Knowledge Leaks in data-Driven Business Models? Exploring Different Types of Knowledge Risks and Protection Measures

data-driven business models imply the inter-organisational exchange of data or similar value objects. data science methods enable organisations to discover patterns and eventually knowledge from data. Further, by training machine learning models, knowledge is materialised in those models. Thus, organisations might risk the exposure of competitive knowledge by sharing data-related value objects, such as data, models or predictions. Although knowledge risks have been studied in traditional business models, little research has been conducted in the direction of data-driven business models. In this explorative qualitative study, we conducted 28 expert interviews in three rounds (two exploratory and one evaluatory) and identified five types of risks along the three basic types of value objects: data, models and predictions. These risks depend on the context, i.e., when competitive knowledge could be discovered from shared value objects. We found that those risks can be mitigated by technology, contractual regulations, trusted relationships, and adjusting the business model design. In this study, we show that the risk of knowledge leakage is a relevant risk factor in data-driven business models. Overall, knowledge risks should be considered already during business model design, and their management requires an interdisciplinary approach via a balanced assessment. The level of knowledge protection from a technology perspective highly depends on computer science innovations and thus is a moving target. As an outlook, we suggest that knowledge risk will become even more relevant with the extensive usage of machine learning and artificial intelligence in data-driven business models. © The Author(s) 2024.

Mental diseases, mental disorders, or psychological disorders is a large group of symptoms which causes changes to the state of mood and reflect this on the behavior of the person with the mental disorder. It affects the patient's way of thinking, which limits his ability to perform his simple daily needs, and thus, becomes a burden on the individual, and on the surrounding society as well. There are common types of mental disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. In this research, two main objectives are considered. The first objective is determining which is the best classifier for predicting a person's mental disorder among six well-known classifiers. The second objective is determining what is the best feature selection technique to use with mental disorders datasets considering six popular techniques, and with respect to several evaluation metrics. The results revealed that Logistic Regression and Naïve Bayes are the two best classification models, while Info Gain Ratio is the best feature selection method. © 2024 IEEE.

The Healthcare Accreditation Institute has an assessment and certification process for hospitals applying for Healthcare Accreditation. The assessment process requires a large number of text-based reports. The purpose of this research was to study the text analysis of the self-assessment reports of healthcare facilities and surveyor reports on issues related to the pharmaceutical system to evaluate and rate the accreditation of medical facilities. The natural language text vector analysis technique, together with the Universal Sentence Encoder (USE) was compared to Learning Lightweight Language-agnostic Sentence Embeddings (LEALLA) for encoding data into a high-dimensional format. Next the sentence encoding feature was fed through a machine learning procedure, including artificial neural networks, logistic regression, and support vector machines to classify nursing facility accreditation ratings. The experimental results showed that the USE embedding yielded better performance than the LEALLA embedding across all models with a precision of 0.70 but took slightly longer to encode feature sentences. This research could improve the performance of the analysis and scoring. © 2023 IEEE.

data augmentation effectively expands feature distribution in time series classification, enhancing downstream task performance. However, existing techniques often fail to maintain semantic consistency between augmented and original time series data, causing label noise and thereby degrading downstream task performance. We argue that data augmentation should preserve time series semantic consistency and expand the non-semantic information space. In this paper, we reformulate data augmentation as a semantic path planning problem between original data and augmented data, modeled as a Markov Decision Process (MDP). We propose a reinforcement learning-based algorithm (RL) named FreqSYN, where the action space is defined by a set of learnable Gaussian kernels that perturbs the frequency domain of the original data to generate augmented samples. The confidence coefficients of augmented data in semantically relevant classification tasks are used as a reward to iteratively refine the FreqSYN. Our method is validated across four datasets, achieving state-of-the-art performance, with a 2% improvement in F1 score over the SimPSI method. Heart disease (HD) stands as a major global health challenge, being a predominant cause of death and demanding intricate and costly detection methods. The widespread impact of heart failure, contributing to increased rates of morbidity and mortality, underscores the urgency for accurate and timely prediction and diagnosis. This is crucial for effective prevention, early detection, and treatment, thereby reducing the threat to individual health. However, the early and precise prediction of HD remains a significant challenge. The complexity of medical data poses a considerable challenge for healthcare professionals, who are required to interpret and utilize this information swiftly for effective intervention. Addressing this gap, our study introduces a novel Improved Explainable Learning-Based Technique (IELBT) for HD prediction. This technique harnesses a strategic combination of feature selection, Venn diagrams, data normalization methods, optimized parameters, and machine learning algorithms, specifically tailored for predicting HD. We evaluated the performance of our model using the Alizadeh Sani HD dataset, aiming to accurately detect the presence or absence of the condition. Our results demonstrate that the IELBT, employing a support vector machine with a robust scaling approach, optimal parameterization, and a data split ratio of 70:30, achieves an impressive accuracy rate of 96.00%. Beyond achieving high accuracy, the IELBT outperforms similar models in existing literature and provides significant interpretability and explanation, essential elements in the field of medical diagnosis. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

The proliferation of interconnected devices is driving a surge in the demand for wireless spectrum. Meeting the need for wireless channel access for every device, while also ensuring consistent quality of service (QoS), poses significant challenges. This is particularly true for resource-limited heterogeneous devices within Internet of Things (IoT) networks. Cognitive radio (CR) technology addresses the shortcomings of traditional fixed channel allocation policies by enabling unlicensed users to opportunistically access unused spectrum belonging to licensed users. This facilitates timely and reliable transmission of mission-critical data packets. A cognitive radio-enabled IoT (CR-IoT) network is poised to better accommodate the growing demands of diverse applications and services within the smart city framework, spanning areas such as healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, transportation, environment, public safety, and pharmaceuticals. To minimize switching delays and ensure energy and spectral efficiency, this study proposes a hybrid intelligent system for efficient channel allocation and packet transmission in CR-IoT networks. Leveraging Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), the system dynamically manages spectrum resources to minimize handoffs while upholding QoS. A Java-based simulation integrates system outputs with interference temperature data to accommodate service demands across 2G-4G spectrums. Evaluation reveals SVM's 98.8% accuracy in detecting spectrum holes and ANFIS's 90.4% accuracy in channel allocation. These results demonstrate significant potential for enhancing spectrum utilization in various IoT applications. © 2024-IOS Press. All rights reserved.

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) are a severe complication in diabetic patients, requiring accurate and early diagnosis to prevent further complications such as infection or amputation. To address this, Research employed YOLO and SSD models for automated DFU detection from medical images, comparing their performance based on key evaluation metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. Results demonstrate that both models perform exceptionally well, with SSD achieving an accuracy of 98.7%, surpassing YOLO's 97.5%. Additionally, SSD exhibited superior precision (99%), recall (98.9%), and F1-score (99.1%), indicating its robustness in detecting ulcerated regions of varying sizes and stages. These results were further contextualized through a comparison with previous studies, where SSD outperformed several CNN-based models, which achieved accuracy ranging from 93.7% to 97.0%. The SSD model's multi-scale object detection capabilities, combined with transfer learning and data augmentation techniques, contributed to its high performance. Overall, this study demonstrates the potential of deploying SSD and YOLO models in clinical settings for early and accurate DFU detection, paving the way for more reliable and timely interventions in diabetic care. The findings underline the significance of advanced object detection methods, offering promising avenues for improving patient outcomes in medical imaging © 2024 IEEE.

Safety of railway is the major problem worldwide. It has problems like cracks or any fault in the railway tracks. These problems can cause severe accidents if it is not detected regularly and early. In traditional fault finding and crack detecting method, the manual method is involved which is very slow and consist of many errors. By considering all these challenges and issues in track detection method, we have implemented an advanced IoT based railway crack and fault-finding system. It uses advanced sensors, microcontroller, GPS and GSM module which can detect and report faults of the railway track. The system uses real time mechanism. The system is implemented and tested on a prototype railway track to detect crack or any fault. The internet of things technology added modern and accurate fault-finding feature in the system. The IoT plays an important role in implementing advance technologies, as it uses sensors and advance microcontroller. The accuracy rate of fault and crack detection is around 97%, which is for 2 mm crack. Along with this GPS module accurately track fault location. GSM module successfully send the alert message quickly after detecting the fault in the track. Hence the response time is very less and accurate. This system is implemented in order to ensure safety for the railway track and prevent the accidents. Hence the system is useful for improving overall transport safety. © 2024 IEEE.
