With the evolution of 5G technology, the telecom industry has influenced the livelihood of people and impacted the development of the national economy significantly. To increase revenue per customer and secure long-term contracts of users, telecommunications firms and enterprises have launched different types of telecom packages to satisfy the varying requirements of users. Although several recommender systems have been proposed in recent years for telecommunication package recommendation, extracting effective feature information from large and complex consumption data remains challenging. Considering the telecom package recommendation problems, traditional recommendation methods either use complex expert feature engineering or fail to perform end-to-end deep learning training. In this study, a recommender system based on deep & cross network (DCN), deep belief network (DBN), Embedding, and Word2Vec is proposed using the powerful learning abilities of deep learning. The proposed system fits the telecom package recommender system in terms of click-through rate prediction to provide a potential solution for the recommendation challenges faced by telecom enterprises. The proposed model can effectively capture the finite order interactional features and deep hidden features. Additionally, the text information in the data is completely used to further improve the recommendation ability of the model. Moreover, the proposed method does not require feature engineering. We conducted comprehensive experiments using real-world datasets, and the results verify that our method can generate improved recommendation accuracy in comparison with those observed in DBN, DCN, deep factorization machine, and deep neural network models individually. © 2021, CC BY.

Understanding the Issues, Their Causes and Solutions in Microservices Systems: An Empirical Study

Many small to large organizations have adopted the Microservices Architecture (MSA) style to develop and deliver their core businesses. Despite the popularity of MSA in the software industry, there is a limited evidence-based and thorough understanding of the types of issues (e.g., errors, faults, failures, and bugs) that microservices system developers experience, the causes of the issues, and the solutions as potential fixing strategies to address the issues. To ameliorate this gap, we conducted a mixed-methods empirical study that collected data from 2,641 issues from the issue tracking systems of 15 open-source microservices systems on GitHub, 15 interviews, and an online survey completed by 150 practitioners from 42 countries across 6 continents. Our analysis led to comprehensive taxonomies for the issues, causes, and solutions. The findings of this study inform that Technical Debt, Continuous Integration and Delivery, Exception Handling, Service Execution and Communication, and Security are the most dominant issues in microservices systems. Furthermore, General Programming Errors, Missing Features and Artifacts, and Invalid Configuration and Communication are the main causes behind the issues. Finally, we found 177 types of solutions that can be applied to fix the identified issues. Immersive technologies, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and extended reality (XR), create realistic digital experiences by overlaying digital elements. This study aims to highlight the benefits of utilizing VR technology in education, particularly in universities and higher education institutions, by integrating VR with educational theories to create engaging and interactive learning experiences that enhance understanding and retention. This review includes a comprehensive analysis of 103 works, synthesizing existing literature to evaluate the suitability of various educational approaches and theories for implementation in VR-based educational applications. The findings emphasize VR's potential to transform learning by providing immersive experiences that bridge different domains and encourage engagement. By integrating learning theory into VR development, meaningful learning environments can be created, improving student understanding and retention across diverse learning settings. The study concludes that the combination of technology and educational theories provides a novel approach to motivate students and foster deep learning in VR laboratories. © 2024 The Authors

With the continuous development of Io T, a number of sensors establish on the roadside to monitor traffic conditions in real time. The continuously traffic data generated by these sensors makes traffic management feasible. However, loss of data may occur due to inevitable sensor failure, impeding traffic managers to understand traffic dynamics clearly. In this situation, it is becoming a necessity to predict missing traffic flow accurately for effective traffic management. Furthermore, the traffic sensor data are often distributed and stored by different agencies,which inhibits the multi-party sensor data sharing significantly due to privacy concerns. Therefore, it has become a major obstacle to balance the tradeoff between data sharing and vehicle privacy. In light of these challenges, we propose a privacyaware and accurate missing traffic flow prediction approach based on time-aware Locality-Sensitive Hashing technique. At last, we deploy a set of experiments based on a real traffic dataset. Experimental reports demonstrate the feasibility of our proposal in terms of traffic flow prediction accuracy and efficiency while guaranteeing sensor data privacy.

Quantum systems have started to emerge as a disruptive technology and enabling platforms-exploiting the principles of quantum mechanics-to achieve quantum supremacy in computing. Academic research, industrial projects (e.g., Amazon Braket), and consortiums like 'Quantum Flagship' are striving to develop practically capable and commercially viable quantum computing (QC) systems and technologies. Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) is viewed as a solution attuned to the philosophy of service-orientation that can offer QC resources and platforms, as utility computing, to individuals and organisations who do not own quantum computers. To understand the quantum service development life cycle and pinpoint emerging trends, we used evidence-based software engineering approach to conduct a systematic mapping study (SMS) of research that enables or enhances QCaaS. The SMS process retrieved a total of 55 studies, and based on their qualitative assessment we selected 9 of them to investigate (i) the functional aspects, design models, patterns, programming languages, deployment platforms, and (ii) trends of emerging research on QCaaS. The results indicate three modelling notations and a catalogue of five design patterns to architect QCaaS, whereas Python (native code or frameworks) and Amazon Braket are the predominant solutions to implement and deploy QCaaS solutions. From the quantum software engineering (QSE) perspective, this SMS provides empirically grounded findings that could help derive processes, patterns, and reference architectures to engineer software services for QC. © 2023, CC BY.

This paper proposes a novel plastic neural model (PNM) at the single neuron level and a specified learning algorithm to train it. The dendritic structure of PNM presents its diversity to fulfill each particular task. During the training process, PNM divides the Euclidean space of the training instances into several appropriate hypercubes, which have the same dimensional number. And then, each hypercube is transformed into a corresponding dendritic branch in PNM. A suitable dendritic structure of PNM has been proved to have powerful computational capabilities to solve the classification problems. Both theoretical analysis and empirical study of the proposed model are demonstrated in this paper. Five benchmark problems are employed to verify the effectiveness of PNM in our experiment. The results have verified that PNM can provide competitive classification performance compared with several widely-used classifiers. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

During the revolution of webs, several modern web applications appeared. After developing electronic devices, Ubiquitous web applications (UWA) becomes an important part of web applications. UWAs are a new type of web applications which are accessed in various contexts, meaning through different devices, by users with various interests, at any time from any place around the globe. The problem is UWA features made challenge during the process development of web engineering methods. Interaction Flow Modeling Language (IFML) is the recent modeling language has many concepts for developing interactions in web applications compared with other web engineering methods. In this paper, we present the role of IFML method to develop UWA features through analyzing IFML and designing a case study. software quality is critical, as low quality, or "Code smell," increases technical debt and maintenance costs. There is a timely need for a collaborative model that detects and manages code smells by learning from diverse and distributed data sources while respecting privacy and providing a scalable solution for continuously integrating new patterns and practices in code quality management. However, the current literature is still missing such capabilities. This paper addresses the previous challenges by proposing a Federated Learning Code Smell Detection (FedCSD) approach, specifically targeting "God Class," to enable organizations to train distributed ML models while safeguarding data privacy collaboratively. We conduct experiments using manually validated datasets to detect and analyze code smell scenarios to validate our approach. Experiment 1, a centralized training experiment, revealed varying accuracies across datasets, with dataset two achieving the lowest accuracy (92.30%) and datasets one and three achieving the highest (98.90% and 99.5%, respectively). Experiment 2, focusing on cross-evaluation, showed a significant drop in accuracy (lowest: 63.80%) when fewer smells were present in the training dataset, reflecting technical debt. Experiment 3 involved splitting the dataset across 10 companies, resulting in a global model accuracy of 98.34%, comparable to the centralized model’s highest accuracy. The application of federated ML techniques demonstrates promising performance improvements in code-smell detection, benefiting both software developers and researchers. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Large energy consumption in data centers has become a challenging problem with the emergence of cloud computing and large scale data centers. In this paper, we present an architectural framework for thermal-aware resource management while considering energy efficiency. The framework consists of a layered architecture and integrates a set of easy-to-use client tools and a thermal-aware task management middleware to schedule tasks based on thermal conditions within a cluster and among different data centers. As part of this paper we focus on the development of a thermal-aware task scheduling component for a single data center. This component is fundamental to our future activities, while considering to balance the temperature distribution in a single data center, thus implicitly minimizing energy cost in data centers.

We set out to determine the feasibility of implementing Discrete Global Grid System (DGGS) representations of geometry support in a GeoSPARQL-enabled triplestore, and test the GeoSPARQL compliance for it. The implementation is a variant of Apache Jena's existing GeoSPARQL support. Compliance is tested using an adapted implementation of the GeoSPARQL Compliance Benchmark testing system developed previously to test for GeoSPARQL 1.0 compliance. The benchmark results confirm that a majority of the functions which were set out to be implemented in the course of this paper were implemented correctly and points out possible future work for full compliance. © 2022 CEUR-WS.
