise information, and better understands the evolution of user interests and behavioral patterns. Specifically, in our experiments, the moving average algorithm effectively denoises sequential data with low time complexity. Therefore, we propose a Sequential Recommendation with Exponential Moving Average with MLP architecture that makes the model more competitive in terms of time complexity. Experimental results conducted on two datasets demonstrate that EMARec outperforms state-of-the-art sequential recommendation methods across various common evaluation metrics. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

In this paper is presented implementation of a lightweight supervisory control and data acquisition system for remote test stations as a part of a larger test house in the automotive industry. It is necessary to allow remote set up and monitoring of the test stations, which means defining the structure of a system with numerous test stations as endpoints. The test stations are meant to be virtual machines but can be both virtual and physical machines. A communication protocol must be used that enables this within the organization's network, regardless of actual distance and location. The parameters of the test stations to be monitored can be defined according to the needs and purpose. Even when creating your own tool, this function is not unique, i.e. on one test station parameters of operating system resources such as memory usage can be monitored, while on another test station logged-in users or running programs, reported system errors and others must be monitored. Data storage is one of the mandatory functions of this system. This process allows viewing data throughout history and more detailed analysis of events. There are numerous benefits that can be drawn and used from the data stored in the database. It is necessary to pay attention to the data stored as well as the scope and retention throughout history. The correct and secure setup of a database is one of the prerequisites for any serious system that processes data. Appropriate views should be created for users involved in the data monitoring process using all the elements mentioned so far. Creating a visually acceptable and easy-To-use interface that serves the main purpose is the final presentation of the entire system to users. A complete system leads to higher productivity, profitability and better organization of the company. It also allows project managers to better plan the use and occupancy of test stations. This systematic literature review (SLR) study aims to analyze the role of New Media as a Tool to Improve Creative Thinking, with relevant articles from 2018 to 2023 taken from reputable international journals. It uses three research questions (RQ) to explore New Media's relevance in stimulating creativity. The results indicate that interactive platforms such as social media and online collaboration tools positively influence creative thinking skills. Interaction through New Media allows individuals to share ideas, discuss, and be exposed to various points of view, all of which stimulate creative thinking. In addition, New Media also facilitates the creative process of solving problems and generating original ideas. The immersive experiences offered by this technology can enhance the exploration of ideas and increase the ability to think out-of-the-box. While New Media offers great potential to enhance creativity, there are also potential risks, such as false information, media addiction, and privacy concerns. Therefore, awareness of the wise use of New Media needs to be increased, especially in education and everyday life. Overall, this literature review provides in-depth insight into the role of New Media in enhancing creative thinking skills and driving innovation. With the right approach, New Media can be an effective tool in stimulating creative thinking and encouraging the creation of original ideas beneficial for future social and technological developments. © 2023 IEEE.

Comparative Analysis of Ensemble Learning Techniques for Brain Tumor Classification

For the evaluation of our work, we used a brain tumor MRI dataset obtained from Kaggle for the experimental analysis. Our study investigates the performance of ensemble learning techniques for brain tumor classification. This study focuses on comparing the efficacy of homogenous ensemble classifiers, exemplified by the Random Forest (RF) algorithm, against heterogeneous ensemble classifiers like Voting and Stacking, this study embarks on a thorough evaluation journey. Our evaluation is not limited to accuracy measures only;instead, it surrounds recall, ROC AUC, precision, and F1-score, for better assessment of classifiers’ performance. Our findings demonstrate that the Random Forest classifier achieved an accuracy of 99%, an F1 score of 0.99%, and AUC of 0.99%, outperforming other ensemble techniques like Voting and Stacking classifiers. Building upon an observed assessment performed on an appropriately selected brain tumor dataset, we provide solid empirical support demonstrating that RF not only performs better than base classifiers but also outperforms the heterogeneous ensemble methods in terms of many different performance measures. Furthermore, we discuss the specific reason that makes RF outperform other algorithms in this dataset and discuss the robustness and flexibility of this method. By unscrambling these insights, this paper addresses to fill gaps in the existing knowledge regarding the ensemble learning techniques in medical imaging, particularly for brain tumor classification diagnostics. © 2024 Slovene Society Informatika. Question Classification plays a vital role in identifying the accurate answer to any question, and is considered as a core component of Question Answering Systems. In Nepali Natural Language Processing, the area of Question Answering has not even been initiated due to a lack of dataset. The dataset of Nepali factual questions has been created by collecting questions from general knowledge books and labelling them with developed taxonomy. The problem of Nepali factoid question classification has been studied with a Support Vector Machine, which works as a baseline classification algorithm and obtained a 0.74 weighted F1-score in the imbalance dataset. The experimental results of the proposed model show the effectiveness of the approach in classifying factoid questions accurately compared with the state-of-the-art approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

Skin cancer is one of the most prevalent types of cancer globally, with its incidence steadily rising over the past decades. Early and accurate detection of skin cancer plays a pivotal role in improving patient outcomes and reducing mortality rates. In recent years, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have emerged as powerful tools for automated image analysis and classification, offering promising results in various medical imaging tasks, including skin cancer detection. This paper provides a comprehensive review and analysis of CNN-based approaches for skin cancer classification. We discuss the challenges associated with traditional methods of skin cancer diagnosis and highlight the potential of CNNs in addressing these challenges. Furthermore, we survey state-of-the-art CNN architectures, dataset collections, preprocessing techniques, and evaluation metrics commonly used in skin cancer classification tasks. We also delve into the transfer learning and data augmentation strategies employed to improve model generalization and robustness. Additionally, we review recent advancements in interpretability techniques for CNNs, which enhance the transparency and trustworthiness of automated skin cancer diagnosis systems. Finally, we discuss the limitations and future directions of CNN-based approaches in skin cancer classification, emphasizing the need for large-scale, diverse datasets, standardized evaluation protocols, and interdisciplinary collaborations to facilitate the clinical translation and deployment of CNN-based diagnostic tool. © 2024 IEEE.

This research aims to produce an e-learning system that better suits the needs of end users, supports various learning modes more effectively and efficiently and increases the effectiveness and efficiency of e-learning systems by identifying and overcoming usability problems faced by users. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, surveys, and direct observation of students and lecturers to understand the needs, limitations, and context of use. Data processing involved in-depth analysis of user feedback to inform the initial design of the prototype, which was then evaluated through the Cognitive Walkthrough (CW) method. The updated prototype was iterated based on User Centered Design (UCD) principles, which emphasize user participation in every stage of design to ensure an intuitive and responsive solution. The expected result is the creation of an HCI model for e-learning applications that is more responsive and intuitive, as well as capable of increasing the use of e-learning. © 2024 IEEE.
