Cancer is a major cause of death for many people around the world. There are a number of types of cancers and they are curable; only if it is detected at its early stages. Skin cancer has increasing victims all around the world. Many computers based diagnoses have been developed to deal with this disease and help the physician to classify and detect the occurrence of the cancer. In this study, a reliable methodology has been proposed to deal with the lung's cancer classification based upon the data of 3600 pictures (224 x 224). There are two classes of images: Malignant and benign. Each class contains 1800 images. A reliable system is developed using a Convolutional Neural Network and fully connected layers. The proposed model improved the accuracy to 86.23% with efficient computations.

Tissue samples (10 samples of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of nose, 10 specimens of adenocarcinoma prostate, 12 of ovary, 12 of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) of kidney, and 14 samples of breast cancer) were received in paraffin-embedded blocks, stained with H&E and investigated using a high-resolution microscope. The BCC of the skin showed tumor nests, necrosis, cytological atypia, and abnormal cell to nuclei ratio, and the nodular type and Breslow thickness is 3.0 cm. For prostate cancer, Gleason’s grade is 4+4 and the obtained score is 8/10. Its grade group is 4. In ovary cancer, the squamous discrepancy is very usual. Some alternates are present like mucin rich and secretory, small cells with scanty cytoplasm settled in fragments, violent tumors, and cystic and solid areas in addition to hemorrhage and necrosis. In RCC, tumor cells have sharply outlined cell boundaries and the cytoplasm ranges from optically clear to deeply granular. Tubular, papillary, and cystic formation and abundant glycogen, abnormal mitotic activity with debris all over the tissue sample is seen. The breast tumor showed a grey-white solid area, with 10 lymph nodes identified in the axilla. The specimen is of the type right mastectomy with axillary clearance and the tumor types are invasive ductal cell carcinoma having grade 2 and lobular carcinoma. Resected margins are free of tumor. Axillary lymph node 3/10 shows metastatic carcinoma. ©2025 Old City Publishing, Inc.

Variational quantum algorithms (VQAs) have shown strong evidences to gain provable computational advantages for diverse fields such as finance, machine learning, and chemistry. However, the heuristic ansatz exploited in modern VQAs is incapable of balancing the tradeoff between expressivity and trainability, which may lead to the degraded performance when executed on the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) machines. To address this issue, here we demonstrate the first proof-of-principle experiment of applying an efficient automatic ansatz design technique, i.e., quantum architecture search (QAS), to enhance VQAs on an 8-qubit superconducting quantum processor. In particular, we apply QAS to tailor the hardware-efficient ansatz towards classification tasks. Compared with the heuristic ansätze, the ansatz designed by QAS improves test accuracy from 31% to 98%. We further explain this superior performance by visualizing the loss landscape and analyzing effective parameters of all ansätze. Our work provides concrete guidance for developing variable ansätze to tackle various large-scale quantum learning problems with advantages. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Optimal rate adaption in federated learning with compressed communications

Federated Learning (FL) incurs high communication overhead, which can be greatly alleviated by compression for model updates. Yet the tradeoff between compression and model accuracy in the networked environment remains unclear and, for simplicity, most implementations adopt a fixed compression rate only. In this paper, we for the first time systematically examine this tradeoff, identifying the influence of the compression error on the final model accuracy with respect to the learning rate. Specifically, we factor the compression error of each global iteration into the convergence rate analysis under both strongly convex and non-convex loss functions. We then present an adaptation framework to maximize the final model accuracy by strategically adjusting the compression rate in each iteration. We have discussed the key implementation issues of our framework in practical networks with representative compression algorithms. Experiments over the popular MNIST and CIFAR-10 datasets confirm that our solution effectively reduces network traffic yet maintains high model accuracy in FL. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Over the past years, the main objective of database management systems was to store data and give users the possibility to manipulate those data. SQL databases were sufficient in the first time, but with the evolution of computer science technologies, other factors start to appear;such as the volume of the stored data, the velocity of the transactions between the user and data, the possibility to store heterogeneous data (variety) and many other Big Data challenges. This paper presents the major differences between the SQL and NoSQL databases in term of variety, velocity and ease of programming. For SQL, we used the Oracle object-relational database and for NoSQL, we used MongoDB document-oriented database. The comparative study was applied to data modeled by graphs, where we consider a set of graphs and for each graph, we measure the time needed to insert the graph in the database, the size of the graph in the database and other factors. Measurements presents in this process are generally automatic and supported by a set of developed algorithms. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Distinguishing unitary gates on the IBM quantum processor

An unknown unitary gate, which is secretly chosen from several known ones, can always be distinguished perfectly. In this paper, we implement such a task on IBM's quantum processor. More precisely,we experimentally demonstrate the discrimination of two qubit unitary gates, the identity gate and the 2/3π-phase shift gate, using two discrimination schemes — the parallel scheme and the sequential scheme. We program these two schemes on the ibmqx4, a 5-qubit superconducting quantum processor via IBM cloud,with the help of the QSI modules. We report that both discrimination schemes achieve success probabilities at least 85%.

Indoor positioning is a thriving research area, which is slowly gaining market momentum. Its applications are mostly customized, ad hoc installations;ubiquitous applications analogous to Global Navigation Satellite System for outdoors are not available because of the lack of generic platforms, widely accepted standards and interoperability protocols. In this context, the indoor positioning and indoor navigation (IPIN) competition is the only long-term, technically sound initiative to monitor the state of the art of real systems by measuring their performance in a realistic environment. Most competing systems are pedestrian-oriented and based on the use of smartphones, but several competing tracks were set up, enabling comparison of an array of technologies. The two IPIN competitions described here include only off-site tracks. In contrast with on-site tracks where competitors bring their systems on-site - which were impossible to organize during 2021 and 2022 - in off-site tracks competitors download prerecorded data from multiple sensors and process them using the EvaalAPI, a real-time, web-based emulation interface. As usual with IPIN competitions, tracks were compliant with the EvAAL framework, ensuring consistency of the measurement procedure and reliability of results. The main contribution of this work is to show a compilation of possible indoor positioning scenarios and different indoor positioning solutions to the same problem. © 2023 CCBY.
