Group Anomaly Detection: Past Notions, Present Insights, and Future Prospects

Anomaly detection has evolved as a successful research subject in the areas such as bibliometrics, informatics and computer networks including security-based and social networks. Almost all existing anomaly detection techniques have some limitations and do not focus specifically on detecting anomalous groups. Anomaly detection is also a crucial problem in processing large-scale datasets when our goal is to find abnormal values or unusual events. The authors decided to survey existing group anomaly detection techniques because there is a need to consider group anomalies for mitigation of risks, prevention of malicious collaborative activities, and other interesting explanatory insights by identifying groups that are not consistent with regular group patterns. In this research, we bifurcated group anomaly detection techniques into activity-based and graph-based methods. The graphical methodologies are then further classified under static versus dynamic and attributed versus plain graph methods. We have also listed the datasets used in various studies to detect group anomalies along with detected anomalies and the various performance measures used to validate the results. Towards the end, we have provided various applications of group anomaly detection and the research challenges that group anomaly detection presents to the scientific community and enlisted some of the future trends for this particular research area. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Architecting Digital Twins for Intelligent Transportation Systems

Modern transportation systems face growing challenges in managing traffic flow, ensuring safety, and maintaining operational efficiency amid dynamic traffic patterns. Addressing these challenges requires intelligent solutions capable of real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and adaptive control. This paper proposes an architecture for DigIT, a Digital Twin (DT) platform for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), designed to overcome the limitations of existing frameworks by offering a modular and scalable solution for traffic management. Built on a Domain Concept Model (DCM), the architecture systematically models key ITS components enabling seamless integration of predictive modeling and simulations. The architecture leverages machine learning models to forecast traffic patterns based on historical and real-time data. To adapt to evolving traffic patterns, the architecture incorporates adaptive Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), automating the deployment and lifecycle management of predictive models. Essential proteins play an essential role in cell survival and replication. Currently, more and more computational methods are developed to identify essential proteins, which overcome the time-consuming, costly and inefficient shortcomings with biological experimental methods. In order to improve the recognition rate, some new methods by fusing multiple features are developed, but they seldom consider the connection among features. After analyzing a large number of methods based on multi-feature fusion, a weak consensus model to fuse features is proposed in this paper. Then, this paper uses the weak consensus model to fuse protein-protein interaction network, gene expression data, and orthologous data, thus proposing a new method, WOL. Then experiments are performed on one *** dataset. The results show that compared with WDC, PeC, ION, JDC, NCCO and E_POC, WOL has a higher recognition rate. © 2023 IEEE.

Recent breakthroughs in computer vision have led to the invention of several intelligent systems in different sectors. In transportation, this advancement led to the possibility of proposing autonomous vehicles. This recent technology relies heavily on wireless sensors and Deep learning. For an autonomous vehicle to navigate safely on highways, the vehicle needs equipment to aid with detecting road anomalies such as potholes ahead of time. The massive improvement in computer vision models such as Deep Convolutional Neural networks (DCNN) or vision transformers (ViT) resulted in many success stories and tremendous breakthroughs in object detection tasks;this enabled the use of such models in different application areas. But many of the reported results are theoretical and unrealistic in real-life. Usually, the nature of these models is extensive;they are trained on High-performance computers or cloud computing environments with GPUs, which challenge their usage on edge devices. However, to come up with a light model that can fit into embedded devices, the model size has to be reduced significantly so that the performance will not be affected. Therefore, this paper proposes a lightweight model of pothole detection for an embedded device. The model achieved a state-of-the-art accuracy of 98%, with the number of parameters reduced to more than 70% compared with a deep CNN model;the model can be trained and deployed on embedded devices such as smartphones efficiently. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press. These days, a lot of towns struggle with traffic jams during peak hours, which increment contamination, commotion, and feelings of anxiety for the general population. Because neural networks (NN) and machine learning (ML) techniques can handle large numbers of parameters in massive amounts of data and dynamic behaviour over time, they are replacing analytical and statistical methods in the solving of real-world problems. This research presents a convergence of machine-learning (ML) and deep-learning (DL) calculations for traffic stream prediction;this paves the way for flexible traffic signals, which can be implemented through the use of a calculation that adjusts the timing in accordance with the anticipated traffic flow or by controlling traffic signals to some degree. The proposed ML and DL models are constructed, validated, and tested using two publicly accessible datasets. The first depicts the total number of cars subjected to checks using various sensors at six junctions over the course of 56 days. In this research, ML and DL models are created using data from four of the six junctions. The excellent performance metrics obtained by all ML and DL computations suggest that their application to intelligent traffic light management is feasible. © 2024 IEEE.

Test automation is crucial for agile software projects to enable frequent delivery of working software with cost and time and minimal bugs. However, selecting the right automated testing tool is considered challenging due to the wide range of such existing tools. Additionally, the challenges occur clearly due to several issues such as the programming code language, the categorization of the developed system, and the tester’s knowledge and skills. This paper aims to address this gap by proposing an evaluation framework for comparing and classifying the existing automated testing tools used in agile projects. The framework is developed based on an extensive literature review of existing agile testing methodologies and common commercial automation testing techniques. The key criteria for tool evaluation are identified to cover the main testing objective aspects such as test design support, testing interfaces, reporting capabilities, etc. These criteria are considered the core methodology for this study used to analyze and compare the popular open-source and commercial tools. The proposed evaluation framework provides agile practitioners with guidelines to assist in selecting the appropriate tools based on their specific project needs such as budget, timelines, and technical expertise. This study is considered a comparative evaluation of existing agile testing tools to highlight their key strengths and limitations. The findings of this study categorized the testing tools based on the interface, code, design, and report features. This research contributes to assisting the project developer and tester in selecting suitable tools for the adoption of automated testing tools in their agile software projects. It also identifies the direction for future work, such as integrations with modern development methodologies and technologies.

We performed machine learning using spectrum analysis and power spectra of electroencephalograms (EEGs) of patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Spectrum analysis was performed on the EEGs of MCI patients and healthy individuals, and the power spectrum values of the two groups were calculated and compared. Based on the power spectrum values of the theta and alpha bands, models for discriminating MCI patients were created using a support vector machine (SVM), and their accuracies were compared. In the spectrum analysis, the theta band showed significantly higher power spectrum values in the MCI group. In the comparison of the accuracies of SVM models, the model using the theta band showed higher values in parameters, such as accuracy rate. These results suggested that the power spectrum values of the theta band are useful for discriminating MCI patients. © 2024 IEEE.

The service delivery has lately witnessed strides in the form of paradigm shifts from conventional logistics to drone-oriented supply chain to conserve ecosystem. The use of drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for package deliveries offer enhanced accessibility, flexibility, efficiency, speed, safety, and even few environmental gains. However, the drones can come across various security hazards while communicating with ground installations on open channels including physical capture attack, privacy infringement, and so on. Thus, earnest endeavors are needed to fix those security challenges in applications related to drone communications. To address these problems, an efficient authenticated key agreement technique, drone access control scheme for last mile delivery (DAC-MD) is suggested for user-drone interactions in IoD environment that help the participating entities in developing a mutually agreed session key for securing subsequent communication interactions. The proposed scheme is proved using automated ProVerif tool as well as analyzed by using formal analysis based on RoR random oracle model. The comparative analysis against recently presented known studies reveals that our scheme not only carries comparable properties in terms of security and privacy, but also low computational and communication costs. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Tools for Refactoring to Microservices: A Preliminary Usability Report

While Microservices are a preferred choice for modern cloud-based applications, the migration and architectural refactoring of existing legacy systems is still a major challenge in industry. To address this, academia has proposed many strategies and approaches that aim to automate the process of decomposing a monolith into functional units. In this study, we review existing migration approaches regarding techniques used and tool support. From 91 publications, we extracted 22 tools, 7 of which address service decomposition. To assess them from an end-user perspective, we investigated their underlying techniques, installation, documentation, usability and support. For 5 of them, we generated service cuts using reference applications. The results of our preliminary work suggest that the inspected tools pursue promising concepts, but lack maturity and generalizability for reliable use by industry. © 2023, CC BY.

ChatGPT is a powerful chatbot that used to generate human-like text. Chat GPT, developed by OpenAI, can answer many questions honestly, like a personal teacher who knows almost everything. It can perform various tasks such as question and answer, solving mathematical equations, writing text, debugging, and translating between languages. Compared to traditional chatbots, ChatGPT has been adopted by many users since its introduction. Some users feel that ChatGPT will override most content creation professions. This study analyzed users’ feelings about ChatGPT by analyzing tweets shared about ChatGPT. For this purpose, a hybrid Deep Learning (DL) model was developed using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Bi- Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) models. The study has been compared with a number of DL and Machine Learning algorithms, LSTM, Bi-LSTM, CNN, Gated Recurrent Unit, Random Forests and Support Vector Machines. The experimental outcomes demonstrated that, the FastText-trained CNN-Bi-LSTM model exceeded the other models in terms of accuracy, reaching 96.59%. © 2024 The Authors
