Modern organizations face rising levels of cyber risks, making cybersecurity a top priority for safeguarding sensitive data and maintaining operational continuity. Recent studies find human factors as the most critical contributors to cyber risks. These human-related risks include user misuse, user mistakes, and user malice. A large proportion of cyber risks arise when hackers use social engineering or phishing techniques to manipulate employees into disclosing confidential information. While some employees knowingly engage in these actions, some incidents occur accidentally due to a lack of awareness about cybersecurity protocols. As a result, governments around the world are enacting data protection legislation aimed at enhancing employees' cyber risk. This study explores the perception of US employees on the effectiveness of data protection legislation in countering cyber threats. It surveyed 30 randomly selected employees from various industries. The results showed that employees perceive data protection legislation as effective in mitigating employeerelated cyber risks. © 2024 IEEE.

Image inpainting, which aims to reconstruct reasonably clear and realistic images from known pixel information, is one of the core problems in computer vision. However, due to the complexity and variability of the underwater environment, the inability to extract valid pixel points and insufficient correlation between feature information in existing image inpainting techniques lead to blurring in the generated images. Therefore, a novel gated attention feature fusion image inpainting network based on generative adversarial networks (GAF-GAN) is proposed. The accuracy of feature similarity matching depends heavily on the validity of the information contained in the features. On the one hand, gating values are dynamically generated by gated convolution to reduce the interference of invalid information. On the other hand, semantic information at distant locations in an image is accurately acquired by the attention mechanism. For these reasons, we designed an improved gated attention mechanism. Gated attention mechanism make the network focus on effective information such as high-frequency texture and color fidelity of restored images. In addition, the dense feature fusion module is added to expand the overall receptive field of the network to fully learn the image features. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively repair defective images with complex texture structures and improve the reality and integrity of image details and structures. © 2023 IEEE.

Fine-tuning a pre-trained model is a type of transfer learning: a pre-trained model that works on a large dataset is transferred onto a particular task or a smaller dataset, such as a hyperspectral image. The efficacy of such a technique is most visible in hyperspectral imaging since the data is usually too high-dimensional with a very scarce number of available annotated datasets. By using the pre-trained model, fine-tuning enables spatial and spectral features to be captured with lower computational overheads than fully training models. Domain adaptation approaches, including feature alignment and adversarial training, are also adapted to overcome limitations caused by the domain shift phenomenon due to the variability of the sensor, environmental changes, and temporal changes. Hyperspectral imaging is applied in diverse fields, including agriculture, environmental monitoring, mineral exploration, defense, medical diagnostics, and food quality assessment. Such applications are unique in the sense that HSI can integrate spatial and spectral information to achieve detailed material analysis. Advanced learning techniques will enhance the effectiveness of HSI models in real-world scenarios.

Integrating mobile intelligence with quantum-inspired machine learning (QiML) opens space for challenging mobile signal processing tasks. By utilizing superposition and entanglement, quantum computing principles, QiML boosts the agility of mobile devices by allowing real-time data processing, pattern recognition, and decision making. This work introduces Quantum-Inspired Mobile Intelligence (QiMINT) a new mobile computing framework that integrates quantum-inspired designs with classical machine learning, which increases mobile devices' accuracy, latency, and energy efficiency. Results show that medical QiML based models exceeded traditional machine learning methods in most key performance indicators. The quantum convolutional neural network (QCNN) achieved an accuracy of 92.3% in contrast with the CNNs' 87.5%, but with a processing time of 80 ms as to 120 ms, energy consumption of 10 mJ in comparison to the CNNs' 15mJ. Also, quantum-inspired random forests lowered processing delay by 40%, sustaining superior accuracy than the classical-base system. These results demonstrate that QiML can effectively balance computation complexity while making it suitable for edge computing, IoT, and mobile intelligence systems.

In this paper, we propose a novel Multi-granular Temporal Cascade Learning framework (MTC-Net), which effectively combines coarse-grained and fine-grained detection capabilities. By leveraging visual features extracted from CLIP and integrating visual-language associations, MTC-Net addresses the limitations of existing methods and achieves outstanding performance across multiple benchmark datasets. Furthermore, we incorporate multiscale temporal feature fusion and an improved attention mechanism into the framework, and introduce a feature consistency-based auxiliary loss to enhance the model's focus on anomalous patterns and generalization ability. Extensive experiments on the XD-Violence and UCF-Crime datasets demonstrate that MTC-Net outperforms both semi-supervised and classification-based weakly supervised methods across all evaluation metrics. For the coarse-grained Weakly Supervised Video Anomaly Detection (WSVAD) task, MTC-Net achieves an AP of 84.83% on XD-Violence and an AUC of 75.23% on UCF-Crime, significantly surpassing current state-of-the-art methods. In the more challenging fine-grained WSVAD task, MTC-Net achieves a 13.1% improvement in average precision over previous methods. These results validate the effectiveness of our approach, highlighting MTC-Net's potential to advance the field of video anomaly detection through the efficient use of weak supervision, multiscale temporal feature fusion, and multimodal feature integration.

Computing the product of the (binary) adjacency matrix of a large graph with a real-valued vector is an important operation that lies at the heart of various graph analysis tasks, such as computing PageRank. In this paper, we show that some well-known webgraph and social graph compression formats are computation-friendly, in the sense that they allow boosting the computation. We focus on the compressed representations of (a) Boldi and Vigna and (b) Hernández and Navarro, and show that the product computation can be conducted in time proportional to the compressed graph size. Our experimental results show speedups of at least 2 on graphs that were compressed at least 5 times with respect to the original. © 2022, The Author(s).

The realization that the energy consumption due to digital application will continue to rise significantly while climate change has persistently demand efficiency in the energy use, has triggered data centers to become more accountable in shouldering the task to operate sustainably. Green strategy for data centers, among others, should look at improving treatment of waste heat generated by their operation and cooling process. While intensive efforts are taking place in Scandinavian countries, many countries are yet to follow in their steps. A case study involving three urban data centres in Malaysia is conducted to gain insight on their potential in implementing waste heat recovery for utilization by relevant systems within their vicinity. It is found that the data centers have attained favourable in term of safety, security and reliability. However, there are a lot to be desired from the aspect of energy efficiency. A way forward suggests for further study to explore adoption and innovation of waste heat recycling models to improve the performance of Malaysian urban data centers in alignment to improve use and reuse of energy whilst making them more climate-neutral. © 2022 IEEE.

Consider the domain of multiclass classification within the adversarial online setting. What is the price of relying on bandit feedback as opposed to full information? To what extent can an adaptive adversary amplify the loss compared to an oblivious one? To what extent can a randomized learner reduce the loss compared to a deterministic one? We study these questions in the mistake bound model and provide nearly tight answers. We demonstrate that the optimal mistake bound under bandit feedback is at most O(k) times higher than the optimal mistake bound in the full information case, where k represents the number of labels. This bound is tight and provides an answer to an open question previously posed and studied by Daniely and Helbertal [’13] and by Long [’17,’20], who focused on deterministic learners. Moreover, we present nearly optimal bounds of Θ˜(k) on the gap between randomized and deterministic learners, as well as between adaptive and oblivious adversaries in the bandit feedback setting. This stands in contrast to the full information scenario, where adaptive and oblivious adversaries are equivalent, and the gap in mistake bounds between randomized and deterministic learners is a constant multiplicative factor of 2. In addition, our results imply that in some cases the optimal randomized mistake bound is approximately the square-root of its deterministic parallel. This paper describes a Plastic Waste Hotspot Detection System which has been developed in an international collaborative research project to realize an “Environmental AI-Human Actions integration” with marine plastic waste reduction actions. In this project, various local conditions are obtained to the system to realize an environmentally resilient society. The nature conservation activities such as marine plastic waste collection and reduction actions are implemented based on these conditions. In the process of integration of Environmental AI and Human Actions, the effects of these activities and activists' contribution to environmental improvement and global-scale knowledge are accumulated, shared, analyzed, and visualized through global-scale analysis. This paper describes the Plastic Waste Hotspot Detection system as one of the systems that integrate AI systems and human actions. This paper examines the feasibility and effectiveness of the system through the fieldwork tests in Phuket, Thailand and Surabaya, Indonesia.
