The paper presents a study on the performance of a secured system for command and control that monitors the variation of skin electrical conductivity, and can be used in motion control using joy-stick systems, where firm control is required and where any wrong controls or accidental movements (flight control, remote control robots or automatic systems, etc.) must be eliminated.

Small-gain theorem for stability, cooperative control and distributed observation of infinite networks

Motivated by a paradigm shift towards a hyper-connected world, we develop a computationally tractable small-gain theorem for a network of infinitely many systems, termed as infinite networks. The proposed small-gain theorem addresses exponential input-to-state stability with respect to closed sets, which enables us to analyze diverse stability problems in a unified manner. The small-gain condition, expressed in terms of the spectral radius of a gain operator collecting all the information about the internal Lyapunov gains, can be numerically computed for a large class of systems in an efficient way. To demonstrate broad applicability of our small-gain theorem, we apply it to the stability analysis of infinite time-varying networks, to consensus in infinite-agent systems, as well as to the design of distributed observers for infinite networks. The paper proposes the modeling of a driver behavior in lateral vehicle control design purposes. Nowadays significant emphasis is placed on the development of autonomous vehicle systems which motivates to research in this area. Using a properly designed driver model during cornering ensures the comfort of the passengers and provides predictable motions for the drivers of conventional vehicles and pedestrians. In this paper the vehicle control is based on picture frames provided by an onboard mono-camera, which is used by an image processing algorithm to calculate the present and the predicted lateral errors. The identified driver model defines the instantaneous steering angle using the calculated errors and several dynamic parameters of the vehicle. One of the dynamic variables, the longitudinal speed was used as a scheduling variable to determine the actual operating region of the system. The formulated driver model is verified through a real-time running simulator software, where the measured values of the steering angles can be compared with calculated ones. The simulation showed the accuracy and reliability of the formulated driver model. © 2019 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a self-organizing heuristic iterative algorithm for solving Travelling Salesman Problem. In the algorithm, firstly priority values of the edges are determined. Then, varied solutions are found. After that, the priority values of the edges are updated according to these solutions. Then, all the edges are sorted in descending order according to the priority values and in order to improve solutions an iterative algorithm is used. Greedy algorithm is used to find the solution in each iteration and the priority values of the edges are updated according to the solution. The proposed algorithm is compared with Nearest Neighbour and Greedy algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is efficient. © 2016

In this paper, the nonlinear dynamics of the biological system modeled by the fractional incommensurate order Van der Pol equations are investigated. The stability of the proposed fractional non-autonomous system is analyzed by varying both the fractional order derivative and system parameters. Moreover, very interesting phenomena such as symmetry, multi-stability and coexistence of attractors are discovered in the considered biological system. Numerical simulations are performed by considering the Caputo fractional derivative and results are reported by means of bifurcation diagrams, computation of the largest Lyapunov exponent, phase portraits in 2D and 3D projections.

Defect engineering in metal oxides presents a promising approach for tailoring material properties. This strategy enhances gas sorption, catalysis, and control over key physical characteristics such as bandgap, magnetic behavior, and electrical conductivity. Despite its potential, the role of defect engineering in advancing metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas-sensing performance remains underexplored. This review introduces defect engineering strategies, emphasizing their applications in gas sensing. Gas sensors play a vital role in environmental monitoring, industrial safety, healthcare, and in improving energy efficiency. The demand for advanced gas sensors has never been more critical, given the need for real-time, accurate, and cost-effective detection of pollutant gases. MOS-based gas sensors are widely used in air quality monitoring, industrial safety, and health diagnostics. Vacancies and defect architectures in MOS have been widely studied for their role in sensing performance, as they fundamentally influence sensor efficiency. The effectiveness of MOS sensors largely depends on the type and concentration of defects. This review introduces vacancies and defects in MOS, followed by an in-depth discussion of defect types, factors influencing defect formation, and their role in charge transport. Additionally, it examines the correlation between elemental chemical properties and defect chemistry. Special attention is given to the defect chemistry of metal oxides, including TiO₂, ZnO, Co₃O₄, ZrO₂, WO₃, and CeO₂. It concludes with an examination of surface engineering methods for defect control to improve gas-sensing capabilities. © 2024

Communication-centric Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) has been recognized as a promising methodology to implement wireless sensing functionality over existing network architectures, due to its cost-effectiveness and backward compatibility to legacy cellular systems. However, the inherent randomness of the communication signal may incur huge fluctuations in sensing capabilities, leading to unfavorable detection and estimation performance. To address this issue, we elaborate on random ISAC signal processing methods in this article, aiming at improving the sensing performance without unduly deteriorating the communication functionality. Specifically, we commence by discussing the fundamentals of sensing with random communication signals, including the performance metrics and optimal ranging waveforms. Building on these concepts, we then present a general framework for random ISAC signal transmission, followed by an in-depth exploration of time-domain pulse shaping, frequency-domain constellation shaping, and spatial-domain precoding methods. We provide a comprehensive overview of each of these topics, including models, results, and design guidelines. Finally, we conclude this article by identifying several promising research directions for random ISAC signal transmission. © 2025, CC BY-SA.

Globally, many research works are going on to study the infectious nature of COVID-19 and every day we learn something new about it through the flooding of the huge data that are accumulating hourly rather than daily which instantly opens hot research topics for artificial intelligence researchers. However, the public’s concern by now is to find answers for two questions;1) when this COVID-19 pandemic will be over? and 2) After coming to its end, will COVID-19 return again in what is known as a second rebound of the pandemic?. This research developed a predictive model that can estimate the expected period of time that the virus can possibly stopped and the risk of a second rebound of COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this study considered SARIMA model to predict the spread of the virus on several selected countries and is used for pandemic life cycle and end date predictions. The study can be applied to predict the same for other countries as the nature of the virus is the same everywhere. The advantages of this study are that it helps the governments in making decisions and planning now for the future, reduces anxiety and prepares the mentality of people for the next phases of the pandemic. The most striking finding to emerge from this experimental and simulation study is that the proposed algorithm show that the expected COVID-19 infections for the top countries of highest number of confirmed case will slowdown in October, 2020. Moreover, our study forecasts that there may be a second rebound of the pandemic in a year time, if the current taken precautions are eased completely. We have to consider the uncertain nature of the current COVID-19 pandemic and the growing inter-connected and complex world, what are ultimately required are the flexibility, robustness and resilience to cope up the unexpected future events and scenarios. © 2020, CC BY.

This paper presents a new way of multi-sensor performance evaluation and management in integrated navigation based on observability analysis. First, the general observability theory of linear systems was reviewed, and consequently a definition of local observability and local observability matrix were further introduced. Second, a scalar form of the degree of observability was present from the point of view of estimation quality. Third, the application of the degree of observability to integrated navigation systems was illustrated. As expected, the simulation results showed that the degree of observability can help us to gain the information about how observable a state-variable is, and can further function as an indicator to evaluate the performance of each navigation sensor and autonomously manage sensors in integrated navigation systems. © 2019 IEEE.

Parameter Estimation of Nonlinearly Parameterized Regressions: Application to System Identification and Adaptive control

We propose a solution to the problem of parameter estimation of nonlinearly parameterized regressions—continuous or discrete time—and apply it for system identification and adaptive control. We restrict our attention to parameterizations that can be factorized as the product of two functions, a measurable one and a nonlinear function of the parameters to be estimated. Another feature of the proposed estimator is that parameter convergence is ensured without a persistency of excitation assumption. It is assumed that, after a coordinate change, some of the elements of the transformed function satisfy a monotonicity condition. The proposed estimators are applied to design identifiers and adaptive controllers for nonlinearly parameterized systems, which are traditionally tackled using overparameterization and assuming persistency of excitation.
