The rapid development of blockchain technology has led to many innovations, with the widespread use of smart contracts being particularly notable. However, this trend has spawned diverse blockchain scams, including the Ponzi scheme, which takes the form of Ponzi contracts. Due to blockchain users' misunderstanding of blockchain transparency, this scam can often result in significant financial losses. To complicate matters further, the vast majority of smart contracts deployed on blockchain networks are not open source, and users can only see the contract's bytecode. This situation makes Ponzi contracts even more challenging to identify, making it difficult for users to judge the security and legitimacy of a contract beforehand, thus increasing the risk of being defrauded. Most existing work uses only bytecode for detection and cannot fully utilize the corresponding source code information. In this paper, we propose a novel bimodal learning-fusion framework for enhancing Ponzi contract detection only in the presence of bytecode. Firstly, we employ the semantic-aware neural network to extract semantic feature from source code and bytecode. Then, we propose a modal transformation strategy to learn the relationship between source code and bytecode. Finally, a modal attention mechanism is introduced to construct a fusion representation to detect the contract even in the absence of source code modality. Experimental results show that the method performs better than existing methods that use machine learning for detection of Ponzi contracts. © 2024 IEEE.

Transferability of adversarial examples is of critical importance to launch black-box adversarial attacks, where attackers are only allowed to access the output of the target model. However, under such a challenging but practical setting, the crafted adversarial examples are always prone to overfitting to the proxy model employed, presenting poor transferability. In this paper, we suggest alleviating the overfitting issue from a novel perspective, i.e., designing a fitted model architecture. Specifically, delving the bottom of the cause of poor transferability, we arguably decompose and reconstruct the existing model architecture into an effective model architecture, namely multi-track model architecture (MMA). The adversarial examples crafted on the MMA can maximumly relieve the effect of model-specified features to it and toward the vulnerable directions adopted by diverse architectures. Extensive experimental evaluation demonstrates that the transferability of adversarial examples based on the MMA significantly surpass other state-of-the-art model architectures by up to 40% with comparable overhead. © 2023 IEEE.

With the rapid advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT), its applications are becoming increasingly essential in actual application. Specifically, the recent surge in electric vehicles has spurred significant advancements in vehicle ad hoc networks (VANET). Therefore, efficient data transmission is a critical challenge in IoT, especially VANET. The certificateless signcryption (CLS) scheme has high authentication efficiency, which has become increasingly important in IoT. However, most existing schemes rely on bilinear pairing, resulting in high calculation costs or failure to achieve their claimed security. Furthermore, the security of some CLS schemes is proved in the random oracle, which limits the usefulness of the CLS scheme. To further address these issues, we propose an efficient and secure CLS scheme in the standard model for VANET, which enhances its practical applicability in VANET. Our construction employs formal security proofs and cost simulations to ensure the scheme's security and low calculation costs, making it suitable for VANET. Finally, the security and efficiency analyses prove that our scheme offers enhanced security features and superior performance compared to existing schemes. © 2014 IEEE.

Cancers have emerged as a significant concern due to their impact on public health and society. The examination and interpretation of tissue sections stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) play a crucial role in disease assessment, particularly in cases like gastric cancer. Microsatellite instability (MSI) is suggested to contribute to the carcinogenesis of specific gastrointestinal tumors. However, due to the nonspecific morphology observed in H&E-stained tissue sections, MSI determination often requires costly evaluations through various molecular studies and immunohistochemistry methods in specialized molecular pathology laboratories. Despite the high cost, international guidelines recommend MSI testing for gastrointestinal cancers. Thus, there is a pressing need for a new diagnostic modality with lower costs and widespread applicability for MSI detection. This study aims to detect MSI directly from H&E histology slides in gastric cancer, providing a cost-effective alternative. The performance of well-known deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) and a proposed architecture are compared. Medical image datasets are typically smaller than benchmark datasets like ImageNet, necessitating the use of off-the-shelf DCNN architectures developed for large datasets through techniques such as transfer learning. Designing an architecture proportional to a custom dataset can be tedious and may not yield desirable results. In this work, we propose an automatic method to extract a lightweight and efficient architecture from a given heavy architecture (e.g., well-known off-the-shelf DCNNs) proportional to a specific dataset. To predict MSI instability, we extracted the MicroNet architecture from the Xception network using the proposed method and compared its performance with other well-known architectures. Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death worldwide, so accurate early detection is needed. Endoscopic imaging technology plays a vital role in diagnosis, but the presence of outliers in endoscopic images can significantly affect the accuracy of the classification model. This study addresses this challenge by applying Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) for feature extraction and K-means Clustering for outlier detection and removal. A dataset of colon endoscopic images was obtained from the public database Gastrovision, which was divided into two classes: normal and abnormal conditions. This study applied a two-step modeling process, first with the original dataset and then with the cleaned dataset after outlier removal. The results showcased a significant improvement in model performance after outlier handling, with accuracy increasing from 61% to 85%. The Area Under Curve (AUC) of the ROC curve also increased from 0.84 to 0.92, indicating a better model ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal conditions. These findings emphasize the importance of data quality and effective outlier management in training a machine-learning model for colon cancer endoscopic image conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

Public institutions have begun to use AI systems in areas that directly impact people’s lives, including labor, law, health, and migration. Explainability ensures that these systems are understandable to the involved stakeholders, while its emerging counterpart contestability enables them to challenge AI decisions. Both principles support the responsible use of AI systems, but their implementation needs to take into account the needs of people without technical background, AI novices. I conduct interviews and workshops to explore how explainable AI can be made suitable for AI novices, how explanations can support their agency by allowing them to contest decisions, and how this intersection is conceptualized. My research aims to inform policy and public institutions on how to implement responsible AI by designing for explainability and contestability. The Remote Doctoral Consortium would allow me to discuss with peers how these principles can be realized and account for human factors in their design. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

A Provably Secure Certificateless Signature Scheme With Anonymity for Healthcare IIoT

The industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is changing our way of life and work. As the number of mobile devices connected to IIoT increases, users will face many security challenges such as insecure communication environments. The certificateless signature (CLS) scheme can ensure the integrity and validity of data and provide secure identity authentication for the IIoT, and several pairing-free CLS schemes have been proposed in recent years. However, we find they are vulnerable to the signature forgery attack of malicious key generation centers by safety analysis, which does not realize the security they have claimed. To solve this problem, we show an improved CLS scheme that achieves anonymity and formally proves its security under the hardness of the discrete logarithm problem in the random oracle. Comprehensive performance analysis and comparison show that our scheme has less communication and computation costs with higher security, and our construction is suitable for scenarios with limited resources. Finally, we apply this scheme to construct a mutual identity authentication protocol in the healthcare IIoT environment. 2014 IEEE.

Poverty is considered a serious global issue that must be immediately eradicated by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, namely ending poverty anywhere and in any form. As a developing country, poverty is a complex issue faced by Indonesia. Tackling poverty in Indonesia has become a key focus of the government’s strategic priorities. This issue of poverty is experienced by all provinces in Indonesia, including Central Java. The poverty rate in Central Java stands at 10.77% or 3.79 million people. The causes of poverty are explained by several factors. Using these various factors, a mapping model can be conducted to determine the number of poor populations in Central Java. This research employs Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) and Mixed Geographically Weighted Regression (MGWR) approaches to compare the effectiveness of these models in analyzing the number of poor populations in Central Java in 2023. The kernel function weighting used in this study is Fixed Gaussian. The results showed that the MGWR model outperformed both the OLS regression and GWR models, achieving an Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) of 62.766, an R2 of 82.3%, and a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.177. Consequently, it can be inferred that the MGWR model was more suitable for explaining the poverty levels in Central Java. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). All Rights Reserved.

handwritten digit recognition is a crucial task in various fields such as postal mail sorting, bank check processing, and digitizing handwritten documents. This research aims to compare the effectiveness of using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for feature extraction combined with Support Vector Machine (SVM) for classification, against the traditional method of using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) for feature extraction. Additionally, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is applied to optimize SVM parameters to further enhance model performance. The experiments are conducted on two datasets: The MNIST dataset and an individual handwriting dataset from 50 participants. The results indicate that the proposed method of using CNN for feature extraction and PSO-optimized SVM achieves superior accuracy compared to traditional DWT and DCT methods. Specifically, the proposed method achieved an accuracy of 99.05% on the MNIST dataset and 67.79% on the individual handwriting dataset, demonstrating its robustness and effectiveness in handwritten digit recognition. © 2024 IEEE.

Enhancing the blockchain interoperability through federated learning with directed acyclic graph

The use of federated learning to achieve blockchain interoperability has become a hot topic in research, because it enables data exchange without revealing any private information. However, the previous work, such as ScaleSFL (Asia-CCS, 2022), that has implemented federated learning for blockchain interoperability, the throughput of the framework still cannot support the practical applications. Therefore, a federated learning framework based on Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) is proposed which utilizes sharding mechanism to enhance the blockchain interoperability. By constructing a weighted context graph based on data correlation, reasonable sharding of the dataset is achieved, thereby improving the efficiency of blockchain interoperability. The experimental results show that the federated framework reduces global computation in federated learning by 30% compared with other schemes, while increasing blockchain throughput by nearly 40%. © 2023 The Authors.
