Designing a skilled soccer team for RoboCup: exploring skill-set-primitives through reinforcement learning

The RoboCup 3D soccer simulation league serves as a competitive platform for showcasing innovation in autonomous humanoid robot agents through simulated soccer matches. Our team, FC Portugal, developed a new codebase from scratch in Python after RoboCup 2021. The team’s performance relies on a set of skills centered around novel unifying primitives and a custom, symmetry-extended version of the proximal policy optimization algorithm. Our methods have been thoroughly tested in official RoboCup matches, where FC Portugal has won the last two main competitions, in 2022 and 2023. This paper presents our training framework, as well as a timeline of skills developed using our skill-set-primitives, which considerably improve the sample efficiency and stability of skills, and motivate seamless transitions. We start with a significantly fast Sprint-Kick developed in 2021 and progress to the most recent skill set, including a multi-purpose omnidirectional walk, a dribble with unprecedented ball control, a solid kick, and a push skill. The push addresses low-level collision scenarios and high-level strategies to increase ball possession. We address the resource-intensive nature of this task through an innovative multi-agent learning approach. Finally, we release the team’s codebase to the RoboCup community, providing other teams with a robust and modern foundation upon which they can build new features. © The Author(s) 2025.

Children's physical, mental and emotional development depends heavily on sleep, with age-specific sleep needs fluctuating. Malnutrition may result from eating too little, absorbing nutrients poorly, being unwell, living in poverty or not knowing enough about nutrition. Food allergies and iron insufficiency are two examples of illnesses whose onsets might differ depending on environmental exposures and genetics. By providing proper diet, getting medical attention when necessary and encouraging healthy behaviors, parents play a crucial role in supporting their children's health. For children to grow and develop properly, they need meals high in fruits, vegetables, milk, protein, calcium, iron and fiber. Key advantages of a balanced diet include aiding bone formation, improving heart health and encouraging regular bowel motions and digestion. In general, children's general health and wellness depend on caregivers being aware of their dietary requirements and giving them the proper attention. The findings of the research imply that machine learning algorithms may be useful in understanding and predicting the prevalence of malnutrition in children. Furthermore, these algorithms could provide perceptive data that might help politicians create effective policies. In this research, we make use of five different machine learning algorithms. With a decision tree, the accuracy is 0.92%, followed by svm which provides 0.91%, KNN, which provides 0.84%, GBM classifier, which provides 0.79% and random forest, which provides 0.65%. © 2025 IEEE.

Defending Against Adversarial Examples Via Modeling Adversarial Noise

Adversarial examples have become a major threat to the reliable application of deep learning models. Meanwhile, this issue promotes the development of adversarial defenses. Adversarial noise contains well-generalizing and misleading features, which can manipulate predicted labels to be flipped maliciously. Motivated by this, we study modeling adversarial noise for defending against adversarial examples by learning the transition relationship between adversarial labels (i.e., flipped labels caused by adversarial noise) and natural labels (i.e., real labels of natural samples). In this work, we propose an adversarial defense method from the perspective of modeling adversarial noise. Specifically, we construct an instance-dependent label transition matrix to represent the label transition relationship for explicitly modeling adversarial noise. The label transition matrix is obtained from the input sample by leveraging a label transition network. By exploiting the label transition matrix, we can infer the natural label from the adversarial label and thus correct wrong predictions misled by adversarial noise. Additionally, to enhance the robustness of the label transition network, we design an adversarial robustness constraint at the transition matrix level. Experimental results demonstrate that our method effectively improves the robust accuracy against multiple attacks and exhibits great performance in detecting adversarial input samples. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Smart cities that use technology and data for efficiency optimization, sustainability, and well-being of citizens face a lot of challenges. Because all of the aforementioned challenges share a common characteristic of complexity, achieving success will need careful preparation and coordinated effort. This research presents a novel approach utilizing deep learning models to address issues about road congestion, specifically by offering secure routes for pedestrians and cyclists. The Global Positioning System (GPS) data stored in the cloud is used as input for the proposed work. In the proposed work, the flow of vehicles, their speed, and the occupancy have been predicted. The need for deep learning to resolve the traffic problem is that deep learning methods are highly efficient when compared to statistical techniques as they provide more than 90% of accuracy in forecasting. The novel approaches used in this paper are integrated Recurring Neural Networks (RNN)-Long Short Term Memory (LSTM)- Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to form RLC (RNN-LSTM-CNN) models. The system encompasses appropriate methods for improving the transportation system’s efficiency by mitigating environmental impacts. The implementation of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) along with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) are used to analyze historical traffic flow data by predicting future traffic conditions by optimizing traffic signal timings, traffic flow, and public transportation schedules to reduce idling time and fuel consumption, leading to lower emissions by predicting Electric Vehicle (EV) charging demand patterns, optimize charging stations’ locations and driver routes, and manage energy distribution more efficiently. The proposed Deep Learning-based models perform better when compared to the other methods and hold the potential to transform urban mobility, making it more efficient, safer, and environmentally friendly in the smart cities of the future as it provides higher forecasting accuracy

Cardiac arrhythmias pose a significant challenge to health care, requiring accurate and reliable detection methods to enable early diagnosis and treatment. However, traditional ECG beat classification methods often lack robustness and fail to generalize effectively to diverse clinical scenarios, particularly when using single-lead-I recordings, which are less studied compared to lead II. To address this gap, this paper proposes a novel method that combines deep learning and empirical mode decomposition (EMD) for arrhythmia detection using single-lead-I ECG recordings obtained with electrodes on each hand. The hybrid model comprises 149 layers of one-dimensional convolution, max pooling, and residual blocks. By leveraging EMD, it classifies ECG beats into normal beats, premature ventricular contractions, and atrial premature beats with high sensitivity (99.86%, 99.72%, and 99.84%, respectively) using the first four intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). The proposed method is applicable in clinical and out-of-hospital monitoring scenarios, and an accompanying web application provides real-time analysis and diagnostic results. This approach addresses a critical gap in lead-I ECG analysis, enhancing diagnostic precision and expanding the scope of ECG applications in health care. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

With the rapid development of deep learning in the field of computer vision, the performance of core vision tasks such as image recognition has achieved significant improvement. In nighttime environment, due to the low-light condition and reduced visibility, cross-domain transformation of nighttime images based on Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) model can effectively improve the accuracy of nighttime recognition models. However, the existing GAN models are difficult to be effectively deployed on resource-constrained devices due to the requirement of high storage space and computational resource. To this end, this paper proposes a shared attention network based on the attention mechanism with the CycleGAN structure, and designs an online knowledge distillation method to compress and optimize the model, so as to obtain a lightweight model to achieve the nighttime-daytime cross-domain image transformation. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves the state-of-the-art performance in the task of Nighttime-Daytime Image Transformation. The rapid surge of the electronic commerce (Ecomm) industry has ushered in intensified competition, with platforms vying for customer attention and loyalty. Many Ecomm sites have been employing various tactics to stand out, with Recommendation Systems (RS at the forefront of their strategies. However, traditional RS faces challenges, mainly when interactions occur at irregular intervals. This article introduces the DTW + LSTM framework, a methodology combining the merits of Long Short-Term Memory Networks and Dynamic Time Warping to improve this work. This method requires consideration of DTW's time series data alignment capabilities to account for interaction interval variability. The LSTM is then designed to accurately record the key elements of user interactions in sequential order. Combining the outcomes of these two methodologies in the DTW + LSTM model presents a more flexible and extensive approach to generating online shopping recommendations. The design guarantees that forecasts continue to be reliable and accurate despite the inherent temporal deviations that can be observed in user data. This paper investigates the context of this approach, its benefits, and prospective developments, demonstrating its possibilities in the dynamic Ecomm market. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

People are making daily purchases and sales through the internet, and most of them require them to use their credit cards. Besides making things easier for the customer, this heightens the probability of online credit card frauds. Credit card fraud detection has increased in several nations in the recent past due to the increased incidence of fraud that requires it to become even more of a security issue than before. In this paper, a new deep-learning-based approach for credit card fraud detection is proposed. It is based on the preprocessing stage, hybrid feature selection, and classification stage. In the first instance, the proposed method is used on the Credit Card Fraud Detection (CCF) data set. A prescreening step that uses Z-score Min-Max normalization is applied to ensure that the ranges of each data set are the same. The Crayfish Optimization Algorithm (COA) and the Emperor Penguin Optimizer (EPO) are integrated and used to identify the better attributes. Next, a similarity-navigated graph neural network (SNGNN) is utilized for classification so that the fraudulent transactions and the transactions that are not fraudulent can be differentiated easily. The overall system is also enhanced with Greylag Goose Optimization (GGO) that maximizes the chances of detection. The proposed method achieves a high accuracy in detecting fraudulent transactions, which means the proposed process has virtually limitless potential to speed up the entire process. Thus, high effectiveness is proved by the 99% accuracy rate of the suggested method. This exceptional outcome proves the robustness of the approach and its ability to adapt to various patterns of dependence and data changes. © 2025 IEEE.

Educational institutions face inherent uncertainties in student performance, stakeholder priorities, and data analysis. This paper explores how cloud computing, with its data storage, analytics, and collaboration tools, can address these uncertainties in educational administration. We propose a neutrosophic framework utilizing "truth," "falsity," and "indeterminacy" values to represent these complexities within educational data. Real-world case studies analyze how cloud computing can reduce uncertainties and improve decision-making. Our findings reveal that cloud computing offers significant potential for navigating the "fog" of educational administration, but its effectiveness is enhanced by considering the "indeterminacy" inherent in educational data through the neutrosophic framework. This research contributes a unique neutrosophic perspective to the use of cloud computing for improved and more informed decision-making in educational administration. © 2025, University of New Mexico.
