Optimization problems widely arise in various science and engineering fields and can be computationally expensive in many real-world applications. Evaluation of the fitness function to assess a candidate solution is the main operation in all optimization procedures which can be heavily compute-intensive. Machine learning-based surrogate models can contribute to learning the specific pattern among the decision variables and objective values to consequently reduce the computation time of fitness evaluation. In this study, we have proposed a novel pairwise surrogate model to identify the superiority between candidate solutions in a pairwise comparison despite the fact that most of the surrogate models try to predict the exact fitness value. The proposed idea can significantly help the optimizer to reach better results in a shorter period of time. It seems comparing two candidate solutions for a greedy selection is much easier than approximating fitness values for both. We demonstrated Graph Neural Network (GNN) for this purpose to be trained on a limited number of pairwise ranks and then utilized to compare a pair of candidate solutions. In order to examine the efficacy of our model, we utilized different well-known single-objective optimization benchmarks in dimensions 10,20, and 30. Moreover, the results of the learning-based evaluation are compared with the results from the real fitness evaluation. The results, assessed in terms of the number of fitness calls and the best-found solution, showed that the proposed method is able to decrease the computing cost of fitness evaluation significantly while we achieve a comparable solution. Our model can be tested with any optimization algorithm which employs a comparison-based mechanism among its candidate solutions.

Most existing multi-view graph clustering models focus on integrating the topological structure of different views directly, which cannot efficiently stimulate the collaboration between multiple views. To alleviate this problem, this paper proposes a Triangle Topology Enhancement (T2E) module, which expands two topological structures based on the raw topology of each view, including the self-triangle enhanced topology that highlights the local view information and the cross-view triangle enhanced topology containing the global-local view information. Afterward, this paper designs a novel multi-view graph clustering model, named MGC-T2E, to integrate both the raw and derived topological structures and directly induce consistent clustering indicators based on a self-supervised clustering module. In the simulation, the experimental results demonstrate that MGC-T2E achieves state-of-the-art performances compared with a mass of current competitors. © 1989-2012 IEEE.

Character, Word, or Both? Revisiting the Segmentation Granularity for Chinese Pre-trained Language Models

Pretrained language models (PLMs) have shown marvelous improvements across various NLP tasks. Most Chinese PLMs simply treat an input text as a sequence of characters, and completely ignore word information. Although Whole Word Masking can alleviate this, the semantics in words is still not well represented. In this paper, we revisit the segmentation granularity of Chinese PLMs. We propose a mixed-granularity Chinese BERT (MigBERT) by considering both characters and words. To achieve this, we design objective functions for learning both character and word-level representations. We conduct extensive experiments on various Chinese NLP tasks to evaluate existing PLMs as well as the proposed MigBERT. Experimental results show that MigBERT achieves new SOTA performance on all these tasks. Further analysis demonstrates that words are semantically richer than characters. In the current era of chatbots, this research delves into the advancements in AI chatbots, drawing on artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to mimic human-like conversations. A particular focus is given to the potential of chatbots in facilitating multitasking dialogues, offering emotional support, and addressing complex subject matter, all the while respecting user privacy and trust. The implemented chatbot model is trained on a neural network, using Keras and TensorFlow libraries. This model’s performance indicates a considerable dependence on the dataset’s size, with larger datasets leading to better outcomes by providing more extensive language usage and context examples. Additionally, we also analyze the effect of varying architectures and hyperparameters on chatbot performance. The significance of localizing chatbots to adapt to different languages and cultures is also highlighted. While promising, the study identifies areas of improvement, suggesting future research directions in enhancing language capture techniques, expanding training datasets, and integrating emotional intelligence within chatbot systems.

The immune system plays a crucial role in defending the body against diseases, making it vital to develop models that can accurately predict immune system strength. This study presents an Enhanced Deep Learning Strategy (EDLS) designed to predict immune system strength based on immune-related biomarkers such as White Blood Cell (WBC) count and Immunoglobulins. A dataset consisting of 23,654 records with 12 features was collected from clinical sources. The data underwent comprehensive preprocessing, including noise reduction using a Median Filter, feature selection with Random Forest, and data fusion using Kalman Filters. The EDLS model integrates AutoEncoder for dimensionality reduction and Cascaded Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for capturing temporal dependencies. The proposed model outperforms nine traditional and advanced machine learning models, including Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), with an accuracy of 94.72%. Evaluation metrics such as Precision (92.01%), Recall (93.77 % ), and F1-Score (92.88 % ) highlight the model's effectiveness in predicting immune system strength. Feature importance analysis reveals that WBC count and Immunoglobulins are the most influential predictors. This study demonstrates the potential of EDLS for enhancing immune strength prediction, which can have significant implications for personalized healthcare and disease prevention.

Fostering crop health is vital for global food security, underscoring the need for effective disease detection. This research introduces an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) model designed to enhance the detection and diagnosis of diseases in tomato plants, particularly focusing on Early Blight and Late Blight. Significantly, our model leverages cutting-edge image processing techniques to improve disease detection efficiency, outperforming traditional methods in terms of speed and accuracy. Our results demonstrate an impressive model accuracy of 92.58% on training data and 86.83% on validation data, showing the effectiveness of AI in diagnosing plant diseases. These high accuracy rates underline the potential of our model for timely disease classification, allowing for immediate and appropriate interventions. However, our research also identified a potential overfitting problem in the model’s performance. To address this, we propose using regularization and data augmentation techniques to enhance the model’s generalizability on unseen data. Additionally, we delve into inherent challenges that plague AI-based plant disease detection, such as the scarcity of diverse datasets and the difficulty of achieving broad generalizability across different plant species. In identifying potential solutions for these issues, our research lays the groundwork for the wider and more practical implementation of AI technologies in agriculture.

The field of Neural Machine Translation (NMT) has shown impressive performance for quick and easy communication in various languages spoken all over the world. NMT helps us by improving communication between different languages. For this purpose, different sequential models are used such as Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Long Short Term Memory (LSTM), and Gated Recurrent Units (GRU). Analysis among these different models are important for making language translation better and choose the best model for the right job. This research investigates the performance of these models on two distinct language datasets, English-to-German and English-to-Urdu. Based on accuracy metrics, the findings reveal that GRU having test accuracy (88.22% ) outperforms RNN (87.21% ), and LSTM (85.70% )demonstrating the highest translation accuracy, followed by RNN and LSTM exhibiting comparatively lower accuracy levels.

Robotic search and rescue (SAR) supports response teams by accelerating disaster assessment and by keeping operators away from hazardous environments. In the event of a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) disaster, robots are deployed to identify and locate radiation sources. Human responders then assess the situation and neutralize the danger. The presented system takes a step toward enhanced integration of robots into SAR teams. Integrating autonomous radiation mapping with semi-autonomous substance sampling and online analysis of the CBRN threat lets the human operator localize and assess the threat from a safe distance. Two LiDARs, an IMU, and a Geiger counter are used for mapping the surrounding area and localizing potential radiation sources. A mobile manipulator with six Degrees of Freedom manipulates valves and samples substances that are analyzed by an onboard Raman spectrometer. The human operator monitors the mission’s progression from a remote location defining target locations and directing the semi-autonomous manipulation processes. Diverse recovery behaviours aid robot deployment, system state monitoring, as well as recovery of hard- and software. Field tests showcase the capabilities of the presented system during trials at the CBRN disaster response challenge European Robotics Hackathon (EnRicH). Due to its simplicity of usage across a variety of applications, the K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm is usually utilized as a classification approach. The K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm's accuracy is greatly impacted by the occurrence of multidimensional and outlier data. This research uses a novel hybrid technique known as Particle Optimized Scored K-Nearest Neighbor (POSKNN) to build a model to predict the emergence of dental fluorosis. The proposed novel approach is implemented in two phases: the first phase helps in the resolution of multidimensional data by performing selection of feature using the Modified Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm, and the second phase helps in the resolution of the presence of outliers by making use of the results of the first phase and applying the newly proposed scored KNN technique to them. The suggested approach was tested using a real-world dataset acquired from three dentistry clinics in Egypt's El Baharia Oasis, which has 56 attributes, two classes, and 328 records. 10-fold cross validation was implemented to the model. The experimental evaluation was divided into two parts; evaluation for modified particle swarm optimization, evaluation for scored K nearest neighbor, and the hybrid particle optimized scored K nearest neighbor. The experiment’s results demonstrated that the suggested approach outperformed the traditional KNN and the modified KNN. POSKNN achieved an accuracy of 94.5% when K value is 11.

The advent of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has revolutionized manufacturing and production systems, enhancing efficiency and communication through the integration of advanced technologies such as IoT devices and AI. However, this increased digitization has also led to heightened cybersecurity risks, with a notable rise in the frequency and complexity of cyber-attacks. Cyber Ranges emerges as a critical solution in addressing these challenges, offering a controlled environment for simulating cyber-attack scenarios, training cybersecurity teams, and developing robust defense strategies. The escalating demand for cybersecurity professionals has highlighted the crucial need for effective training solutions. This article presents an open-source Cyber Range constructed on container-based architecture, meticulously engineered for efficient operation with minimal resource consumption. In response to the scarcity of cybersecurity experts, this platform prioritizes extensive scalability and robust isolation between exercises, ensuring secure learning environments, and also integrates a complex developed exercise series aimed at strengthening cybersecurity learning experiences. These exercises encompass a variety of scenarios and challenges, catering to professionals at different skill levels. Each exercise replicates real-world cyber threats, offering practical, hands-on learning opportunities. Additionally, a comprehensive questionnaire accompanies these exercises, designed to gather feedback on participants' experiences.
