This paper proposes an intelligentdiagnosis method for plant machinery using wavelettransform (WT) genetic programming (GP) andpossibility theory. The WT is used to extract featurespectra of each machine state from measured vibrationsignal for distinguishing faults. Excellent symptomparameters (SP) for detecting fault states areautomatically generated by GP. The membershipfunctions of symptom parameters will be establishedusing possibility theory for resolving the ambiguousdiagnosis problems. The methods proposed in thispaper are verified by applying them to the faultdiagnosis of gear equipment.
