We study the generalization capacity of group convolutional neural networks. We identify precise estimates for the VC dimensions of simple sets of group convolutional neural networks. In particular, we find that for infinite groups and appropriately chosen convolutional kernels, already two-parameter families of convolutional neural networks have an infinite VC dimension, despite being invariant to the action of an infinite group. © 2023, The Authors. Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE) enables users to delegate the keyword search over dynamically updated encrypted databases to an honest-but-curious server without losing keyword privacy. This paper studies a new and practical security risk to DSSE, namely, secret key compromise (e.g., a user’s secret key is leaked or stolen), which threatens all the security guarantees offered by existing DSSE schemes. To address this open problem, we introduce the notion of searchable encryption with key-update (SEKU) that provides users with the option of non-interactive key updates. We further define the notion of post-compromise secure with respect to leakage functions to study whether DSSE schemes can still provide data security after the client’s secret key is compromised. We demonstrate that post-compromise security is achievable with a proposed protocol called "Bamboo". Interestingly, the leakage functions of Bamboo satisfy the requirements for both forward and backward security. We conduct a performance evaluation of Bamboo using a real-world dataset and compare its runtime efficiency with the existing forward-and-backward secure DSSE schemes. researchers have carried out stock predictions in various ways. Stock is one type of investment that is quite attractive to investors. However, the risk of relatively large stock price fluctuations raises many questions among investors and researchers (academics) about how investors can predict stock prices in the future. There are two types of factors that affect stock price movements. There are external factors and internal factors. This study predicts stock prices using linear regression, SMO regression, and random forest algorithms. and compare the three models to find the most effective model in predicting stock prices. The results show that the most efective modeling in this study is using SMOReg which has the smallest error value among other models with a metric with an MAE number of 7.4758;MSE 157.0944;RMSE 12.5337;and MAPE 0.524. This means that the model is reliable enough to be used to predict future stock prices. However, SMOReg still has weaknesses in studying sequential data and causes overfitting. © 2021 IEEE.

The Global Navigation Satellite System network Reference Stations (GNSS-NRS) are pivotal in modern po-sitioning and navigation applications. However, GNSS-NRS face significant communication challenges, including instability during rapid user movement and inconsistent coverage by different operators, which often results in data transmission interruptions and delays. Moreover, the conventional Multipath Transmission Control Protocol (MPTCP) scheduling strategy does not accommodate the diversity of the data types managed by GNSS-NRS. This default approach treats all data uniformly, even under deteriorating network conditions. To overcome these limitations, this paper introduces a ‘Multiple Reception’ strategy based on MPTCP that ensures timely and reliable GNSS data transmission. This novel strategy differentiates between observational and control data based on their real-time criticality and applies tailored transmission techniques. Under adverse conditions, it utilizes multiple transmission paths and selectively receives control data, thus prioritizing the transfer of critical information. We conducted simulation experiments using MiniNet to compare the ‘Multiple Reception’ method against conventional and redundant strategies, demonstrating that it significantly reduces data loss rates in GNSS-NRS.

Deep learning (DL) methods – consisting of a class of deep neural networks (DNNs) trained by a stochastic gradient descent (SGD) optimization method – are nowadays key tools to solve data driven supervised learning problems. Despite the great success of SGD methods in the training of DNNs, it remains a fundamental open problem of research to explain the success and the limitations of such methods in rigorous theoretical terms. In particular, even in the standard setup of data driven supervised learning problems, it remained an open research problem to prove (or disprove) that SGD methods converge in the training of DNNs with the popular rectified linear unit (ReLU) activation function with high probability to global minimizers in the optimization landscape. In this work we answer this question negatively by proving that it does not hold that SGD methods converge with high probability to global minimizers of the objective function. Even stronger, in this work we prove for a large class of SGD methods that the considered optimizer does with high probability not converge to global minimizers of the optimization problem. It turns out that the probability to not converge to a global minimizer converges at least exponentially quickly to one as the width of the first hidden layer of the ANN (the number of neurons on the first hidden layer) and the depth of the ANN (the number of hidden layers), respectively, increase to infinity. The general non-convergence results of this work do not only apply to the plain vanilla standard SGD method but also to a large class of accelerated and adaptive SGD methods such as the momentum SGD, the Nesterov accelerated SGD, the Adagrad, the RMSProp, the Adam, the Adamax, the AMSGrad, and the Nadam optimizers. Federated learning (FL) is a distributed learning method that reduces data transmission and privacy risks. However, the existence of a central server may become a target of attackers, resulting in an increased risk of user privacy leakage. The emergence of Decentralized Federated Learning (DFL) is posited to enhance data privacy and system reliability by reducing reliance on central servers and enhancing local data control, especially in the medical field, where personal health data is protected. This research investigates the application of (DFL) in the medical domain, focusing on its limitations. This study employs a systematic literature review, adhering to PRISMA guidelines, to comprehensively understand DFL’s current landscape and challenges in healthcare. The key findings highlight four principal obstacles faced by DFL: security and privacy, communication efficiency, data and model heterogeneity, and incentive mechanisms. It also explores the potential for DFL to facilitate personalized healthcare treatments by large datasets distributed across various medical institutions. This research fills a significant void by systematically reviewing DFL technologies in healthcare. It provides insights into applications, challenges, and future directions for participants seeking secure and efficient healthcare data handling.

Owing to the easy deployment and mobile flexibility, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) assisted Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) has been deemed as one potential technology for handling the computation-intensive tasks at terminal devices (TDs). In this work, a MEC architecture assisted by UAVs is designed which achieves efficient offloading, computing, and downloading for tasks from multiple TDs via aerial to aerial collaboration of two UAVs. In this architecture, the task offloading process contains two parts, i.e., the offloading from TDs to a mobile UAV which flies around TDs, and the offloading from the mobile UAV to a hovering UAV which hovers in the air. The computing tasks from TDs will be divided into three parts allocated to the TDs themselves, and both two UAVs. Upon completion of computation, the computation results are downloaded to the TDs. The optimization objective is to seek for an optimal task division strategy to attain the weighted total energy consumption minimization for all devices. Since the formulated optimization problem is not convex, we develop a two-step iteration algorithm which jointly optimizes computing frequency, task allocation volume, as well as UAV's trajectory based on the method of block coordinate descent. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness and performance advantages of the designed algorithm.

In recent years, the Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have significantly advanced the field of storytelling applications. Visual storytelling involves the use of Generative AI models to transform a sequence of video frames into a semantics-preserving story-like text. A critical aspect of developing these models lies in the preparation of datasets, which directly impacts their efficacy and robustness. This paper explores a comprehensive methodology for dataset preparation tailored to the detection and description of car accidents in video surveillance footage. This research explains the necessity of data collection, annotation, and preprocessing to transform a sequence of frames in a video into a semantics-preserving story-like text. We describe the steps, tools and challenges of this task.

Sequential recommendation has been developed to predict the next item in which users are most interested by capturing user behavior patterns embedded in their historical interaction sequences. However, most existing methods appear to exhibit limitations in modeling fine-grained dependencies embedded in users’ various periodic behavior patterns and heterogeneous dependencies across multi-behaviors. Towards this end, we propose a Filter-enhanced Hypergraph Transformer framework for Multi-Behavior Sequential Recommendation (FHT-MB) to address the above challenges. Specifically, a multi-scale filter layer equipped with multi-learnable filters is devised to encode behavior-aware sequential patterns emerging from different periodic trends (e.g., daily or weekly routines), and then a hypergraph structure is devised to extract heterogeneous dependencies across users’ multiple types of behaviors. Extensive experiments on two real-world e-commerce datasets show the superiority of our proposed FHT-MB over various state-of-the-art methods. 1

Graphs widely exist in real-world, and Graph Neural networks (GNNs) have exhibited exceptional efficacy in graph learning in diverse fields. With the strengthening of data privacy protection worldwide in recent years, Federated graph neural networks (FedGNNs) have gained increasing attention in academia and industry owing to their ability to train the model in a collaborative manner while complying with the privacy protection regulations. However, in federated learning, the non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) problem of local data possessed by multiple participants can significantly undermine model accuracy. We propose a new Decentralized Federated Graph Normalized AutoEncoder (D-FGNAE). First, the model is designed as a decentralized federated learning framework with dynamically assigned tripartite roles. This design eliminates the fixed server role found in traditional federated learning, enhances system fault tolerance, avoids single points of failure, and protects model privacy. Second, the splitting and correcting of calculation by layer in the model, along with the special design of the normalization layer, effectively tackle the non-IID problem in both the structural and attribute aspects. Experimental results on real-world networks demonstrate the effectiveness of D-FGNAE, which can achieve nearly the same accuracy as the centralized model. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
