5G communication systems provide an end-to-end wireless connection to billions of users and devices across the globe. The quality of signals received during radio communication is notably influenced by the behavior of the radio propagation channel. A major parameter used in characterizing this channel is the Path Loss Exponent (PLE). Several works that have estimated and analyzed the PLE mostly considered the effect of distance and carrier frequency. However, the effect of base station antenna height and channel bandwidth on the PLE for 5G networks have not been adequately considered. To address this, the impact of antenna height of base station and channel bandwidth on the PLE within the 5G Frequency Range 1 (FR1) frequencies was investigated in this study, specifically at 800, 3500, and 5900 MHz. The licensed EDX Signal Pro software® with Cirrus high resolution global terrain and clutter data base was utilized to model, simulate and analyze the PLE for Kano City, Nigeria. Results showed that for the tested frequencies, an increase in either base station height or channel bandwidth leads to a significant reduction in the PLE. This study can be utilized by network planning engineers and the wireless research community to further improve network implementation and optimization toward understanding the behavior of signal propagation in 5G networks and beyond. © 2023 IEEE.

Image enhancement and segmentation is widely used for fingerprint identification and authorization in biometrics devices, criminal scene is most challenges due to low quality of fingerprint, the most significant efforts is to develop algorithm for latent fingerprint enhancement which become challenging problem due to the complex and existing problem for instance, developing algorithms of latent fingerprint is able to extract features of image blocks and removing overlapping and isolate the poor and noisy background. however, it's still challenging and interested problem specifically latent fingerprint enhancement and segmentation. The aim study of this paper is to propose latent fingerprint enhancement and segmentation based on hybrid model and Chan-Vese method for segmentation, in order to reduce low image quality and increase the accuracy of fingerprint. The desired characteristics of intended technique are adaptive, effective and accurate, hybrid model of edge adaptive direction achieves accurate latent fingerprint enhancement and segmentation, the target needs to improve feature detection and performance, this research has proposed system architecture of research method in fingerprint enhancement and segmentation where is the method content two stages, the first is normalization and second is reconstruction, using EDTV model is required for adaptive noise, in addition Chan-vase technique contributed for identification of fingerprint image features, the result and testing using RMSE with three categories of fingerprint images good, bad and ugly show better performance for all three categories, as well RMSE shows the average of good latent fingerprint before and after enhancement. Biometrics such as face, fingerprint, iris, voice and palm prints are the most widely used, and as well the fingerprints are one of the most frequently used biometrics to identify individuals and authenticate their identity. commonly categorized into three different categories which are rolled, plain and latent fingerprints. The reliability of image segmentation for latent fingerprint which is used in criminal issues still challenges, The difficulty of latent fingerprint image segmentation mainly lies in the poor quality of fingerprint patterns and the presence of the noise in the background, This research has investigated the fingerprint segmentation and matching based on EDTV and presented Chan-vese active contour segmentation technique, in addition, presented NIST SD27 for grayscale dataset of latent fingerprint which is standard by National Institute of Standard and Technology, where is dataset have varieties of fingerprint image samples, a total about 258 of latent fingerprint, those samples collected from crime scenes and matching fingerprint and shown the performance of matching accuracy ROC and CMC curves, To evaluate the performance of the matching ROC and CMC curves has been deployed, The area under curve (AUC) of the ROC of the good images performance is 72% with CMC rank1-idnetification of 42% and rank-20 identification of 79%. the result shows that the latent fingerprint method performance is better for good latent fingerprint images compare to bad and ugly images, while there is no much difference for bad and ugly image. © 2021 IEEE.

A Graph-Theoretic Framework for Free-Parafermion Solvability

We show that a quantum spin system has an exact free-parafermion solution if its frustration graph is an oriented indifference graph. Further, we show that if the frustration graph of a model can be dipath oriented via switching operations, then the model is integrable in the sense that there is a family of commuting independent set charges. Additionally, we establish an efficient algorithm for deciding whether this is possible. Our characterisation extends that given for free-fermion solvability. We study the problem of placing wildlife crossings, such as green bridges, over human-made obstacles to challenge habitat fragmentation. The main task herein is, given a graph describing habitats or routes of wildlife animals and possibilities of building green bridges, to find a low-cost placement of green bridges that connects the habitats. Improving robustness of malware classifiers using adversarial strings generated from perturbed latent representations

In malware behavioral analysis, the list of accessed and created files very often indicates whether the examined file is malicious or benign. However, malware authors are trying to avoid detection by generating random filenames and/or modifying used filenames with new versions of the malware. These changes represent real-world adversarial examples. The goal of this work is to generate realistic adversarial examples and improve the classifier’s robustness against these attacks. Our approach learns latent representations of input strings in an unsupervised fashion and uses gradient-based adversarial attack methods in the latent domain to generate adversarial examples in the input domain. We use these examples to improve the classifier’s robustness by training on the generated adversarial set of strings. Compared to classifiers trained only on perturbed latent vectors, our approach produces classifiers that are significantly more robust without a large trade-off in standard accuracy. Verifying quantum systems has attracted a lot of interests in the last decades. In this paper, we initialise the model checking of quantum continuous-time Markov chain (QCTMC). As a real-time system, we specify the temporal properties on QCTMC by signal temporal logic (STL). To effectively check the atomic propositions in STL, we develop a state-of-the-art real root isolation algorithm under Schanuel's conjecture;further, we check the general STL formula by interval operations with a bottom-up fashion, whose query complexity turns out to be linear in the size of the input formula by calling the real root isolation algorithm. Meta-learning Spiking Neural Networks with Surrogate Gradient Descent

Adaptive "life-long" learning at the edge and during online task performance is an aspirational goal of AI research. Neuromorphic hardware implementing Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) are particularly attractive in this regard, as their real-time, event-based, local computing paradigm makes them suitable for edge implementations and fast learning. However, the long and iterative learning that characterizes state-of-the-art SNN training is incompatible with the physical nature and real-time operation of neuromorphic hardware. Bi-level learning, such as meta-learning is increasingly used in deep learning to overcome these limitations. In this work, we demonstrate gradient-based meta-learning in SNNs using the surrogate gradient method that approximates the spiking threshold function for gradient estimations. Because surrogate gradients can be made twice differentiable, well-established, and effective second-order gradient meta-learning methods such as Model Agnostic Meta Learning (MAML) can be used. We show that SNNs meta-trained using MAML match or exceed the performance of conventional Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) meta-trained with MAML on event-based meta-datasets. Furthermore, we demonstrate the specific advantages that accrue from meta-learning: fast learning without the requirement of high precision weights or gradients. Our results emphasize how meta-learning techniques can become instrumental for deploying neuromorphic learning technologies on real-world problems. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. The increasing demand for massive connectivity and high data rates has made the efficient use of existing spectrum resources an increasingly challenging problem. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a potential solution for future heterogeneous networks (HetNets) due to its high capacity and spectrum efficiency. In this study, we analyze an uplink NOMA-enabled vehicular-aided HetNet, where multiple vehicular user equipment (VUEs) share the access link spectrum, and a high-altitude platform (HAP) communicates with roadside units (RSUs) through a backhaul communication link. We propose an improved algorithm for user association that selects VUEs for HAPs based on channel coefficient ratios and terrestrial VUEs based on a caching-state backhaul communication link. The joint optimization problems aim to maximize a utility function that considers VUE transmission rates and cross-tier interference while meeting the constraints of backhaul transmission rates and QoS requirements of each VUE. The joint resource allocation optimization problem consists of three sub-problems: bandwidth allocation, user association, and transmission power allocation. We derive a closed-form solution for bandwidth allocation and solve the transmission power allocation sub-problem iteratively using Taylor expansion to transform a non-convex term into a convex one. Our proposed three-stage iterative algorithm for resource allocation integrates all three sub-problems and is shown to be effective through simulation results. Deployment of polar codes for mission-critical machine-type communication over wireless networks

Mission critical Machine-type Communication (mcMTC), also referred to as Ultra-reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC), has become a research hotspot. It is primarily characterized by communication that provides ultra-high reliability and very low latency to concurrently transmit short commands to a massive number of connected devices. While the reduction in physical (PHY) layer overhead and improvement in channel coding techniques are pivotal in reducing latency and improving reliability, the current wireless standards dedicated to support mcMTC rely heavily on adopting the bottom layers of general-purpose wireless standards and customizing only the upper layers. The mcMTC has a significant technical impact on the design of all layers of the communication protocol stack. In this paper, an innovative bottom-up approach has been proposed for mcMTC applications through PHY layer targeted at improving the transmission reliability by implementing ultra-reliable channel coding scheme in the PHY layer of IEEE 802.11a standard bearing in mind short packet transmission system. To achieve this aim, we analyzed and compared the channel coding performance of convolutional codes (CCs), low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, and polar codes in wireless network on the condition of short data packet transmission. The Viterbi decoding algorithm (VA), logarithmic belief propagation (Log-BP) algorithm, and cyclic redundancy check (CRC) successive cancellation list (SCL) (CRC-SCL) decoding algorithm were adopted to CC, LDPC codes, and polar codes, respectively. Consequently, a new PHY layer for mcMTC has been proposed. The reliability of the proposed approach has been validated by simulation in terms of Bit error rate (BER) and packet error rate (PER) ***-to-noise ratio (SNR).
