Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century, with profound environmental, economic, and social impacts. Machine learning (ML) has emerged as a transformative tool to address climate challenges through data-driven solutions, offering predictive capabilities for extreme weather events and enhancing the efficiency of clean-energy systems. This technology benefits the optimization of renewable energy generation, intelligent grid management, and resource utilization towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, ML promotes climate justice through targeted region-specific intervention and inclusive solution-making for the most vulnerable. Several technical and ethical challenges associated with data quality, scalability, and model generalization must still be overcome for ML to realize its potential. This paper reviews the role of ML in climate change prediction and mitigation discusses ongoing real-world applications and outlines the future research agenda necessary to address existing challenges. Integrating ML with emerging technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and explainable AI, alongside global collaboration and a focus on climate justice, will be essential in advancing effective climate action. © 2025 IEEE.

Space docking is an important aspect of modern-day space exploration, enabling crewed missions, shipment transport, and spacecraft refuelling. Traditionally, manual docking has trusted astronaut precision and floor manipulation coordination, which has grown to be inefficient and blunders-susceptible in deep-space missions because of conversation delays. Integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine Learning (ML) is reworking area docking by introducing self-reliant, actual-time selection-making structures. IoT-enabled sensors continuously monitor spacecraft role, pace, and orientation, while ML algorithms optimize docking manoeuvres, beautify predictive upkeep, and make certain collision avoidance. Reinforcement learning similarly allows adaptive management strategies, making self-sufficient docking more efficient and dependable. This paper explores the improvements in IoT and ML for automating space docking, reading real-global programs along with SpaceX Dragon, NASA's AR&D systems, and China's Tianzhou cargo deliver. By addressing key demanding situations-precision, pace, and safety-those technologies pave the way for sustainable space exploration, including future Mars missions and autonomous area stations. The observation highlights how AI-driven docking may be integral for deep-space operations, making sure safer and more green missions are made. © 2025 IEEE.

The huge volumes of data produced in social media provide both new possibilities and challenges to analytics. The present paper emphasizes Big data analytics and Machine Learning (ML) methods to uncover trends, patterns, and user behavior from social media-related data. Such vital concepts, like the “Four Vs” of Big data: Volume, Velocity, Variety, and Veracity, and innovative tools for datacollection, storage, and preprocessing are covered here as well. Sentiment analysis, trend forecasting, and user behaviormodeling are some of the examples of what is possible using ML and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for deriving actionable insights. Marketing campaigns, crisis communications, and political campaigns are some of the scenarios that are covered to bring out real world applications of such technologies, along with their transformative effects. Lastly, data privacy, quality, and scalability issues are noted, along with ethical concerns and biases. Directions for the future point to developments in real-time data analysis, anonymization, and the changing role of AI in social media platforms. This research emphasizes the significance of Big data and machine learning in driving innovation and decision-making in the digital era.

In Internet of Things(IoT) systems, ensuring the secure exchange of information between devices from different domains is crucial. Current cross-domain authentication schemes based on a single blockchain struggle to meet the confidentiality requirements for data and information exchange in large-scale IoT systems. This paper proposes a blockchain-based identity authentication scheme (BCPPAS) for IoT, featuring dual-chain collaboration, and designs a novel certificateless aggregate signature algorithm to address complex certificate management and key escrow issues. The edge server is capable of aggregating different signatures to achieve batch authentication, markedly improving authentication efficiency and reducing computational and storage overhead. Also, BCPPAS is designed to avoid costly bilinear pairing operations, providing less computational overhead for IoT devices with limited resources. To protect the privacy of IoT devices, BCPPAS uses the pseudonym instead of the real identity. Finally, efficiency of BCPPAS are demonstrated through theoretical analysis and experiments.

Multimodal image fusion aims to merge features from different modalities to create a comprehensively representative image. However, existing medical image fusion methods often struggle to handle noise generated during image acquisition, significantly diminishing their impact on visual quality. To address these challenges, we propose a semantically text-guided medical image fusion model, named TDMF. Specifically, TDMF guides classical image fusion through textual semantics and effectively coordinates the resolution of degradation and interaction issues during the fusion process. By integrating text encoders and interactive fusion modules, TDMF establishes a unified framework for denoising and interactive fusion of medical images. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that our proposed text-guided image fusion strategy offers significant advantages over state-of-the-art methods in medical image fusion performance.

Slot filling and intent detection are two highly correlated tasks in spoken language understanding (SLU). Recent SLU research attempts to explore zero-shot prompting techniques in large language models to alleviate the data scarcity problem. Nevertheless, the existing prompting work ignores the cross-task interaction information for SLU, which leads to sub-optimal performance. To solve this problem, we present the pioneering work of Cross-task Interactive Prompting (CroPrompt) for SLU, which enables the model to interactively leverage the information exchange across the correlated tasks in SLU. Additionally, we further introduce a multi-task self-consistency mechanism to mitigate the error propagation caused by the intent information injection. We conduct extensive experiments on the standard SLU benchmark and the results reveal that CroPrompt consistently outperforms the existing prompting approaches. In addition, the multi-task self-consistency mechanism can effectively ease the error propagation issue, thereby enhancing the performance. We hope this work can inspire more research on cross-task prompting for SLU. © 2025 IEEE.

Renewable energy resources (RERs) have been increasingly integrated into distribution networks (DNs) for decarbonization. However, the variable nature of RERs introduces uncertainties to DNs, frequently resulting in voltage fluctuations that threaten system security and hamper the further adoption of RERs. To incentivize more RER penetration, we propose a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based strategy to dynamically balance the trade-off between voltage fluctuation control and renewable accommodation. To further extract multi-time-scale spatial-temporal (ST) graphical information of a DN, our strategy draws on a multi-grained attention-based spatial-temporal graph convolution network (MG-ASTGCN), consisting of ST attention mechanism and ST convolution to explore the node correlations in the spatial and temporal views. The continuous decision-making process of balancing such a trade-off can be modeled as a Markov decision process optimized by the deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) algorithm with the help of the derived ST information. We validate our strategy on the modified IEEE 33, 69, and 118-bus radial distribution systems, with outcomes significantly outperforming the optimization-based benchmarks. Simulations also reveal that our developed MG-ASTGCN can to a great extent accelerate the convergence speed of DDPG and improve its performance in stabilizing node voltage in an RER-rich DN. Euler diagrams are a tool for the graphical representation of set relations. Due to their simple way of visualizing elements in the sets by geometric containment, they are easily readable by an inexperienced reader. Euler diagrams where the sets are visualized as aligned rectangles are of special interest. In this work, we link the existence of such rectangular Euler diagrams to the order dimension of an associated order relation. For this, we consider Euler diagrams in one and two dimensions. Dealing with uncertainty is a significant direction of contemporary research on decision support systems. Despite many sophisticated methods of dealing with uncertain data, such as fuzzy sets and their numerous generalizations, methods based on interval numbers are still very popular. This is because interval data are much less complex and easier to process, and they are also easier to determine. However, there is a research gap regarding whether such a simple approach can adequately model uncertainty. This paper proposes a new approach to handling interval data in the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method based on the cartesian product of boundaries. This approach is compared with the most popular extension proposed by Jahanshahloo. In this work, two study cases taken from the literature were analyzed. Finally, the results of both approaches were compared, and conclusions were drawn. © 2022 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
