In this paper, we propose a checking algorithm for dynamic constraint validation during XML updates. Our algorithm is targeted at single transition constraint, which is affected by single node updating. To the best of our knowledge, almost all constraints that have been preserved in the previous XML updates works are for static constraints. On the other hand, dynamic constraints restrict the transition of data from a current state into a new state. The operations that can affect these constraints involve node replacement, value of element and attribute replacement, and insert-delete pairing operations of nodes and their values. We propose a lightweight XML file to store only required data for the validation, i.e. states that need to be changed are extracted from XQuery and original XML documents. For experimentation purposes, we apply the algorithm in Java platform with the support of Schematron for the dynamic constraint and BaseX for parsing XQuery statements. The analysis shows our algorithm performs in cubic growth while still in polynomial efficiency. Nevertheless, our proposed dynamic constraint file is not minimal enough if the query involves indirect states transitions caused by sub queries. We would like to continue and extend the work with more types of dynamic constraint.

In this paper, a novel profilograph has been designed and implemented to generate virtual terrain. Profilograph is necessary for civil engineering applications to map pavement smoothness. Traditional profilographs are big in size and take long time for mapping, although they are capable of generating pavement map but unable to show 3D graph. The profilograph proposed in this paper is able to map pavement smoothness faster as well as show 3D graphs of the pavement. This profilograph consists of two subsystems. The first subsystem is a hardware system designed using rate gyros and accelerometers with some wireless communicating module. Another subsystem is the software system developed using OpenGL with supported of C++ and Visual Basic. This software can be connected with the hardware system either using wire or using wireless. The hardware system while driven on the pavement stores the data of the terrain into the database. The software generates 3D graphs of the navigated terrain. This profilograph can be used not only in civil engineering pavement mapping but also in mapping disaster scenario for disaster rescue missions.

Image segmentation is the most important step and a key technology in image processing which directly affect the next processing. In human blood cell segmentation cases, many methods were applied for obtaining better results. It is basically an improved visualization to observe blood cell under blood smear process. This paper will present an approach for red blood cell (RBC) segmentation which is a part of study to perform automated counting for RBC. The methods involve are Ycbcr color conversion, masking, morphological operators and watershed algorithm. The combination of Ycbcr color conversion and morphological operator produce segmented white blood cell (WBC) nucleus. Then it is being used as a mask to remove WBC from the blood cell image. Morphological operators involve binary erosion diminish small object like platelet. The resulted RBC segmentation is passing through marker controlled watershed algorithm which handles overlapping cells. The improvement need to be done for both segmentation and overlapped cell handling to obtain better result in the future.

The use of Light Emitting Diode (LED) as the lighting device becomes popular due to its energy-efficient characteristic. However, LED has radiation angle that is relatively smaller than other types of lighting device. This results in heterogeneity of light intensity that received by particular point near the LED. To obtain homogeneity of light intensity, this paper proposes a model of fuzzy logic control system to control illumination of LEDs lamp in a room. This model involves several components, namely LEDs lamp, LED driver, illumination sensor, microcontroller, and a differential transceiver RS-485. The fuzzy logic control system that used in this model uses error of illumination and delta error of illumination as input parameter. As output, this control system will change duty cycle of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) that used to control illumination of LEDs lamp. Based on experiment result, when expected light intensity is set to 150 Lux, homogeneity of light intensity can be achieved with error less than 2%. In addition, the control system also can reduce energy consumption up to 40% under the experimental environment.

Image denoising and segmentation are the two most challenging fields in medical image processing particularly when it is application specific. The presence of noise not only degrades the visual quality but also immensely affects the accuracies of segmentation which is essential for medical diagnosis process. In this paper, we present an improved approach for denoising and segmentation of 2-D magnetic resonance brain images for detecting the tumor. We use fourth order partial differential equation based technique for removing MRI noises and thereby applied segmentation using automatic seeded region growing algorithm for detecting brain tumor automatically. The contribution of this work is the use of compass operator to preserve the anatomically significant information at the edges and a new morphological technique for skull removal from the brain MRI image which leads to the process of detecting tumor accurately. The method is tested on several real brain MRI images and it shows 100% success in detecting tumor automatically.
