Recent developments in autonomous vehicle technologies and applications gain a lot of interest by the public, as the popularity of both driver assistance and automated driving systems increase. One of the most promising aspect of the autonomous vehicle compared to conventional human driven vehicle is the increased level of safety. Machine learning techniques enables to achieve fast and efficient control actions compared to model based techniques. However, the advantages of a more conservative model based controller are their better robustness properties. In this paper a synergy of the two control philosophy is presented through a trajectory tracking control design for autonomous vehicles. A supervised reinforcement learning (RL) control method is introduced, where a robust Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) controller supervises the operation of the trained RL agent. Thus, in case sensor noise is detected, the guaranteed stability LPV controller takes over the steering control action. In order to demonstrate the operation of the proposed method, three different simulations have been evaluated and compared in CarSim simulation environment.

Data poisoning attacks, where adversaries manipulate training data to degrade model performance, are an emerging threat as machine learning becomes widely deployed in sensitive applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of data poisoning including attack techniques, adversary incentives, impacts on security and reliability, detection methods, defenses, and key research gaps. We examine label flipping, instance injection, backdoors, and other attack categories that enable malicious outcomes ranging from IP theft to accidents in autonomous systems. Promising detection approaches include statistical tests, robust learning, and forensics. However, significant challenges remain in translating academic defenses like adversarial training and sanitization into practical tools ready for operational use. With safety and trustworthiness at stake, more research on benchmarking evaluations, adaptive attacks, fundamental tradeoffs, and real-world deployment of defenses is urgently needed. Understanding vulnerabilities and developing resilient machine learning pipelines will only grow in importance as data integrity is fundamental to developing safe artificial intelligence. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2023.

This study aims to improve the performance of message data transmission in Aggregated Robot Processing (ARP) architecture where the RELIABLE option of the RELIABILITY QoS (Quality of Service) policy is applied to a ROS 2 (Robot Operating System 2) node communication. Basically, the RELIABLE option guarantees that a publisher properly send all message data to a subscriber. However, the publisher could fail to transmit some message data to the subscriber even in the RELIABLE QoS option unless the buffer size of the publisher is enough. We introduce local cache to a sensing component to alleviate the issue in the case that the sensors output the same value in a row. The experimental results showed that the local cache improved the latency and reduced the message loss in node communication.

The paper presents project and its verification of a prototype integrated circuit containing an analog, programmable finite impulse response (FIR) filter, implemented in CMOS 350 nm technology. The structure of the filter is based on the switched capacitor technique. In circuits of this type, one of main challenges is an efficient implementation of filter coefficients, which result from several factors described in this work. When implementing such filters as programmable circuits, the values of their coefficients have to be limited to a selected range, i.e. a given resolution in bits. In the implemented prototype filter, the filter coefficients are represented by 6 bits in sign-magnitude notation, so they can take 63 different values only. In such filters, it is not possible to directly implement any frequency response of the filter. Each time, it is necessary to properly round the theoretical values of the coefficients so that they fit into the available range of discrete values resulting from the implementation. The authors of the work designed an algorithm that allows such matching. The paper also presents results of measurements of the prototype chip.

The paper describes the energy consumption from the battery based on the current measurements for various cases, i.e., speed (PWL adjustment) and loads. The main purpose of the research is to have additional and reliable information about power consumption and battery life estimation for autonomous guided vehicles (AGV). The authors propose a two-step algorithm. In the first step, a linear classifier was proposed. Then, the KNN classifier was tested; however, it did not give satisfactory results, so it was finally decided to use the random forest to estimate the load and PWL. The time domain current measurement is evaluated, and the beforementioned algorithms process the selected statistical measures. It has been proven that a two-step algorithm allows for achieving high accuracy. Based on the current observation, the paper is a good starting point for further investigation of the AGV because it is usually implemented in the AGV – so it does not require additional hardware. Moreover, it can lead to better energy management and increase battery lifetime.

Climate change and geopolitics have led to the conception of plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the sustainability of existing fossil-based energy systems. In this respect, district heating has been identified as an indispensable player for its potential to integrate seamlessly environmentally-friendly heat sources. To improve the efficiency of these district heating systems, optimal operation schemes can be devised and enforced through control systems. To this end, we present a control-oriented nonlinear ODE-based model of temperature dynamics in a multi-producer district heating system. The model features a modular design and comprises the thermal dynamics of heat exchangers of producers and consumers interconnected by a distribution network of meshed topology. Then, we establish passivity properties and zero-state detectability for the modeled temperature dynamics that could be exploited for controller design and solving constrained optimization problems.

Marine toxins present considerable challenges to public health due to their intricate biochemical profiles that complicate effectual analysis. In addressing this, our study utilizes a pioneering Ecoinformatics method, employing artificial intelligence to meticulously examine the hepatotoxic effects of stonefish venom on murine models. The convergence of biochemical assays, histopathological scrutiny, and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms is strategically designed to unravel the complex modalities of venom-induced toxicity. Our findings offer unprecedented insight into the hepatotoxic dynamics of marine venoms, underscoring the utility of AI in advancing marine toxin research. This multifaceted research not only deepens our comprehension of venom pathology but also forges a pathway toward enhanced antivenom solutions, thereby reinforcing public health measures in marine and coastal ecosystems. © 2023 IEEE.

Lyapunov Characterization for ISS of Impulsive Switched systems

In this study, we investigate the ISS of impulsive switched systems that have modes with both stable and unstable flows. We assume that the switching signal satisfies mode-dependent average dwell and leave time conditions. To establish ISS conditions, we propose two types of time-varying ISS-Lyapunov functions: one that is non-decreasing and another one that is decreasing. Our research proves that the existence of either of these ISS-Lyapunov functions is a necessary and sufficient condition for ISS. We also present a technique for constructing a decreasing ISS-Lyapunov function from a non-decreasing one, which is useful for its own sake. Our findings also have added value to previous research that only studied sufficient conditions for ISS, as our results apply to a broader class of systems. This is because we impose less restrictive dwell and leave time constraints on the switching signal and our ISS-Lyapunov functions are time-varying with general nonlinear conditions imposed on them. Moreover, we provide a method to guarantee the ISS of a particular class of impulsive switched systems when the switching signal is unknown. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Identifying different vehicle types can help manage traffic more efficiently, reduce congestion, and improve public safety. This study aims to create a classification model that can recognize vehicle types based on the sound of passing vehicles. To achieve this, a database of raw audio files containing 1763 samples from two sources was assembled. The time-domain signals were converted to a time-frequency representation using the short-time Fourier transform to generate Mel Spectrograms. Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) were also generated using the discrete cosine transform. In our experiments we compared these approaches. Since the data was imbalanced we applied online augmentation. Based on the literature review, we chose a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) classifier because it is particularly well suited for analyzing large datasets due to its automatic feature extraction, parameter sharing and sparsity. The results showed that Mel Spectrograms were more effective for audio data preprocessing in this particular use case, achieving the highest accuracy of 0.875 and the highest f1-score of 0.877 compared to MFCCs. © 2025 IEEE computer Society. Incidence of surge within axial compressors profoundly influences efficacy, reliability of aero-engines. Conventional methodologies in engine design have predominantly concentrated on precise ,efficient forecasting critical characteristics during such occurrences. paper presents novel approach for predicting surge phenomenon in axial compressors. Surge is a major issue in operation axial compressors, causing reduced performance, increased wear, tear, complete machine failure. proposed approach utilizes NN model based on compressor's design data to forecast behavior of compressor's working map under off-design conditions. model is verified using real data collected over five years during compressor operation, including opening angle (IGV), important parameter often ignored or assumed to be fixed in previous studies. results show NN-based approach effectively predicts compressor's behavior under different operating conditions, providing valuable insights into onset of surge , offering real-time surge prediction ,control ,ability to predict compressor's working map enables optimizing its performance , controlling instability. model was validated by comparing its predictions with real operating conditions observed over five years across various compressor operating modes. As result, predictive model enables safe operation of axial compressors by mitigating instability risks during operation. study's findings highlight model's effectiveness, as evidenced by minimal error observed between predicted and actual data collected across various compressor operating modes. model exhibits strong performance, characterized by high regression factor of 0.92667 , low mean squared error of 3.04465 x 10^-3. numerical values underscore reliability , precision proposed approach in predicting operation of axial compressor under diverse conditions, ultimately contributing to enhanced stability , safety during compressor operations. © 2024, The Authors.
