Cross-entropy benchmarking is a central technique used to certify a quantum chip in recent experiments. To better understand its mathematical foundation and develop new benchmarking schemes, we introduce the concept of ergodicity to random circuit sampling and find that the Haar random quantum circuit satisfies an ergodicity condition—the average of certain types of post-processing function over the output bit strings is close to the average over the unitary ensemble. For noiseless random circuits, we prove that the ergodicity holds for polynomials of degree t with positive coefficients and when the random circuits form a unitary 2t-design. For strong enough noise, the ergodicity condition is violated. This suggests that ergodicity is a property that can be exploited to certify a quantum chip. We formulate the deviation of ergodicity as a measure for quantum chip benchmarking and show that it can be used to estimate the circuit fidelity for global depolarizing noise and weakly correlated noise. For a quadratic post-processing function, our framework recovers Google’s result on estimating the circuit fidelity via linear cross-entropy benchmarking (XEB), and we give a sufficient condition on the noise model characterizing when such estimation is valid. Our results establish an interesting connection between ergodicity and noise in random circuits and provide new insights into designing quantum benchmarking schemes. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the criticality of timely intervention in a situation exacerbated by a shortage in medical staff and equipment. Pain-level screening is the initial step toward identifying the severity of patient conditions. Automatic recognition of state and feelings help in identifying patient symptoms to take immediate adequate action and providing a patient-centric medical plan tailored to a patient's state. In this paper, we propose a framework for pain-level detection for deployment in the United Arab Emirates and assess its performance using the most used approaches in the literature. Our results show that a deployment of a pain-level deep learning detection framework is promising in identifying the pain level accurately.

We study quantum hypothesis testing between orthogonal states under restricted local measurements in the many-copy scenario. For testing arbitrary multipartite entangled pure state against its orthogonal complement state via the local operation and classical communication (LOCC) operation, we prove that the optimal average error probability always decays exponentially in the number of copies. Second, we provide a sufficient condition for the LOCC operations to achieve the same performance as the positive-partial-transpose (PPT) operations. We further show that testing a maximally entangled state against its orthogonal complement and testing extremal Werner states both fulfill the above-mentioned condition. Hence, we determine the explicit expressions for the optimal average error probability, the optimal trade-off between the type-I and type-II errors, and the associated Chernoff, Stein, Hoeffding, and strong converse exponents. Then, we show an infinite asymptotic separation between the separable (SEP) and PPT operations by providing a pair of states constructed from an unextendible product basis (UPB). The quantum states can be distinguished perfectly by PPT operations, while the optimal error probability, with SEP operations, admits an exponential lower bound. On the technical side, we prove this result by providing a quantitative version of the well-known statement that the tensor product of UPBs is a UPB. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

software quality assessment model: a systematic mapping study

Quality model is regarded as a well-accepted approach for assessing, managing and improving software product quality. There are three categories of quality models for software products, i.e., definition model, assessment model, and prediction model. Quality assessment model(QAM) is a metric-based approach to assess the software quality. It is typically regarded as of high importance for its clear method on how to assess a system. However, the current state-of-the-art in QAM research is under limited *** address this gap, the paper provides an organized and synthesized summary of the current QAMs. In detail, we conduct a systematic mapping study(SMS) for structuring the relevant articles. We obtain a total of 716 papers from the five databases, and 31 papers are selected as relevant studies at last. In summary, our work focuses on QAMs from the following aspects: software metrics, quality factors, aggregation methods,evaluation methods and tool support. According to the analysis results, our work discovers five needs that researchers in this area should continue to address:(1) new method and criteria to tailor a quality framework(i.e., structure of software metrics and quality factors) according to different specifics,(2) systematic investigations on the effectiveness, strength and weakness of different aggregation methods to guide the method selection in different context,(3) more investigations on evaluating QAMs in the context of industrial cases,(4) further investigations or real-world case studies on the QAMs related tools, and(5) building a public and diverse software benchmark which can be adopted in different application context.

The hybridization of battery and supercapacitors (SCs) forms a highly effective energy storage system (ESS) for the electrified transportation that offers both energy and power at the same time as per the load requirements. However, the SC bank in hybrid ESS (HESS) deficits in delivering power for a longer duration to serve a higher number of transients. To reduce the burden on batteries and the overall system cost, a new auxiliary bank switching strategy for SCs with enhanced power delivery duration is introduced in this paper. A simple power management control is proposed to effectively switch the SCs from parallel to series combinations while serving the dynamic load demands. The key performance of the proposed circuit is holistically evaluated using PLECS simulations and a scaled-down laboratory prototype in terms of maximum power delivery time and SC cell energy utilization. The impact on passive components of the bi-directional converter with proposed architecture in terms of current stress is analyzed in detail. Finally, the suitability of the proposed architecture in HESS for an electric vehicle (EV) is verified on an OPAL-RT real-time simulator under a standard new European driving cycle. © 2020 IEEE.

Graph learning-based multi-modal integration and classification is one of the most challenging tasks for disease prediction. To effectively offset the negative impact among modalities in the process of multi-modal integration and heterogeneous information extractions from graphs, we propose a novel method called Multi-modal Multi-Kernel Graph Learning (MMKGL). To solve the problem of negative impact among modalities, we propose a multi-modal graph embedding module to construct a multi-modal graph. Different from conventional methods that manually construct static graphs for all modalities, each modality generates a separate graph by adaptive learning, where a function graph and a supervision graph are introduced for optimization during the multi-graph fusion embedding process. We then propose a multi-kernel graph learning module to extract heterogeneous information from the multi-modal graph. The information in the multi-modal graph at different levels is aggregated by convolutional kernels with different receptive field sizes, followed by generating a cross-kernel discovery tensor for disease prediction. Our method is evaluated on the benchmark Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange (ABIDE) dataset and outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. In addition, discriminative brain regions associated with autism are identified by our model, providing guidance for the study of autism pathology. Malignant diseases are among the leading causes of mortality. The registration of malignant diseases in Bulgaria is mandatory. The information from the National Cancer Registry about the registered patients, their psychosocial distress and the medical establishments provides an opportunity to conduct research with machine learning methods on a large volume of data. The study aims to apply three machine learning algorithms-CHART, Boosting and Bagging to create classification models for determining the rating of a medical institution and the level of distress of a patient. We present results obtained in a comparative study of different classification methods. © 2020 IEEE.

Fusionfrfcm: An Image Fusion Approach Driven by Non-Global Fuzzy Pre-Enhancement Framework

Most of the existing image fusion models adopt a global strategy, which usually reduces the contrast of infrared images. In this paper, we propose an image fusion approach driven by a non-global fuzzy pre-enhancement framework (FusionFRFCM), which is more suitable for the structure of the infrared (IR) image. A contrast equalization algorithm based on Fourth-order Partial Differential Equation (FPDE) algorithm is proposed, which is used to enhance the background region. Due to the differences between IR and visible (VIS) images, a hybrid fusion strategy based on Expectation Maximization algorithm (EM) and Principal Component Analysis algorithm (PCA) is designed. Compared with other state-of-the-art fusion methods, the experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has better fusion performance in both qualitative and quantitative results. In addition, to verify the effectiveness of our proposed FusionFRFCM in practical application, the fusion framework is embedded into the RGBT target tracking task under the VOT-RGBT2019 and OTCBVS datasets. Through comparative experiments, it is found that the FusionFRFCM frameworkcan easily be integrated with the tracking task and can improve the tracking accuracy in many scenes. © 2022, The Authors. EventTrojan: Manipulating Non-Intrusive Speech Quality Assessment via Imperceptible Events

Non-Intrusive speech quality assessment (NISQA) has gained significant attention for predicting speech’s mean opinion score (MOS) without requiring the reference speech. Researchers have gradually started to apply NISQA to various practical scenarios. However, little attention has been paid to the security of NISQA models. Backdoor attacks represent the most serious threat to deep neural networks (DNNs) due to the fact that backdoors possess a very high attack success rate once embedded. However, existing backdoor attacks assume that the attacker actively feeds samples containing triggers into the model during the inference phase. This is not adapted to the specific scenario of NISQA. And current backdoor attacks on regression tasks lack an objective metric to measure the attack performance. To address these issues, we propose a novel backdoor triggering approach (EventTrojan) that utilizes an event during the usage of the NISQA model as a trigger. Moreover, we innovatively provide an objective metric for backdoor attacks on regression tasks. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the EventTrojan attack. Besides, it also has good resistance to several defense methods. We consider the problem of choosing a subset of proposed road network upgrades to implement within a fixed budget in order to optimize the benefit in terms of vehicle hours travelled (VHT), and show how to render the solution of this problem more tractable by reducing the number of traffic assignment problems that must be solved. This technique is extended to develop a heuristic algorithm for finding a schedule of road upgrades over a planning period that maximizes the net present value of the resulting VHT reductions.
