Path2Vec: A Deep Representation Learning Method for Trajectory Feature Extraction and HYSPLIT Uncertainty Quantification

Accurate quantification of the uncertainty in HYSPLIT model simulations is crucial for analyzing atmospheric pollution propagation paths and assessing environmental risks. This study introduces Path2Vec, a method based on deep representation learning for extracting trajectory features and measuring uncertainty. The method is capable of mining spatiotemporal-independent trajectory motion patterns in the HYSPLIT model. We first extract spatiotemporal-invariant features of the trajectories using a sliding window technique. Subsequently, we utilize a deep representation learning model that integrates a variational autoencoder (VAE) with long short-Term memory (LSTM) networks to encode high-quality deep representations of the trajectories. By measuring the similarity and performing clustering analysis on the generated trajectory deep representations, we can identify and classify different motion patterns, and quantify the uncertainty of HYSPLIT. Experimental results indicate that the Path2Vec method surpasses traditional similarity measurement techniques, such as Euclidean distance and Edit Distance on Real sequence, in extracting spatiotemporal-independent motion patterns and quantifying uncertainty. This study provides a novel and effective approach for trajectory feature extraction and uncertainty quantification, with wide-ranging applications in fields such as meteorological simulation and air pollution propagation path analysis. © 2024 Ke Ren, Chengyao Jin, Yuxuan Song, Yang Xu and Huijie Zhang, published by Sciendo.

Local rough set models are efficient rough data analysis methods for weakly labeled data in the rough set field. However, the existing local models do not distinguish the importance of different attributes to decisions when describing and defining binary relations, resulting in inaccurate information granules or classes, which affects the accuracy of concept approximation. In this paper, we choose local neighborhood rough sets as the representative model, and then propose Local Weighted Neighborhood Rough Sets (LWNRS). First, the importance of attributes to decisions is quantified by combining the supervised information of labeled data and the structural information of unlabeled data, and an attribute weighted method based on semi-supervised dynamic optimization is proposed. Meanwhile, the weighted neighborhood relation and neighborhood classes of objects are defined under weakly labeled data, and the WLNRS model is constructed. In addition, the weighted dependency is proposed to measure the data uncertainty, and the relationships among WLNRS and other relevant local and global models are deeply explored. Finally, the efficiency and accuracy of WLNRS in concept approximation are verified by comparison.

Fruit quality prediction plays a vital role in agricultural and food industries, ensuring that only high-quality produce reaches the consumer. Traditional methods of assessing fruit quality rely on manual inspection, which is both time-consuming and prone to human error. This paper presents a robust methodology for fruit quality prediction and estimation, utilizing a hybrid deep learning model that integrates DenseN et for feature extraction with LightGBM for efficient classification. The proposed model is designed to automate the process of fruit quality assessment by analyzing key attributes such as color, texture, and shape from high-resolution fruit images. The Fruit360 dataset was used for training and testing, with images classified into categories such as fresh, ripe, overripe, and damaged. A comprehensive comparison with nine existing models, including SVM, Random Forest, and XGBoost, was conducted using performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and Fl-score. The proposed model achieved an accuracy of 96.78%, significantly outperforming all other models. Furthermore, the model's precision and recall reached 95.33% and 95.67%, respectively, demonstrating its reliability in distinguishing high-quality fruits from low-quality ones. © 2024 IEEE.

Among the most prominent causes for visual impairment, especially among older adults, is cataract. As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), there are 2.2 billion individuals globally are estimated to be blind or possess an eyesight problem. One of the most identified and important causes of this is cataracts. Cataracts should be identified and treated as soon as possible to avoid blindness. Ophthalmologists use an expensive slit lamp to diagnose cataracts in regions with few medical facilities. Consequently, the issue is that a lack of skilled ophthalmologists may delay the identification of cataracts, for which medical treatment is unavoidable. Medical image analysis based on artificial intelligence provides a rapid and precise diagnosis in modern healthcare. We utilized deep learning models based on transfer learning, namely VGG19, and ResNet-50, to diagnose cataracts using fundus images and enhance classification accuracy. The performance metric for the model is accuracy;the highest achieved accuracy was 98%. © 2023 IEEE.

YOLO has become a central real-time object detection system for robotics, driverless cars, and video monitoring applications. Developing a custom object detection solution that can detect specific objects in real-time video streams has the potential to revolutionize various fields and has been the subject of extensive research. Although there have been advances in object detection, there is still a gap in the research for real-time detection of custom objects with high accuracy and speed. This research addresses this gap by training a YOLOv8 detector on a custom dataset of objects and evaluating its performance on real-time video streams which is by far the latest model and thus is faster and more accurate. Our experimental results demonstrate that our custom-trained YOLOv8 detector achieves high accuracy and real-time performance on a custom dataset of objects. The detector achieved an overall mAP50 of 0.864 and a mAP50-95 of 0.758, with individual class results ranging from 0.47 to 0.995. These findings show that custom training data and YOLOv8 are effective in real-time object detection, which has practical applications in various fields. The significance of the results and our contribution lies in demonstrating the effectiveness of custom training data for improving object detection accuracy and speed using YOLO, which has implications for a wide range of real-world applications. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays, with the ever-growing advancement in neural networks, many of today's needs have been resolved. However, the processing speed of neural network applications might be challenging and take too long to execute. This is especially true for real-time and embedded systems, which must guarantee a response within limited time constraints. It is relatively straightforward to observe the blurred line between the real-time system and biologically inspired applications. For instance, the bio-SFA algorithm learns slow-varying features by inspiration from the human brain, and the bio-NICA algorithm, a biologically plausible neural network for non-negative independent component analysis, separates mixtures of unknown signals into their distinct sources by understanding how the brain solves blind source separation. These algorithms stem from the human brain's functionality;therefore, the processing speed should be reasonable. In this work, we will leverage the high capability of hardware performance by using field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) to accelerate both the bio-SFA and bio-NICA algorithms. We have compared our approach with a software implementation running on two popular embedded boards' processors, ARM Cortex-A53 SoC and ARM Cortex-A72. We have run the standard algorithm on both boards and calculated the number of cycles it takes. Generally, the designed accelerator performs around 38x speedup for Bio-SFA and 4x speedup for Bio-NICA over Cortex-A53. Similarly, compared to Cortex-A72, it achieves 9x speedup for Bio-SFA and 2x for Bio-NICA. Moreover, the accelerator consumes only 0.34 Watts for Bio-SFA and 0.85 Watts for Bio-NICA of power. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Despite the significance of music genre classification in audio identification, it remains under-explored within AI research. This tool is crucial for personalized music recommendations and similar music detection. We have developed an efficient AI model that leverages Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), offering high-precision genre identification when integrated into a graphical user interface. The model effectively extracts audio features like Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs), zero-crossing rate, and tempo. Testing results reveal strong performance in genre prediction across diverse tracks, affirming the model's ability to discern unique characteristics of various music genres. This performance not only attests to the model's capability in discerning the unique characteristics inherent to different music genres but also suggests that it can effectively generalize to novel, unseen data. Our model lays the groundwork for future enhancements and demonstrates the potential of AI in transforming the music industry - from personalized music playlists to exploratory recommendation systems. The success of this model paves the way for more intricate applications of AI within music analysis. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the ever increasing usage of multimedia content sharing and the inherent nature of the insecure links used for transmission, it is quite necessary to provide a fast and secure encryption algorithm. Current symmetric ciphers possess properties that may reveal some content of the plaintext images, especially when a block cipher is used without any chaining. Chaotic encryption has been proposed to allow for hiding inherent properties of the images and to generate almost uniform histograms of the cipher image (i.e.;hiding any visual properties). To that end, we propose the use of hardware to implement chaos-based ciphers for faster execution time. The results of this work show that such an implementation is feasible, and even favorable, when compared to software-based image encryption. © 2023 IEEE.
