Robust reconstruction of curved line structures in noisy point clouds

The rapid growth of urban areas, population, and pollution presents a significant environmental challenge. Addressing these challenges requires innovative analytical approaches and data sources. This study focuses on the three-scale phenomena of the environmental system, physical environment, and regional surroundings, considering their implications on a global network scale. Remote sensing data, with its easy accessibility, offers new toolkits and methods to improve the global environment. It provides self-consistent measurements of vital physical attributes and surpasses traditional data sources regarding accuracy, efficiency, and coverage of larger geographical areas. This study aims to identify and analyze appropriate satellite image analysis tools for healthcare. The study objectives include studying available tools, analyzing their features, categorizing tools into open-source and commercial categories, and providing recommendations. This study emphasizes feature extraction and image enhancement parameters, which are crucial for image analysis. Rapid urbanization, population expansion, and escalating pollution levels have given rise to novel environmental concerns that demand the application of creative, analytical methodologies and diverse data sources. To ensure efficient urban ecological management, it is crucial to consider three levels of phenomena: the environmental system, the physical environment, and the regional surroundings. Utilizing remote sensing data is a viable avenue for enhancing the global environment due to its convenient accessibility and ability to measure crucial physical features regularly. The primary objective of this research study is to ascertain and evaluate suitable methods for analyzing satellite imagery in the healthcare context. The study’s aims encompass examining the diverse array of tools accessible in the market, scrutinizing the characteristics of each device, exploring research papers that have employed these tools, and classifying the tools into open-source and commercial classifications. In this paper, we investigate the suitability of different visual representations of pathological growth and shrinkage using surface models of intracranial aneurysms and liver tumors. By presenting complex medical information in a visually accessible manner, audiences can better understand and comprehend the progression of pathological structures. Previous work in medical visualization provides an extensive design space for visualizing medical image data. However, determining which visualization techniques are appropriate for a general audience has not been thoroughly *** conducted a user study (n = 40) to evaluate different visual representations in terms of their suitability for solving tasks and their aesthetics. We created surface models representing the evolution of pathological structures over multiple discrete time steps and visualized them using illumination-based and illustrative *** results indicate that users' aesthetic preferences largely coincide with their preferred visualization technique for task-solving purposes. In general, the illumination-based technique has been preferred to the illustrative technique, but the letter offers great potential for increasing the accessibility of visualizations to users with color vision deficiencies. © 2024, The Authors. simulations of human blood and airflow are playing an increasing role in personalized medicine. Comparing flow data of different treatment scenarios or before and after an intervention is important to assess treatment options and success. However, existing visualization tools are either designed for the evaluation of a single data set or limit the comparison to a few partial aspects such as scalar fields defined on the vessel wall or internal flow patterns. Therefore, we present COMFIS, a system for the comparative visual analysis of two simulated medical flow data sets, e.g. before and after an intervention. We combine various visualization and interaction methods for comparing different aspects of the underlying, often time-dependent data. These include comparative views of different scalar fields defined on the vessel/mucous wall, comparative depictions of the underlying volume data, and comparisons of flow patterns. We evaluated COMFIS with CFD engineers and medical experts, who were able to efficiently find interesting data insights that help to assess treatment options. © 2022 The Author(s) © 2022 The Eurographics Association.

A microwave kiln, made of silicon carbide and ceramic fiber, commonly employs in a household glassware production process. In this process, when the kiln was in a microwave oven, a microwave transmitted to the kiln generating a high temperature to fuse the glass inside. This article presents a thermal simulation to investigate the temperature inside the kiln based on multiphysics consisting of a high-frequency structure simulator (HFSS) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The multiphysics results revealed the temperature inside the kiln in a transient state, consistent with the experimental results. As expected, the temperature increased with the increasing time of the process. Significantly, the silicon carbide had higher temperatures than the ceramic fiber;therefore, silicon carbide is a crucial material for generating heat inside the kiln. In addition, the temperature-increasing rate (TIR) inside the kiln depended on the kiln's thickness (Th). As a result, the thinner Th provided better TIR. The research findings can be applied to develop a high-efficacy household glassware production process. © 2023 IEEE.

Interdisciplinary exchange of medical datasets between clinicians and engineers is essential for clinical research. Due to the Data Protection Act, which preserves the rights of patients, full anonymization is necessary before any exchange can take place. Due to the continuous improvement of image quality of tomographic datasets, anonymization of patient-specific information is not sufficient. In this work, we present a prototype that allows to reliably obscure the facial features of patient data, thus enabling anonymization of neurological datasets in image space. © 2021 by Walter de Gruyter Berlin/Boston.

Estimation of importance for considered features is an important issue for any knowledge exploration process and it can be executed by a variety of approaches. In the research reported in this study, the primary aim was the development of a methodology for creating attribute rankings. Based on the properties of the greedy algorithm for inducing decision rules, a new application of this algorithm has been proposed. Instead of constructing a single ordering of features, attributes were weighted multiple times. The input datasets were discretised with several algorithms representing supervised and unsupervised discretisation approaches. Each resulting discrete data variant was exploited to construct a ranking of attributes. The effectiveness of the obtained rankings was confirmed through a rule filtering process governed by weighted attributes. The methodology was applied to the stylometric task of authorship attribution. The experimental outcomes demonstrate the value of the proposed research method, as it generally led to improved predictions while taking into account a noticeably decreased sets of attributes and decision rules.

The added value of map representations of statistical mass data is now highly appreciated in big business. Most statistical maps are produced by non-experts using to GIS technologies or mapping functions embedded in statistical programmes. However, the range of semi-automated tools offered does not exploit the full potential of cartographic visualisation. Most map representations of statistical data colour administrative units resulting in area cartograms or choropleth maps. Visualisation of these area-related data need to focus on correct representation of the area rather than on the topographic elaboration boundary polygons. Hence the simplification or generalisation of the polygon lines becomes important for visual communication and perception. Up to date, no generally accepted rules exist for the generalisation of the polygon lines of area cartograms in which presentation scales. This paper deals with solution approaches in line generalisation using square grids. The area of feature selection methods constantly expands along with the development of artificial intelligence domain, and has great impact on almost every field, whenever data is processed and explored. The paper presents research where a ranking method was proposed, inspired by an approach which comes from an algorithm for induction of decision rules. The ranking procedure was based on calculation of standard deviation for attributes, taking into account assigned class labels. This method was compared with another ranking mechanism, a modified version of popular Relief algorithm, with incorporating characteristics of variables by supervised discretisation. Comparison of obtained results included the aspect of knowledge representation as well as the perspective of the accuracy for constructed rule-based classifiers. The experiments were performed on datasets from stylometry domain, where authorship attribution was considered as a classification task, and stylometric descriptors as characteristic features defining writing styles of authors. © 2022 The Authors.
