To address the key challenge encountered in fake news detection, i.e., multimodal data is difficult to be effectively semantically represented due to its intrinsic heterogeneity, this paper proposes a multimodal knowledge representation method for fake news detection. First, visual feature extraction is performed for fake news image data, the relevant images are sliced into multiple blocks, and then visual modal features are obtained by linear projection layer mapping. This simplifies the feature extraction process and reduces the computational cost, which helps to improve the fake news recognition performance. Second, to meet the actual fake news detection needs, a long text representation method based on topic words is investigated for the text data in fake news. Finally, the multimodal representation of the same fake news data is optimized by establishing a connection between two different modalities, visual and text, and inputting it into a BiLSTM-Attention based network to achieve the fusion of multimodal features. The experiment selects the same fake news data of EANN model and uses four classical classification methods to verify the effect of knowledge representation and compare it with the fusion model ViLT which is not optimized for long text. The experiment proves that the accuracy rate of fake news detection using the multimodal representation proposed in this paper is improved by 7.4% compared to the EANN model, and by 9.3% compared to the ViLT representation.

Large 3D electron microscopy images require labor-intensive segmentation for further quantitative analysis. Recent deep learning segmentation methods automate this computer vision task, but require large amounts of labeled training data. We present BioSegment, a turnkey platform for experts to automatically process their imaging data and fine-tune segmentation models. It provides a user-friendly annotation experience, integration with familiar microscopy annotation software and a job queue for remote GPU acceleration. Various active learning sampling strategies are incorporated, with maximum entropy selection being the default. For mitochondrial segmentation, these strategies can improve segmentation quality by 10 to 15% in terms of intersection-over-union score compared to random sampling. Additionally, a segmentation of similar quality can be achieved using 25% of the total annotation budget required for random sampling. By comparing the state-of-the-art in human-in-the-loop annotation frameworks, we show that BioSegment is currently the only framework capable of employing deep learning and active learning for 3D electron microscopy data. © 2022 for this paper by its authors.

In the realm of e-commerce customer support, the adoption of chatbots is on the rise, driven by a quest for heightened user interactions. This study introduces an inventive approach harnessing the advanced capabilities of GPT-4 to construct chatbot interfaces that are both context-aware and personalized. The main aim of this work is to revolutionize ecommerce customer support by developing intelligent and adaptable chatbot interfaces that are context-aware, personalized, and significantly enhance user experiences. Existing chatbot models struggle with context retention and personalization, limiting effectiveness in dynamic e-commerce environments despite the promise of automation. This innovative approach leverages GPT-4's robust language processing, integrating it with user profiling systems for personalized responses grounded in user preferences and historical interactions. The method gives, diverse e-commerce dataset undergoes collection and pre-processing, followed by fine-tuning GPT-4 with an emphasis on context-awareness and personalized responses. The model is seamlessly integrated with e-commerce backend systems for real-time information, multimodal input support caters to varied user preferences. Results exhibit a significant 95% accuracy improvement, affirming the chatbot's enhanced ability to comprehend user queries. By integrating personalization and advanced context retention, this study enhances user engagement, paving way for revolutionary intelligent and adaptable chatbot interfaces in ecommerce customer support. © 2024 IEEE.

The aim of text-based person retrieval is to identify pedestrians using natural language descriptions within a large-scale image gallery. Traditional methods rely heavily on manually annotated image-text pairs, which are resource-intensive to obtain. With the emergence of Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs), the advanced capabilities of contemporary models in image understanding have led to the generation of highly accurate captions. Therefore, this paper explores the potential of employing Large Vision-Language Models for unsupervised text-based pedestrian image retrieval and proposes a Multi-grained Uncertainty Modeling and Alignment framework (MUMA). Initially, multiple Large Vision-Language Models are employed to generate diverse and hierarchically structured pedestrian descriptions across different styles and granularities. However, the generated captions inevitably introduce noise. To address this issue, an uncertainty-guided sample filtration module is proposed to estimate and filter out unreliable image-text pairs. Additionally, to simulate the diversity of styles and granularities in captions, a multi-grained uncertainty modeling approach is applied to model the distributions of captions, with each caption represented as a multivariate Gaussian distribution. Finally, a multi-level consistency distillation loss is employed to integrate and align the multi-grained captions, aiming to transfer knowledge across different granularities. Experimental evaluations conducted on three widely-used datasets demonstrate the significant advancements achieved by our approach. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Private Language Models via Truncated Laplacian Mechanism

Deep learning models for NLP tasks are prone to variants of privacy attacks. To prevent privacy leakage, researchers have investigated word-level perturbations, relying on the formal guarantees of differential privacy (DP) in the embedding space. However, many existing approaches either achieve unsatisfactory performance in the high privacy regime when using the Laplacian or Gaussian mechanism, or resort to weaker relaxations of DP that are inferior to the canonical DP in terms of privacy strength. This raises the question of whether a new method for private word embedding can be designed to overcome these limitations. In this paper, we propose a novel private embedding method called the high dimensional truncated Laplacian mechanism. Specifically, we introduce a non-trivial extension of the truncated Laplacian mechanism, which was previously only investigated in one-dimensional space cases. Theoretically, we show that our method has a lower variance compared to the previous private word embedding methods. To further validate its effectiveness, we conduct comprehensive experiments on private embedding and downstream tasks using three datasets. Remarkably, even in the high privacy regime, our approach only incurs a slight decrease in utility compared to the non-private scenario. © 2024, CC BY.

Graph-based or multidimensional blockchains have been proposed to improve the scalability and efficiency of existing blockchain applications. However, when implemented in mobile Internet of Things (mIoT) networks, these blockchain systems can frequently split and merge and cause the merging algorithm to process a large number of similar blocks (a block is similar or identical when it exists once in multiple blockchains). The presence of similar blocks hinders the merging process, as it consumes time and computational resources to scan, validate, and potentially merge similar blocks. This paper presents an efficient approach for merging graph-based or multidimensional blockchains in mIoT networks by avoiding similar blocks and effectively detecting and merging new blocks that were created after the split. Our proposed merging algorithm employs depth-first search and Merkle tree techniques to minimize the time and computational resources spent on identical blocks. Finally, we evaluate the performance of our method in highly mobile networks and demonstrate that it can execute the merge with a more than 72% reduction in time in comparison to merging algorithms without block similarity handling. © 2023 IEEE.

The most critical task in personalized news recommendation is to perform exact matching between candidate news and users’ interests. Existing news recommendation methods usually model users’ interests from historical clicked news items without considering candidate news, which makes it difficult to precisely match candidate news with users’ interests. Moreover, it is challenging to distinguish similar news when forming a vector representation. Simply adding candidate news to the user interest modeling process without considering word-level information does not provide sufficient discrimination for recommending appropriate news. In this paper, we propose a news recommendation model with candidate-aware fine-grained interaction information (CAFI). In our approach, we propose a fine-grained interaction module that matches candidate news items and text fragments of each historical news item at each semantic granularity to achieve interaction between the two at the word level and help similar historical news form more specific and accurate representations. In addition, our proposed gated self-attention mechanism utilizes the candidate news features as channel moderation gates to implement the process of filtering out information that is irrelevant to the candidate news for learning user interest representations, thereby better matching the candidate news to specific user interests. Experiments conducted on the large real-world Microsoft News dataset (MIND) show that our model significantly outperforms the previously developed models in terms of all metrics. Emotion recognition in conversation (ERC) is a prominent research topic in natural language processing, widely applicable in various scenarios. However, accessing external commonsense knowledge and related dialogue topics, along with the complexity of fusing utterances, presents significant challenges. In this paper, we introduce a Topic-based Multilayer Knowledge Filtering (TMKF) model to enhance dialog emotion recognition accuracy. TMKF acquires commonsense knowledge for each utterance and employs two Variational Autoencoder (VAE) modules to extract global and speaker-level dialogue topics. We utilize Global Knowledge Filtering (GKF) and Local Knowledge Filtering (LKF) to obtain topic-specific knowledge representations after filtering commonsense information through global and local topic hierarchies. Subsequently, we leverage relational graphs to convolve commonsense knowledge with utterances, resulting in knowledge-constrained utterance representations for classification. Our proposed model is evaluated through extensive experiments on four widely used benchmark datasets for conversational emotion recognition. The results underscore the effectiveness of TMKF, which significantly outperforms other methods in standard metric evaluations.

Perceptual hashing has proven its robustness in securing biometric templates, where several methods have been proposed in order to have a robust and discriminating hash code against acceptable attacks. This paper proposes a robust perceptual hashing scheme for biometric template protection that based on SIFT and Harris functions for the feature ex-traction/selection phase and on DWT and SVD functions for the hash code generation phase. The experimental results in this paper discussed the effect of distance value and image blocks size parameters on hash performances (robustness and discrimination), which are used in the feature selection phase and the hash generation phase of our method respectively. The results show that we have could to choose the optimal parameters values in the generation of our hash code to give a best tradeoff between discrimination and robustness against acceptable image manipulations. © 2022 IEEE.
