Stability issues for switched systems whose subsystems are all Sugeno fuzzy discrete-time systems are studied and new stabilization control results derived. Innovated representation models for switched fuzzy systems are proposed. The single Lyapunov function method has been adopted to study the stability of this class of switched fuzzy systems. Sufficient conditions for quadratic asymptotic stability are presented and stabilizing switching laws of the state-dependent form employed in PDC scheme are designed. Illustrative examples demonstrate the effectiveness and the feasible performance of the proposed synthesis through the respective simulation results.

A neural-adaptive control solution is exposed in this paper. The control strategy is based on the linear adaptive neuron, which is called ADALINE. Unlike other neural control solutions, based on perceptrons neurons characterized by a long time learning process and a difficult on-line tuning of weights, this approach uses a fast algorithm, which adapts on-line the neuron's weights. Therefore the non-linear character of control law is induced by the permanent changes of neuron weights, which are variable parameters of controller. A set of study cases is done, with application to the excitation control of a synchronous generator.

This paper presents issues regarding short term electric load forecasting using feedforward and Elman recurrent neural networks. The study cases were developed using measured data representing electrical energy consume from Banat area. There were considered 35 different types of structure for both feedforward and recurrent network cases. For each type of neural network structure were performed many trainings and best solution was selected. The issue of forecasting the load on short term is essential in the effective energetic consume management in an open market environment.

The investigated control problem of nonlinear time-delay discrete-time systems is addressed using Takagi-Sugeno model. Parametric uncertainty and time-delay terms are employed in building the Takagi-Sugeno model for the controlled plant for the purpose of close representation of the original plant system. The integrity and robustness are guaranteed for the closed-loop fuzzy system in sense of Lyapunov stability method via fuzzy state observers. Sufficient conditions for the fuzzy system to possess integrity against actuator failures and sensor failures in the closed-loop are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities under assumption of known bounds on uncertainties. The results for trailer-truck example are used to illustrate the effectiveness of the method.

Considering the large amounts of data that is nowadays produced in the biochemistry (functional genomics) it is difficult to extract the information from the measurements. There is currently also a great interest in the development of novel analytical technologies for rapid screening of disease symptoms in pharmaceutical and clinical applications. Modeling and simulation can provide a useful help in understanding the relations of the measured substances and to minimize the need for measurements. The BioChem library presented here is the first free Modelica library available for mathematical modeling of biochemical processes. Three examples are shown to illustrate the library. First, a simple insulin model is presented. Then a simplified model of cholesterol together with simulations are shown. Next, a simple drug model together with parameter estimation in NONMEN are presented. The BioChem library allows for fast and end-user friendly modeling of biomedical systems. The graphical user interface provides graphics similar to that used in the description of metabolic pathways in biochemistry.

In 1991 he joined the National University of Singapore and is currently an associate professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. His research interests lie in the fields of learning control variable structure control fuzzy logic control discontinuous signal processing and applications to motion control and process control problems. He is the associate editor of Asian Journal of Control member of TC on variable structure systems and sliding mode control of IEEE Control Systems Society and a senior member of IEEE. He has produced more than 90 peer-refereed journal papers near 160 technical papers in conference proceedings and authored/edited 4 books. The switched reluctance motor (SRM) and drive system is a candidate in various applications including the home appliance. The simple and low cost system with an adequate performance is also one topic to be developed. A speed sensor directly increases the cost and it directly influences the reliability of the system. This paper proposes a simplified variable speed control system for the SRM without using an encoder. The method is not based on the exact rotor position estimation, only the turn off angle is determined from the simple relation between measured terminal voltage and current. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the experimental result on the 3 kW 3-phase 6-stator-pole and 4-rotor-pole SRM.
