Predicting software vulnerability based on software metrics: a deep learning approach

The security of IT systems is the topmost priority of software developers. Software vulnerabilities undermine the security of computer systems. Lately, there have been a lot of reported issues of software vulnerabilities recorded in individuals and corporate systems. Software metrics-based techniques have been used and found to be effective due to low false positives and false negatives. However, there are software metrics that have not been investigated and could have an impact on the performance of the predictive model. In this study, we developed an ensemble deep learning algorithm made of LSTM, CNN, and MLP models with the non-investigated metrics as a feature to learn the latent representation of code metrics to predict anomalies in source code effectively. We trained the proposed model on the SySeVR datasets and compared the model's performance against five deep learning algorithms and four state-of-the-art SVPs. The proposed model performs better than the other deep learning with a classification accuracy of 96.17%, and a precision of 97.72%. The model's classification accuracy is 4.98% higher than that of the five deep learning models and 1.71% lower in precision than the state-of-the-art SVP. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Skin cancer's increasing incidence rates necessitate advanced diagnostic tools. This research uses MobileNet architecture to develop an enhanced system for skin cancer detection. MobileNet's efficient CNN architecture, combined with Keras for model lifecycle management and TensorFlow for real-time inference, forms the foundation of this study. Using 10,015 dermatoscopic pictures from seven different classifications of skin cancer in the HAM10000 dataset, the methodology includes several key stages: image preprocessing to correct illumination and adjust resolution, data augmentation to balance the dataset, and model training using Transfer Learning. The MobileNet model was trained over 50 epochs with a comprehensive architecture incorporating multiple specialized layers. By combining large-scale data analysis and adaptive learning, this methodology demonstrates The revolutionary possibilities of AI and ML in improving skin cancer diagnostics and public health outcomes. Medical data are subject to privacy regulations, which severely limit AI specialists who wish to construct decision support systems for medicine. Large amounts of this data are tabular, indicating that they are organized into a table format, where patient records are represented in rows and measured variables in columns. Furthermore, the variables come in different types-some are numerical, while others are categorical. In this work, we introduce a novel method for constructing generators of synthetic tabular data with mixed types. The key point of our approach is the explicit utilization of a latent space to represent the original data. A case study using real medical data is presented. © 2024 The Authors.

Unveiling the Safety Aspects of DevSecOps: Evolution, Gaps and Trends

Background: The popularity of DevSecOps is on the rise because it promises to integrate a greater degree of security into software delivery pipelines. However, there is also an unacceptable risk related to safety that cannot be overlooked, given the importance of this aspect in many industries. Objective: The objective of this study is to provide an overview of the safety aspects reported in the literature on DevSecOps. This study also characterizes such aspects and identifies the gaps that may lead to future research work. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using five well-known academic databases. The search was executed in September 2021 and March 2022 to identify relevant studies. Results: The search returned 114 academic studies. After the screening process, five primary studies published between 2019 and 2021 were selected. These studies were analyzed thoroughly to identify the safety aspects. Then, we categorized them into three main groups: (i) risk-related safety aspects, (ii) human-related aspects, and (iii) management aspects. Conclusion: Safety is an important characteristic that is becoming more critical as the number of critical systems grows. This review reveals that only a scarce number of studies are focusing on safety in DevSecOps. However, those studies gave us some insights into this topic. Therefore, our main observation is that this topic has not yet been completely explored in the academic literature. This review can encourage reflection and discussion between the safety and security communities. © 2023 Bentham science Publishers.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) applications are added day by day owing to numerous global uses (by the military, for monitoring the atmosphere, in disaster relief, and so on). Here, trust management is a main challenge. Sensor nodes are important in wireless sensor networks, but they are easily depleted because of their short lifespan from continuous sensing activity and low battery capacity. So efficient energy utilization is a challenging task in a WSN. To minimize energy loss, clustering with an optimum path selection process is needed to retain energy in sensor nodes. This manuscript proposes multi-objective Pelican Optimization Algorithm (POA) routing to maintain energy efficiency and minimize transmission distances in wireless sensor networks. A cluster head (CH) is selected by using a Separable Convolution Neural Network (SCNN). Simulation outcomes prove the proposed technique attains 22.3% and 25.04% improvements in energy consumption when compared to the Multi-Objective CH Energy-aware Optimized Routing Approach at WSN (MOCH-EORA-WSN) and Multiple Optimum Cluster Head Multi-Objective Grasshopper Optimization with Harmony-search at WSN (MOCH-MOGOH-WSN), respectively. © 2024 Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea. Comment analyzers were widely employed across industries for sentiment analysis, social media monitoring, and customer feedback evaluation. These tools facilitated insight into public opinions and sentiments expressed in comments on various platforms. Sentiment analysis is a natural language processing technique that determines the emotional tone of the text, helping to categorize it as positive, negative, or neutral, making it valuable for understanding public opinion and customer feedback. With the explosive increase of comments, it is difficult to analyze them manually. The issue arises because online content is huge and complicated, making it tough to grasp the subtle emotions and attitudes people have in their comments. This mystery surrounding digital conversations needs a solution: a Comment Analyzer with Sentiment Analysis. Text categorization in the form of sentiment analysis incorporates NLP, machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, Power BI for data analysis, and other study areas. These limitations highlight the need for more sophisticated sentiment analysis techniques, such as the Vader sentiment analysis provided in this study, to overcome existing system shortcomings and increase sentiment classification accuracy. The Comment Analyzer using Sentiment Analysis represents a pioneering approach to unraveling the cryptic sentiments embedded within the myriad comments and discussions that saturate the digital sphere. We are using data sets such as YouTube video comments and Ecommerce Product comments. © 2024 IEEE.

The garment industry is the second-most polluting industry after oil. These mass-produced clothes if rejected are dumped and have an enormous impact on the environment. Therefore, to save the cost post production it is important to identify any sorts of defects pre-production when clothes are in a textile form, so that in case the fabric lacks somewhere in quality it can always be replaced, saving all the time and cost. This detection is possible using techniques like segmentation, or on the basis of texture or by using deep learning algorithms each having its own advantages and disadvantages to efficiently identify the defects in textile fabric. This paper is a comprehensive study of these three techniques and comparison made on basis of brief analysis which say that the deep learning technique is the best of the three for detection of defects keeping in contrast the type of research and developing technologies. © 2023 IEEE.

Mutual character dialogue generation with semi-supervised multitask learners and awareness

Consistent efforts have been ongoing to improve the friendliness and reliability of informal dialogue systems. However, most research focuses solely on mimicking human-like answers. Therefore, the interlocutors’ awareness features of the dialogue system are left unexplored. Meanwhile, cognitive science research reveals that awareness is a crucial indicator of an effective, high-quality informal conversation. This research aims to boost the quality of the conversational generation system by factoring in awareness of the interlocutors in the design and training of the dialogue system model. The Generative Pre-Trained Transformer-2 (GPT-2) model was implemented into the Persona Perception (P²) Bot to achieve the objectives of this study. This was to precisely develop model's understanding, P² Bot was implemented using a transmitter–receiver-based structure. The P² Bot leverages mutual persona awareness to improve the quality of customized dialogue generation. GPT-2 is a 1.5B parameter transformer model that produces state-of-the-art accuracy in a zero-shot setting on seven of the eight evaluated language modeling datasets. The observations of the proposed model on a sizable open-source dataset, PERSONA-CHAT, proved successful, with improvement above the state-of-the-art baselines in both automatic measures and human assessments. The model has achieved 82.2% accuracy on Hits@1 performance metrics in the original data and 68.8% on the revised data. On the human evaluation, the model scored an average of 2.66, pointing out that the responses provided were coherent and informative. A dialogue generation model with character and awareness which can communicate like an informative human expert was introduced.
