Determining Variables Associated with Annual Oil Palm Yield: An Explainable Gradient Boosting Approach

With the growing demands for Precision Agriculture (PA) in Indonesia, researchers have evaluated the utilization of Machine Learning for predicting oil palm yields and determining variables affecting them. Previous studies showed that meteorological variables, including rainfalls and wind speed, are associated with oil palm yields. In this research, the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) model and the Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) were deployed for analyzing the importance of 15 agrometeorological variables in predicting oil palm yield. The best model attained 1.911 RMSE and 0.855 R2. By analyzing the weights and gains of the XGBoost model along with the SHAP values, it was found that the yield in the previous year, the age and number of plants, the area of peat lands, and meteorological parameters such as rainfall rates and the number of rainy days in the previous three years were considered important. The previous year's yield in particular possesses the greatest weight and gain values according to the model, and the highest SHAP value among all input variables. However, the meteorological data used in this research are only limited to rainfall rates and the number of rainy days. In the future, more diverse variables can be analyzed.

Speech emotion recognition(SER)is an important research problem in human-computer interaction *** representation and extraction of features are significant challenges in SER *** the promising results of recent studies,they generally do not leverage progressive fusion techniques for effective feature representation and increasing receptive *** mitigate this problem,this article proposes DeepCNN,which is a fusion of spectral and temporal features of emotional speech by parallelising convolutional neural networks(CNNs)and a convolution layer-based *** parallel CNNs are applied to extract the spectral features(2D-CNN)and temporal features(1D-CNN)representations.A 2D-convolution layer-based transformer module extracts spectro-temporal features and concatenates them with features from parallel *** learnt low-level concatenated features are then applied to a deep framework of convolutional blocks,which retrieves high-level feature representation and subsequently categorises the emotional states using an attention gated recurrent unit and classification *** fusion technique results in a deeper hierarchical feature representation at a lower computational cost while simultaneously expanding the filter depth and reducing the feature *** Berlin database of Emotional Speech(EMO-BD)and Interactive Emotional Dyadic Motion Capture(IEMOCAP)datasets are used in experiments to recognise distinct speech *** efficient spectral and temporal feature representation,the proposed SER model achieves 94.2%accuracy for different emotions on the EMO-BD and 81.1%accuracy on the IEMOCAP dataset *** proposed SER system,DeepCNN,outperforms the baseline SER systems in terms of emotion recognition accuracy on the EMO-BD and IEMOCAP datasets.

Advanced identity mechanisms are essential for secure client-identifiable proof in the unambiguously computerized world. Because the board frameworks rely on aggregated databases, fraud, data breaches, and unauthorized access are significant security risks. By providing a decentralized, immutable structure, blockchain technology advances security and protection. Through Self-Sovereign Identity, blockchain gives people authority over their own data. While also improving confirmation and check mechanisms. The potential of blockchain-based Identity, this article examines the board frameworks, focusing on five essential components: authentication, privacy, trust, integrity, and simplicity. It examines how interoperability, flexibility, and collaboration with outdated frameworks prevent decentralized IDMS being more widely used. The study also covers customer satisfaction, legal concerns, and potential future developments, such as Web 3.0, security enhancements, and integration with decentralized money. By addressing these problems and looking into new possibilities, blockchain-based IDMS may be able to reform advanced identity across the entire board.

The article presents the concept of a hybrid network topology in the enterprises with the use of a solar power plant and energy storage as well as a drive frequency converter for charging of transportation battery of wheels vehicles and powering of electric caterpillar mining machines. Two important functionalities of the drive frequency converter as a unidirectional EV battery charger and for powering electric motors are presented. The obtained results of the simulation and experimental tests of the presented model confirm the possibility of controlling the DC current value of connected to drive frequency converter of the diode rectifier unit charging the EV battery. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper evaluates the prediction of heart attacks with a fuzzy rule-based system (FRBS). Since heart disease is the world's leading cause of death, precise prediction models are crucial for prevention and early intervention. With its reputation for managing imprecise and ambiguous data, fuzzy logic presents a viable method for raising prediction accuracy in medical diagnostics. In order to capture the complexity and unpredictability of cardiovascular risk variables, fuzzy rules are used in this work to investigate the creation and assessment of a fuzzy rule-based system (FRBS) for heart attack prediction. The efficacy and dependability of the FRBS in identifying those at high risk of heart attack are shown via testing and comparison with conventional prediction models. The results highlight fuzzy logic's potential to improve cardiovascular predictive analytics.

The increasing population and water demand in North Africa, particularly in semi-arid and arid regions like Morocco, necessitate efficient water resource management. Morocco experiences significant water scarcity due to persistent droughts and rising agricultural water demand. Accurate estimation of crop water requirements, particularly crop evapotranspiration, influenced by climatic and crop-specific conditions, is vital for improving water use efficiency. This study focuses on wheat, a staple crop in Morocco's Draa-tafilalet region, encompassing Ouarzazate, Zagora, and Tinghir. Traditional methods for estimating the crop coefficient require comprehensive climatic datasets, often unavailable. Therefore, this study aims to develop and validate artificial neural network models to predict monthly Kc values for wheat using limited climatic data. The results showed that the optimal model for predicting crop coefficients used a minimum and maximum temperatures, along with solar radiation, applying different configurations of hidden neuron layers for each region: (7, 5) for Ouarzazate, (8, 6) for Zagora, and (9, 6) for Tinghir. The best model's accuracy was close to 1, showing a statistically significant accordance between observed and predicted values. This study highlights the model's high accuracy and recommends its use for predicting crop coefficients values with limited climatic factors. It also supports water users in developing and updating Kc databases for each region based on climatic conditions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Most English foreign language (EFL) studies focus solely on human beings. This research explores how edge computing can facilitate learning for all things. The XoT (Xducation of Things) framework was proposed to educate both human and all things. All things encompass two terms: AI-Agent and smartthings (covering physical and digital smart objects). At the core of this framework is Smart Question Answer Forwarding Mechanism (SQA-Forwarding), specifically designed to assist all things in building knowledge. To demonstrate this, the smartXoT environment was developed based on XoT framework, and its impacts on EFL learners was assessed. A quasi-experimental study involving 26 EFL learners, divided into an experimental group (EG) and a control group (CG), examined the differences in learning achievement of smartthings and EFL learners when using the smartXoT environment with/without SQA-Forwarding. Findings, on one hand, indicated that smartthings in the EG developed knowledge bases greater than those in the CG. On the other hand, the interaction between EFL learners and smartthings with SQA-Forwarding significantly improved learners' writing skills, with revisions playing a crucial role in enhancing writing quality. Thus, the XoT framework offers a novel and promising approach to educating both humans and all things. © 2013 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly permeating all aspects of human life, involving a network of devices that share sensitive data. A notable application is the e-healthcare systems, which employ connected sensors, medical servers, and wearable devices. However, the public nature of communication in e-healthcare systems poses challenges such as security, privacy, and authentication of participating entities. Recently, many authentication protocols have been introduced to address these challenges. However, most of these protocols remain vulnerable to various security attacks, including device or medical server impersonation, denial of service, physical or cloning, and de-synchronization attacks. Therefore, we introduce an authenticated key-management protocol utilizing hash functions and Cipher-Block Chaining-Advanced Encryption Standard encryption (CBC-AES) encryption. The proposed protocol also employs the Physical Unclonable Function (PUF), which makes it more robust and efficient in resisting physical or cloning attacks. Additionally, the proposed scheme resists various security threats, including impersonation, session key leakage, ephemeral secret leakage, and de-synchronization attacks. We analyze the scheme’s security and reliability through formal and informal analysis. The informal analysis demonstrates that the scheme encompasses crucial security features, while the formal analysis substantiates. Moreover, performance analysis of the proposed protocol with various competing results indicates that our protocol achieves an average reduction in communication and computation overheads by 36.03.% and 41.79%, respectively. © 2014 IEEE.

Intensity inhomogeneity is a significant issue in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), where the presence of bias field causes distortions in pixel values, resulting in inconsistent and erroneous intensities across the image. This artifact not only hampers accurate diagnosis by radiologists but also negatively impacts the performance of computer-aided diagnosis algorithms, particularly in tasks like segmentation. In our proposed approach, we use a hybrid technique called KIFCM, which integrates K-means and Fuzzy C-means to enhance brain tumor segmentation. K-means provides computational efficiency, while Fuzzy C-means improves accuracy by detecting missed tumor cells. We employ a bias correction method based on the level set framework, removing noise with a median filter and applying the hybrid KIFCM technique for optimal segmentation. Our method effectively addresses intensity variation challenges, ensuring precise brain tumor region segmentation. We compare our results with DFCM and MFFLs, and the comparison shows the efficiency of our proposed method by highlighting the superior quality and accuracy of 81% achieved, requiring less computational time. Consequently, our results demonstrate KIFCM's potential to boost both accuracy and speed in MRI-based brain tumor detection through computer-aided diagnosis. © 2023 FRUCT Oy.
