Cloud providers offer serverless functions such that users can focus on the business logic and worry only about the code and application, leaving scaling, security, software updates, and everything else to the cloud provider. However, the minimal user interactions with the configuration of the functions may result in errors executing the code or may not scale properly. In this research, we analyze different implementations of a complex cloud function that requires execution in less than 10 seconds and analyze the responses from AWS and GCP serverless platforms. We observed that AWS can activate a maximum of 1000 instances, although they claim a higher number, while GCP can reach a maximum of 3000 active cloud instances. However, GCP faces another problem of activating only a smaller number of cloud instances for executing small-sized functions. This limitation might surprise the user since it generates a lot of errors with a 'request timeout' response. We elaborate on lessons learned by comparing AWS and GCP functions with details on the bad performance of GCP Cloud Functions in our experiments. © 2023 IEEE.

Lampung Province has a very strategic location, situated at the southern tip of Sumatra Island, making it the only gateway for those who want to enter Sumatra Island. Lampung script is a traditional script used by the Lampung community to write the Lampung language. This script has its own uniqueness and is continuously preserved by the Lampung people. However, with technological advancements, the use of Lampung script has decreased, especially among the younger generation who are more familiar with digital technology. To preserve the Lampung script and increase interest in learning the Lampung language, an augmented reality (AR) based Lampung script recognition application has been developed for learning purposes. Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that can display the real world with virtual objects in real-time. This application utilizes AR technology to create a more interactive and engaging learning experience for users. It is developed to facilitate the community, especially children and the younger generation, in learning the Lampung script. By using AR technology, users can directly view the Lampung script on their smartphone or tablet screens, making it easier for them to understand the form and writing style of the Lampung script. This application uses marker-based tracking AR method, which uses markers or special recognition patterns/images that will be scanned by the AR device's camera. Users can easily scan different markers if they want to learn different Lampung scripts. It is hoped that the use of marker-based AR method in this application can enhance users' interest and motivation in learning the Lampung script. Additionally, this application also serves as an attractive alternative for a more interactive Lampung script learning experience. © 2023 IEEE.

We are currently in a period of upheaval, as many new technologies are emerging that open up new possibilities to shape our everyday lives. In this article, we explore how an increasing amount of online services and tools not only further facilitates our lives, but also shapes our lives and how we perceive our environments. The coronavirus disease pandemic that began in 2019 had an extraordinary impact. Not only in the health aspect but also in various other aspects of people's lives. One of the most severe aspects is the economy of the community. Many people whose income is disturbed even must be laid off from work. Therefore, the government of the Republic of Indonesia adopted various policies to solve these problems. Cash Social Assistance (BST) is one of the government's policies to overcome the community's economic problems. However, in various media outlets, it was reported that there were indications that BST was not on target. There are many allegations that BST recipients are close to social service officials and even the head of the local neighborhood association. The purpose of this research is to propose analytical techniques as recommendations to the local government for prospective BST recipients. Thus, the determination of BST recipients can be more objective. This research uses the AHP method to analyze prospective BST recipients based on several established criteria. TOPSIS is used to determine prospective BST recipients based on the analysis results using AHP. The results of this study included 21 people who were recommended as BST recipients and are compared to the data owned by the Social Service office to see the accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Heart disease is one of the most common diseases in Jordan. It is a major reason of death among Jordanian adult citizens. Worldwide, an average of 56,000 people dies each day or one death every 1.5 seconds. Hence, this research is interested in the early prediction of this disease among Jordanian people. To achieve this main objective, Machine Learning (ML) is utilized through a large number of classification models and considering five well-known evaluation metrics. These classification models have been trained on a primary dataset that has been collected for the purpose of the research. The results revealed that RandomForest and RandomCommittee are the best classification models to handle the task of the early prediction of Heart disease in Jordan. © 2024 IEEE.

Blob detection is a primary requirement in computer vision and image processing tasks. Unique visual traits are obtained by identifying blobs in an image. Variations in colour, texture, intensity, or shape are just examples of these attributes, which make blob detection a flexible tool for a variety of image analysis applications. The technique of separating the objects in the binary image is called Binary Large Object (blob) extraction. Every representation technique provides distinct insights into the properties of the blob, which facilitates further processing and interpretation. Techniques for classifying blobs according to their size, shape, texture, and colour are presented, highlighting their importance involving object recognition and classification. The categorization of blob detection techniques presented in this work includes, encompassing Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG), Difference of Gaussian (DoG), Difference of Hessian (DOH), and Connected Components (Labelling). The results demonstrate that LoG and DoG detect a higher number of blobs, with LoG detecting the most (1,366 blobs), while DoH focuses on larger blobs but with a smaller count (777 blobs). Moreover, DoH had the largest mean blob size and higher variability in blob size, while DoG exhibited the fastest detection time (4.27 seconds). © 2024 IEEE.

To give shift in safety protocols, we have employed advanced deep learning algorithms and frameworks (Shrestha and Mahmood in IEEE Access 7:53,040–53,065, 2019 [25]) to construct an innovative AI model. The designed model detects the usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) (Personal protective equipment. Geneva: World Health Organization, 2020 [18]) by workers in high-risk industries such as construction and manufacturing. We have used Google’s TensorFlow object detection API (Sai and Sasikala in Object detection and count of objects in image using tensor flow object detection API, pp 542–546, 2019 [22]) to modify and train a model for dual purposes: PPE detection and face recognition. The state-of-the-art of this research is to substantially enhance safety compliance by addressing the prevalent issue of PPE non-compliance. To emphasis this, we have developed a pioneering software prototype that synergizes PPE detection with a face recognition-based clock-in system. This prototype demonstrates impressive object detection metrics with a mean average precision (mAP) of 0.9 for vests and 0.85 for helmets. Moreover, it exhibited efficient face recognition with a successful threshold range of 17–20%. The implementation of AI in our system promises significant enhancements to worker safety, while concurrently reducing the financial burden associated with big hazards and accidents. Beyond the development and performance of the system, this paper provides a thorough exploration of the encountered challenges, potential real-world applications (particularly in employee monitoring and clock-in systems), and the future implications of this study on research and practical applications in the field of AI-integrated safety compliance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

There are problems of initial value and DC bias in the flux observer of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), which will lead to errors in the estimated electrical angle. Based on the flux observer combined with high-pass filter (HPF), a new frequency-adaptive phase compensation (FAPC) scheme is proposed in this paper. The cut-off frequency of HPF is dynamically adjusted according to the electric angular frequency of the rotor, so that the required angle compensation of the filtered signal is kept at +45 or -45 degrees, which simplifies the algorithm implementation. Experiments including steady-state test and rotation switching test are performed, which can verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2023 IEEE.

The use of batteries as an energy storage medium has a very important role in the installation of renewable energy power plants, such as photovoltaics to overcome intermittency in photovoltaics and to maintain stable power quality. In this study, the installation of solar plants that was used as the research object was a smart micro grid that integrates photovoltaic electrical energy sources with the Utility electricity network for residential scale. The battery monitoring system is used to manage the performance of existing batteries on the electricity grid through analysis of the battery's electrical values such as current, voltage, power and energy, so that it can function optimally in storing electrical energy and supplying electricity to users. Internet of things (IoT) technology is used to provide easy transfer of data obtained through the process of data acquisition to data visualization provided to be accessed by users in real time. This research aims to develop an IoT-based battery monitoring system. The development carried out focuses on the data acquisition process, the data transfer process using IoT technology, the process of analyzing and visualizing data on the IoT cloud and remote access to users. © 2024 IEEE.
