UAVs are playing an increasingly important role in the field of wilderness rescue by virtue of their flexibility. This paper proposes a fusion of UAV vision technology and satellite image analysis technology for active wildfires detection and road networks extraction of wildfire areas and real-time dynamic escape route planning for people in distress. Firstly, the fire source location and the segmentation of smoke and flames are targeted based on Sentinel 2 satellite imagery. Secondly, the road segmentation and the road condition assessment are performed by D-linkNet and NDVI values in the central area of the fire source by UAV. Finally, the dynamic optimal route planning for humans in real time is performed by the weighted A* algorithm in the road network with the dynamic fire spread model. Taking the Chongqing wildfire on August 24, 2022, as a case study, the results demonstrate that the dynamic escape route planning algorithm can provide an optimal real-time navigation path for humans in the presence of fire through the information fusion of UAVs and satellites.

This work concerns the investigation of time-optimal control problem for a simplified mobile robot model subject to state constraints. In this type of problems, which involve the so-called unicycle dynamics, the well-established regularity conditions with respect to the state constraints are not fulfilled. This fact greatly complicates the analysis of the control problem bearing in mind the use of the maximum principle. Moreover, the difficulty is also due to the presence of a singular control mode with respect to the angular velocity. Herein, a regularization approach is proposed in order to overcome these obstacles. A certain tool for the numerical implementation is developed. The numerical analysis is provided for a sample problem.

Facial expression recognition plays a pivotal role in comprehending emotions and social interactions, particularly in individuals grappling with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), who often encounter challenges in non-verbal communication. For some with ASD, even subtle shifts in their facial expressions can prove elusive, rendering it arduous to categorize their emotional states accurately. Consequently, the analysis and processing of facial expression data hold the potential to facilitate early autism diagnosis, thereby enabling timely therapeutic interventions and alleviating the economic and psychological burdens experienced by patients. In this study, we introduce an enhanced approach that leverages a fuzzy convolutional neural network (CNN) and an Improved Binary Genetic Algorithm (IBGA) for autism diagnosis based on facial expression data. Our model confronts the intricate task of recognizing facial images by selecting salient features employing the IBGA method. Moreover, it employs fuzzy weights to ascertain the probability of similarity within the classifier layer. Our proposed model has yielded impressive outcomes, boasting an average accuracy of 0.9405 for ASD detection and 0.9365 for the recognition of six distinct facial expressions. These results hold profound implications for the enhancement of emotion recognition systems and the refinement of interventions aimed at bolstering social interactions for individuals grappling with ASD. © 2024, The Authors. A Unifying Passivity-Based Framework for Pressure and Volume Flow Rate control in District Heating Networks

A fundamental precondition for the secure and efficient operation of district heating networks (DHNs) is a stable hydraulic behavior. However, the ongoing transition towards a sustainable heat supply, especially the rising integration of distributed heat sources and the increasingly meshed topologies, introduce complex and potentially destabilizing hydraulic dynamics. In this work, we propose a unifying, passivity-based framework which guarantees asymptotic stability of any forced hydraulic DHN equilibrium while allowing for meshed, time-varying topologies and different, dynamically interacting distributed heat sources. To establish the desired hydraulic equilibria, we propose decentralized, passivity-based pressure and volume flow rate controllers for the pumps and valves in the actuated DHN subsystems. In particular, we leverage the equilibrium-independent passivity (EIP) properties of the DHN subsystems, the skew-symmetric nature of their interconnections, and LaSalle's Invariance principle to assess asymptotic stability in a modular manner. The obtained results hold for the state-of-the-art as well as future DHN generations featuring, for example, multiple distributed heat sources, asymmetric pipe networks, and multiple temperature layers. This paper considers distributed online nonconvex optimization with time-varying inequality constraints over a network of agents. For a time-varying graph, we propose a distributed online primal–dual algorithm with compressed communication to efficiently utilize communication resources. We show that the proposed algorithm establishes an O(T max{1−θ1,θ1}) network regret bound and an O(T 1−θ1/2) network cumulative constraint violation bound, where T is the number of iterations and θ1 ∈ (0, 1) is a user-defined trade-off parameter. When Slater’s condition holds (i.e, there is a point that strictly satisfies the inequality constraints at all iterations), the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(T 1−θ1). These bounds are comparable to the state-of-the-art results established by existing distributed online algorithms with perfect communication for distributed online convex optimization with (time-varying) inequality constraints. Discretisation often constitutes a part of initial data preparation stage. It translates continuous domain of features into granular, by assigning a number of intervals to represent attributes' values by nominal categories. Typically all real-valued features are subjected to transformations, regardless of their characteristics. The paper presents research on discretisation executed with a discerning approach. To all available attributes, feature selection mechanisms were employed, in the form of rankings that order variables based on their importance. Exploiting this discovered knowledge on attributes, discretisation was then driven by a ranking, and either highest or lowest ranking features were selected for transformation. The influence of selective discretisation on the performance of classification systems was studied for three popular inducers. The procedure was employed in the field of stylometry, and a task of authorship recognition, considered as a binary classification with balanced classes. The experiments show that discretisation based on importance of features can lead to better performance than in the case of transformations applied to all attributes. © 2020 The Authors. While the $$H_\infty $$ observer-based control has found widespread application in the literature for integer-order systems, researchers have shown less interest in addressing the same issue within the fractional-order framework. In this context, this study delves into the application of $$H_\infty $$ observer-based control for the Hadamard fractional-order system (HFOS) described by the Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy models (TSFM). Using Lyapunov approach and by employing a matrix decoupling technique, LMI based conditions ensuring the existence of an observer and controller, are proposed. To minimize the impact of disturbances on the controlled output, $$H_\infty $$ optimization technique is used. The validity of our approach is substantiated through an example, underscoring the robustness and reliability of our proposed findings.

The performance of Interline DC Power Flow controllers (IDC-PFCs) in Voltage Source Converters (VSC)-based High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) grids, can be affected due to different issues. The current limitation of HVDC lines, the voltage limitation of HVDC buses, and DC voltage of the IDC-PFC intermediary capacitor prevent effective and efficient operation of IDC-PFCs. In this paper, it is shown that this issue can be overcome by using a virtual capacitor in parallel with the IDC-PFC intermediary capacitor. Also, an energy control-based scheme is proposed for the operation of IDC-PFCs in VSC-HVDC grid. The benefits of using the virtual capacitor are: widening the operational area of the IDC-PFCs for the determined duty cycle and injecting more voltage in series to the interconnected HVDC line to control the related HVDC line current. The proposed solution is successfully evaluated on a CIGRE three-terminal VSC-HVDC grid which is modeled by linearized space-state equations.
