data preprocessing is an important step in data mining. It is used to resolve various types of problem in a large dataset in order to produce quality data. It consists of four steps, namely, data cleaning, integration, reduction and transformation. The literature shows that each preprocessing step consists of various techniques. In order to develop quality data, a data miner must decide the most appropriate techniques in every step of data preprocessing. In this study, we focus on data reduction particularly data discretization as one important data preprocessing step. data reduction involves reducing the data distribution by reducing the range of continuous data into a range of values or categories. data discretization plays a major role in reducing the attribute intervals of data values. Finding an appropriate number of discrete values will improve the performance of the data mining modelling, particularly in terms of classification accuracy. This paper proposes four levels of data discretization taxonomy as follows: hierarchical and non-hierarchical; splitting, merging and combination; supervised and unsupervised combinations; and binning, statistic, entropy and other related techniques. The taxonomy is developed based on a detailed review of previous discretization techniques. More than fifty techniques are investigated, and the structure of the discretization approach is outlined. Guidelines on how to use the proposed taxonomy are also discussed.

TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) is the standard of DTRS (Digital Trunked Radio System) developed by the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). Currently, TETRA has been selected as the power IT wireless backbone network in Korea while the traditional distribution automation system has used the wireless network of mobile service provider using CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) modems. Therefore, the development of gateway platform is indispensable according to the change to the TETRA network. In this paper, we propose an embedded Linux-based gateway platform for transmitting industrial power IT protocol using TETRA network.

The demanding usage of wireless technologies has brought opportunities for the online learning communities to participate in network Based Project Learning (NBPL). However, if the projects in NBPL are not initiated by the industries, the graduate students are unable to gain the required skills in solving the real world problems. Lack of commitment from the non-office-based mobile workers due to the accessibility, availability and mobility constraints make the functionality of NBPL ineffective. In this paper, we introduce mobile NBPL which is integrated with Mobile Announcement System (MASY) in order to provide a great amount of freedom in accessing NBPL via mobile devices. This system is designed to facilitate student-lecturer-mobile worker interaction, provide broadcast information and ease collaborative work through the use of mobile devices. Besides, we also discuss the design, development and implementation of mobile NBPL, the architecture and the technology used as well as how the experiments are being conducted. The functionality testing has been carried out in the faculty of Information Technology and Quantitative sciences, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). A preliminary experiment result and experience that we have learned from this system will also be discussed.
One objective of the policy-based networking paradigm is to enable a formulation of operational goals on level that is more generic and abstract than the low level configurations understood by various networking devic...

This paper proposes a new concept of the genetic robot which has its own robot genome, in which each chromosome consists of many genes that contribute to defining the robotpsilas personality. The large number of genes also allows for a highly complex system, however it becomes increasingly difficult and time-consuming to ensure reliability, variability and consistency for the robotpsilas personality while manually initializing values for the individual genes. To overcome this difficulty, this paper proposes an evolutionary algorithm for a genetic robotpsilas personality (EAGRP). EAGRP evolves a gene pool that customizes the robotpsilas genome so that it closely matches a simplified set of features desired by the user. It does this using several new techniques. It acts on a 2 dimensional individual upon which a new masking method, the Eliza-Meme scheme, is used to derive a plausible individual given the restricted preference settings desired by the user. The proposed crossover method allows reproduction for the 2-dimensional genome. Finally, the evaluation procedure for individuals is carried out in a virtual environment using tailored perception scenarios.

National Institute of Information and Communications Technology of Japan (NICT) completed a project on new-generation mobile communications networks for beyond 3G or 4G in March 2006. This paper presents our vision of new-generation mobile communications networks from networking perspective and their capabilities to be offered: fast and large-capacity handover, cross-network handover, cross-device handover, and interworking between real and cyber worlds. Then, Metro Mobile Ring network technology for the first capability, MIRAI architecture for the second and third capabilities, and other works are presented.
