The prerequisite for new versatile grippers is the capability to locate and perceive protests in their surroundings. It is realized that automated controllers are profoundly nonlinear frameworks, and a faultless numerical model is hard to get, in this way making it troublesome to control utilizing tried and true procedure. Here, a design of an adaptive compliant gripper is presented. This design of the gripper has embedded sensors as part of its structure. The use of embedded sensors in a robot gripper gives the control system the ability to control input displacement of the gripper and to recognize specific shapes of the grasping objects. Since the conventional control strategy is a very challenging task, soft computing based controllers are considered as potential candidates for such an application. In this study, the polynomial and radial basis function (RBF) are applied as the kernel function of Support Vector Regression (SVR) to estimate and predict optimal inputs displacement of the gripper according to experimental tests and shapes of grasping objects. Instead of minimizing the observed training error, SVR poly and SVR rbf attempt to minimize the generalization error bound so as to achieve generalized performance. The experimental results show that an improvement in predictive accuracy and capability of generalization can be achieved by the SVR approach compared to other soft computing methodology.

In this paper a problem of fingerprint-based biometric technique for the use in cases when the fingertips surface has been seriously damaged, making it impossible or extremely difficult to form a conventional reference pattern, is addressed. The optical coherence tomography (OCT) is considered as a method to acquire data enabling later reconstruction of the fingerprint pattern from the internal (mother) layer. A set of two procedures: the first converting the 3-dimensional data resulting from the OCT to the 2-dimensional raw fingerprint image and the second adapting this image to input data for simple, standard fingerprint recognition algorithms, are described. Both procedures make up a complete preprocessing tool. The data set consisted of 149 B-scans forming a 3-dimensional structure describing the surface and shallow internal layer of a part of a fingertip of a person with considerably damaged fingertip surface, making the recognition of the fingerprint with direct method impossible. The obtained results prove that the OCT technique can be efficiently used to solve the considered problem, and that the proposed algorithms form a tool that can be useful for larger databases.

The need to search for a particular image(s) of interest from an image database or unstructured image collection has led to the search of effective image retrieval systems. To achieve this, there is need to find segmentation, representation and similarity matching algorithms that work in harmony. This study looked at the non-parametric techniques in image retrieval system. The effectiveness of Epanechnikov, Gaussian and Histogram non-parametric algorithms were compared in a generic image retrieval system. The Chan & Vese and Cosine Angle Distance algorithms were used for segmentation and similarity matching respectively. The performance of the non-parametric techniques was measured using recallprecision curve and the Bull's Eye performance score. The estimating techniques performed better than the absolute value technique. The study then looked at the limitations of these techniques.

Double- and triple-walled carbon nanotubes are studied in detail by laser energy-dependent Raman spectroscopy in order to get a deeper understanding about the second-order G′ band Raman process, general nanotube properties, such as electronic and vibrational properties, and the growth method itself. In this work, the inner nanotubes from the double- and triple-walled carbon nanotubes are produced through the encapsulation of fullerene peapods with high-temperature thermal treatments. We find that the spectral features of the G′ band, such as the intensity, frequency, linewidth, and line shape are highly sensitive to the annealing temperature variations. We also discuss the triple-peak structure of the G′ band observed in an individual triple-walled carbon nanotube taken at several laser energies connecting its Raman spectra with that for the G′ band spectra obtained for bundled triple-walled carbon nanotubes.

Objective:To investigate and compare the resistance and sensitivity of Salmonella typhi samples to commonly used antibiotics in three major divisions of Bangladesh and to evaluate the gradually developing resistance ***:The antibiotic susceptibility of 70 clinical isolates collected from blood,sputum,urine and pus samples were identified by specific antisera and with standard biochemical *** patients were divided into 5 age *** and resistance was also tested by KirbyBauer disc-diffusion method using 12 regularly used ***:Antibiotic susceptibility test demonstrated that 64.28%isolates of Salmonella typhi were multidrug *** study suggests that the clinical samples were mostly resistant against nalidixic acid with all age groups and in all three divisions with similar resistance *** is more common among adult people(30-40 years)and children(0-10 years).Salmonella typhi was mostly sensitive against gentamycin,chloramphenicol and ***:Although the population density of Dhaka region is markedly higher than Rajshahi and Chittagong regions,no significant difference in resistance pattern was *** rate of multidrug resistance is a matter of *** should reconsider before prescribing nalidixic acid and *** molecular study is needed to reveal the genomic and proteomic basis of resistance.

The aim of this study is to increase the friction coefficient between C/C composites at low temperature to moderate the dependence of the frictional coefficient on the temperature condition. In this study, micro-sized glass fibers were introduced to precursor resin for the C/C composite. The preform plate was prepared by filament winding method. The precursor was carbonized by being exposed at the maximum temperature of 2200 °C. To investigate temperature dependence of the friction coefficient, friction test was carried out while test temperature was changed. The result showed it was effective to apply micro-sized glass fibers to be stabile the coefficient of friction between C/C composites. The XRD indicated that SiC was synthesized in the body of fabricated C/C composite. Due to the scratching with prevention of formation of large-sized particles, the frictional force was improved even when the friction was applied at low temperature by the modification of C/C composite.

This paper describes the effects of distributed generation on electric power systems. Distributed generation is a term that refers to the production of electricity near the consumption place. The effects of distributed generation are: short circuit levels are increased, load losses change, voltage profiles change along the network, voltage transients will appear, congestions can appear in system branches, power quality and reliability may be affected and the networks protections may not function properly. A load flow analysis is done for the IEEE 14 system in which a distributed generator is added, that is on-grid or off-grid.

This paper describes the main technologies used for distributed generation and the optimization of a system that contains these technologies. The term distributed generation refers to the production of electricity near the consumption place. The distributed generation resources are renewable energies and cogeneration (simultaneous production of heat and electricity). Renewable energy is energy from natural resources such as wind, sunlight, tides, waves, geothermal heat and biomass. The optimization aims to minimize the electricity production costs ensuring that the load is served reliably.

Tsunamis pose a great threat to coastal infrastructures. Bridges without adequate provisions for earthquake and tsunami loading generally are vulnerable when a tsunami occurs. During the last two disastrous tsunami events (i.e., the tsunami in the Indian Ocean and the tsunami that struck Japan), many bridges were damaged by the waves created by the tsunamis. In this paper, in order to address this crucial problem, we used soft computing techniques to design and develop a process that simulates the effects of perforations in the girders of bridges on reducing the forces applied on the bridge when a tsunami occurs. Soft computing methods have very good learning and prediction capabilities, which make it an effective tool for dealing with the uncertainties encountered when waves are generated by a tsunami. Laboratory experiments were conducted to acquire a better understanding of the effects of the factors involved and to check the data required for the soft computing methods. In order to predict the effects of perforations in the girder of a bridge on force reduction, novel intelligent soft computing schemes, support vector regression (SVR), and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) were investigated. In this study, the polynomial, linear, and radial basis function were used as the kernel function of the SVR to estimate the effects of perforations in a girder of a bridge. The performances of the proposed estimators were confirmed by simulation results. The SVR results were compared with the ANFIS results, and we observed that an improvement in predictive accuracy and the ability to generalize were achieved by the ANFIS approach.

Lab-on-CMOS chips (LOCMOS) are sophisticated miniaturized analysis tools based on integrated circuit (IC) microchips performing various laboratory functions. We have developed a low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) package for a LOCMOS application regarding cytotoxicity assessment of nanomaterials. The LTCC packaged capacitance sensor chip is designed for long-term cell viability monitoring during nanoparticle exposure. The introduced LTCC package utilizes the flip chip bonding technique, and it is biocompatible as well as able to withstand the environmental conditions required to maintain mammalian cell culture directly on the surface of a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuit.
