This paper presents stability analysis of the time-delayed equivalent control based single input sliding mode control systems using an LMI approach. Conditions to guarantee the boundedness of the control system trajectories under the time-delayed equivalent control based sliding mode control are obtained. Maximum upper bound of the delay time to guarantee stability is estimated. Digital simulations are conducted to verify the theoretical results.

The paper deals with a single machine scheduling problem with job processing times dependent on continuously-divisible resource, e.g. gas, power, energy, raw materials, catalyzer, financial outlay. Ready and delivery times are also given for each job. The problem is to find a schedule of jobs and resource allocation that minimize the time by which all jobs are delivered. Genetic approach, using some proved problem properties is constructed to solve the problem being strongly NP-hard. Analysis of some computational experiment and conclusion remarks are also given.

This article gives a capsule view of research on rough set theory and applications ongoing at universities and laboratories in China. Included in this capsule view of rough set research is a brief description of the following things: Chinese research groups on rough set with their URLs for web pages, names of principal researchers (supervisors), numbers of graduate students, and topics being investigated. Statistical summaries showing the growth in the research on rough set theory and application in China are included. In addition, an introduction summarizing the research interests of Chinese researchers is included in this article. The contribution of this article is a complete overview of the principal research directions in rough set theory and its applications in China. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In this paper we present two algorithms for information extraction from Single Look Complex (SLC) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images. The first algorithm is based on Tikhonov regularization with Total Variation (TV) and a Point-Based Feature (PBF) term. Based on the equivalence of Tikhonov and the Bayesian estimate, the second algorithm is a Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) estimation with a complex-valued Gauss-Markov Random Field (GMRF) in addition to the TV prior. The first algorithm produces a despeckled image preserving fine details and texture. The second algorithm gives a denoised image and in addition the estimated feature parameter vector thetas.

This paper presents uniformly ultimate bound-edness (UUB) control design for switched linear systems with parametric uncertainties. Only the possible bound of the uncertainty is needed. Under arbitrary switching laws, a continuous state feedback control scheme is proposed in order to guarantee uniformly ultimate boundedness of every system response within an arbitrary small neighborhood of the zero state. The design techniques are based on common Lyapunov functions and Lyapunov minimax approach.

This paper deals with the actuator fault diagnosis and accommodation problem for the aero space vehicle (ASV). A novel nonlinear robust adaptive observer is developed for estimation of the actuator fault under the Lipschitz condition on the nonlinear part of such systems, which is used to continuously accommodate the control signal, so as to ensure the stability of faulty system. Finally, simulation results about ASV are presented to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methods.

The joystick is the operation interface of general electric wheelchair. The user needs to operate it in accordance with machinepsilas operational procedure specifications. Therefore the joystick is convenience operation system for the system side rather than the user side. We focus on the body motions which humans have, and try to realize a new type of interface which replaces conventional joystick. The body motions is time-series data which contains ambiguousness, the common motions are extracted from this data and inputted to the electric wheelchair interface. Then the body motions are able to control the electric wheelchair. In particular this paper describes the design of the prototype and results of basic experiments.

There is an important evidence of differences in the EEG frequency spectrum of control subjects as compared to epileptic subjects. In particular, the study of children presents difficulties due to the early stages of brain development and the various forms of epilepsy indications. In this study, we consider children that developed epileptic crises in the past but without any other clinical, psychological, or visible neurophysiological findings. The aim of the paper is to develop reliable techniques for testing if such controlled epilepsy induces related spectral differences in the EEG. Spectral features extracted by using nonparametric, signal representation techniques (Fourier and wavelet transform) and a parametric, signal modeling technique (ARMA) are compared and their effect on the classification of the two groups is analyzed. The subjects performed two different tasks: a control (rest) task and a relatively difficult math task. The results show that spectral features extracted by modeling the EEG signals recorded from individual channels by an ARMA model give a higher discrimination between the two subject groups for the control task, where classification scores of up to 100% were obtained with a linear discriminant classifier.

Mutual interaction of pulses in three-conductor coupled lines

This paper presents an analysis how the pulses in the long three-conductor coupled lines with common screen interact mutually. The interaction of pulses appears in those places of the line, where there is a change in characteristic impedance causing a change in reflection coefficient for pulses moving along the line. An exemplary analysis is conducted for a homogenous lossless line both at its starting and terminal point. The results of the analysis are analytical expressions describing quantitative interactions of pulses. The expressions are verified numerically and experimentally involving measurements of the real-life line. The mutual interaction of pulses can be useful in location of faults in electric power lines by means of the pulses method.

Calculation of core loss using the Jiles-Atherton model incorporated into magnetic field analysis

The paper deals with the calculation of hysteresis power loss in cores of electromechanical converters. The analysis was carried out using the Jiles-Atherton model of ferromagnetic hysteresis incorporated into two-dimensional time-stepping finite element model. A vector hysteresis model was constructed by the vectorisation of a scalar model. The total power loss due to hysteresis was split into two component, one originating from the purely alternating magnetic field, and the second being a consequence of the local predomination of vector nature of magnetic field distribution. Two computational examples are presented showing the general applicability of the algorithm for determination of power loss distribution.
