Containerization in a multi-cloud environment facilitates workload portability and optimized resource utilization. Containerization in multi-cloud environments has received significant attention in recent years both from academic research and industrial development perspectives. However, there exists no effort to systematically investigate the state of research on this topic. The aim of this research is to systematically identify and categorize the multiple aspects of containerization in multi-cloud environment. We conducted the Systematic Mapping Study (SMS) on the literature published between January 2013 and July 2024. One hundred twenty one studies were selected and the key results are: (1) Four leading themes on containerization in multi-cloud environment are identified: ‘Scalability and High Availability’, ‘Performance and Optimization’, ‘Security and Privacy’, and ‘Multi-Cloud Container Monitoring and Adaptation’. (2) Ninety-eight patterns and strategies for containerization in multi-cloud environment were classified across 10 subcategories and 4 categories. (3) Ten quality attributes considered were identified with 47 associated tactics. (4) Four catalogs consisting of challenges and solutions related to security, automation, deployment, and monitoring were introduced. The results of this SMS will assist researchers and practitioners in pursuing further studies on containerization in multi-cloud environment and developing specialized solutions for containerization applications in multi-cloud environment. © 2024, CC BY.

In the current global scenario, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become imperative for healthcare systems around the globe to swiftly and accurately diagnose the disease. This is where cutting-edge approaches such as machine learning (ML) come into play, specifically, ML-based identification of COVID-19 from chest X-ray and CT-Scan imagery. Our research collective is devotedly working towards devising a robust, accurate ML model capable of deciphering these images to identify COVID-19 effectively. This involves the application of a variety of AI algorithms and vast data resources. Our work is grounded on a large, annotated image dataset that aids in training and refining the model. Our findings indicate that ML methodologies can discern COVID-19 from chest X-ray and CT scan images with a mean accuracy of 90%. Such a tool holds promise in aiding medical practitioners in prompt and precise patient diagnosis, thereby improving patient prognosis. The most notable contribution of our study lies in the creation of an ML model that can accurately detect COVID-19 in chest X-ray and CT-Scan images, potentially aiding in early disease detection and management.

Advances in the understanding of dendrites promote the development of dendritic computation. For decades, the researchers are committed to proposing an appropriate neural model, which may feedback the research on neurons. This paper aims to employ an effective metaheuristic optimization algorithm as the learning algorithms to train the dendritic neuron model (DNM). The powerful ability of the backpropagation (BP) algorithm to train artificial neural networks led us to employ it as a learning algorithm for a conventional DNM, but this also inevitably causes the DNM to suffer from the drawbacks of the algorithm. Therefore, a metaheuristic optimization algorithm, named the firefly algorithm (FA) is adopted to train the DNM (FADNM). Experiments on twelve datasets involving classification and prediction are performed to evaluate the performance. The experimental results and corresponding statistical analysis show that the learning algorithm plays a decisive role in the performance of the DNM. It is worth emphasizing that the FADNM incorporates an invaluable neural pruning scheme to eliminate superfluous synapses and dendrites, simplifying its structure and forming a unique morphology. This simplified morphology can be implemented in hardware through logic circuits, which approximately has no effect on the accuracy of the original model. The hardwareization enables the FADNM to efficiently process high-speed data streams for large-scale data, which leads us to believe that it might be a promising technology to deal with big data. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The computation of short paths in graphs with arc lengths is a pillar of graph algorithmics and network science. In a more diverse world, however, not every short path is equally valuable. For the setting where each vertex is assigned to a group (color), we provide a framework to model multiple natural fairness aspects. We seek to find short paths in which the number of occurrences of each color is within some given lower and upper bounds. Among other results, we prove the introduced problems to be computationally intractable (NP-hard and parameterized hard with respect to the number of colors) even in very restricted settings (such as each color should appear with exactly the same frequency), while also presenting an encouraging algorithmic result ("fixed-parameter tractability") related to the length of the sought solution path for the general problem. Lower-limb exoskeleton robots can medically assist stroke patients in standing and walking, but there is little research on lower-limb exoskeleton robots that assist in standing balance. In this paper, we design the system of a lower limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot that can assist in standing balance. We performed kinematic modeling with OpenSim and forward dynamics simulation with SCONE. Having identified the muscle groups and joints that affect standing balance more significantly. This paper focuses on the effects of the hip and iliopsoas muscles on standing balance. We have developed a control system for a lower-limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot that realizes: when inputting a hip joint change angle signal, an opposite moment and angle are output to control the lower limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot to assist the patient to achieve standing balance. The robotic system was simulated and analyzed using Matlab and the results showed the effectiveness of the system to keep the patient in standing balance.

The scientific instrument technology has growth faster than we all could imagine, there are many research team keeping their momentum in creating new innovation in scientific instrumentation technologies. The optical microscopes are still being used widely in the scientific research especially by researcher and medical practitioners. Manually deal with the microscope could make the user spend so much time to obtain the result of cleared image. It could cost hours to obtain the desire result. From this problem, this study proposes the development of hardware system for auto focused of an optical microscope. The proposed system consists of two stepper motors that will move the fine focus knob and the course focus knob on a microscope. The timing belts are being used as mounting between the stepper motor and the fine/course focus knob. The motor will move step by step in same degree given from the command of a program. The motor is able to be controlled and it moves slowly to perform an auto focus task. Additionally, it is able to move in a small angle to find the proper exposure of the images scan. The hardware implementation of auto focus on the optical microscope has been tested and it worked perfectly. The result presented in this study shows that the proposed system is able to do auto focus in precise step which is step. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

A quantum system control method based on enhanced reinforcement learning

Traditional quantum system control methods often face different constraints, and are easy to cause both leakage and stochastic control errors under the condition of limited resources. Reinforcement learning has been proved as an efficient way to complete the quantum system control task. To learn a satisfactory control strategy under the condition of limited resources, a quantum system control method based on enhanced reinforcement learning (QSC-ERL) is proposed. The states and actions in reinforcement learning are mapped to quantum states and control operations in quantum systems. By using a new enhanced neural networks, reinforcement learning can quickly achieve the maximization of long-term cumulative rewards, and a quantum state can be evolved accurately from an initial state to a target state. According to the number of candidate unitary operations, the three-switch control is used for simulation experiments. Compared with other methods, the QSC-ERL achieves close to 1 fidelity learning control of quantum systems, and takes fewer episodes to quantum state evolution under the condition of limited resources. © 2023, CC BY.

Segmentation of a liver in computed tomography (CT) images is an important step toward quantitative biomarkers for a computer-aided decision support system and precise medical diagnosis. To overcome the difficulties that come across the liver segmentation that are affected by fuzzy boundaries, stacked autoencoder (SAE) is applied to learn the most discriminative features of the liver among other tissues in abdominal images. In this paper, we propose a patch-based deep learning method for the segmentation of a liver from CT images using SAE. Unlike the traditional machine learning methods, instead of anticipating pixel by pixel learning, our algorithm utilizes the patches to learn the representations and identify the liver area. We preprocessed the whole dataset to get the enhanced images and converted each image into many overlapping patches. These patches are given as input to SAE for unsupervised feature learning. Finally, the learned features with labels of the images are fine tuned, and the classification is performed to develop the probability map in a supervised way. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm shows satisfactory results on test images. The Virtual Reality (VR) Semiconductor Laboratory, a computer-based virtual lab designed for training engineering students in semiconductor concepts, was evaluated to enhance user experience (UX) in virtual environments. A sample of 97 participants, including undergraduate, Master's, and PhD students, participated in the study. The User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) was developed to collect data from users to evaluate their experience with the VR lab. The results of the study showed that the participants had a positive experience with the VR learning environment. They found the experience to be enjoyable, easy to understand, and helpful in completing learning tasks. The majority of participants rated the experience as very easy or easy in terms of learning and understanding the material, enjoyment, ease of using the interface, comfort with body movement during learning, and assistance with tasks. Additionally, most participants rated the experience as very easy in terms of task completion and comfort with the VR experiment. The study found high reliability in terms of usability, indicating that the UEQ is a valid and reliable tool for assessing virtual laboratory usability. These findings suggest that virtual laboratories can be effective learning and training tools in various fields, such as science and engineering. This research highlights the potential of VR technology in improving the training and learning experience for students.
