The use of communication satellites as a possible way of offering broadband island interconnectivity appears to be a very attractive option, as it will enable the provision of an all-digital, transparent service to a number of ATM islands spanning a wide area, accommodating efficiently a variety of traffic demands. The CATALYST Project (RACE II/R2074) is an attempt to demonstrate the applicability and compatibility of satellite technology with the terrestrial BISDN. In this paper we present an overview of the project and focus on an initial study of the expected user performance through the CATALYST network. Our analysis is based upon mathematical and simulation models and describes the end-system to end-system transfer delay for given message lengths. The protocol profiles assume a mix of Novell NetWare and network File System client/server architectures, which are supported by either the IEEE 802.3/Ethernet or fibre distributed data interface LANs, which are themselves linked via LAN/ATM/satellite interface units. Areas of further investigation, and the implication of our analysis on the actual network architecture, are discussed.

Attitudes toward the Equal Rights Amendment were not an important factor in the emergence of the “gender gap” in the 1980 presidential election. Conclusions to the contrary by news analysts, feminist political activists, and political scientists are based on a combination of the power of expectation, faulty analysis, and random bias in the most frequently used survey in political *** data analyzed herein were collected by the New York Times and CBS News and processed by the New York Times and CBS News under a grant from the Russell Sage Foundation; by Warren E. The advancement of mobile multimedia communications, 5G, and Internet of Things (IoT) has led to the widespread use of edge devices, including sensors, smartphones, and wearables. This has generated in a large amount of distributed data, leading to new prospects for deep learning. However, this data is confined within data silos and contains sensitive information, making it difficult to be processed in a centralized manner, particularly under stringent data privacy regulations. Federated learning (FL) offers a solution by enabling collaborative learning while ensuring privacy. Nonetheless, data and device heterogeneity complicate FL implementation. This research presents a specialized FL algorithm for heterogeneous edge computing. It integrates a lightweight grouping strategy for homogeneous devices, a scheduling algorithm within groups, and a Split Learning (SL) approach. These contributions enhance model accuracy and training speed, alleviate the burden on resource-constrained devices, and strengthen privacy. Experimental results demonstrate that the GSFL outperforms FedAvg and SplitFed by 6.53× and 1.18×. Under experimental conditions with \(\alpha=0.05\), representing a highly heterogeneous data distribution typical of extreme Non-IID scenarios, GSFL showed better accuracy compared to FedAvg by 10.64%, HACCS by 4.53%, and Cluster-HSFL by 1.16%. GSFL effectively balances privacy protection and computational efficiency for real-world applications in mobile multimedia communications.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of active anti-roll bar systems on heavy vehicles as one of the most effective solutions for improving the roll stability of these vehicles. Due to the characteristics of these vehicles with heavy loads and high center of gravity, the possibility of roll instability occurs frequently and causes serious consequences for human life, vehicles, and traffic infrastructure. The book gives readers an in-depth survey of the roll instability characteristics of heavy vehicles such as single-unit trucks with rigid and flexible frames, and tractor semi-trailers. It then introduces an active anti-roll bar system, the electro-hydraulic actuators which use control methods such as LQR optimal and H∞ robust controller design. This work introduces a new control method, which is a combination of robust control with the linear parameter varying system (H∞/LPV). The validation of the new hybrid method is carried out using the nonlinear truck model from the TruckSim® software to assess the roll stability of heavy vehicles in order to limit the rollover accident. A number of examples are provided to illustrate the research results, which helps the readers have a practical and easy approach that can be applied to other active anti-roll bar systems for most forms of transport vehicles in general. This book caters to academics and practitioners who are interested in active anti-roll bar systems for the typical heavy vehicle available worldwide.
