This paper presents a common interface for Prolog to three different types of discrete solvers including Constraint Programming (CP), Integer Programming (IP), and SAT solvers. The interface comprises primitives for creating decision variables, specifying constraints, and invoking a solver, possibly with an objective function to be optimized. Before a solver is actually called, the accumulated variables and constraints are transformed into a form acceptable to the solver. For a SAT solver, in particular, variables are Booleanized and constraints are compiled into CNF. Implemented in B-Prolog, the interface allows the programmer to use the features of the host language such as recursion, pattern matching, arrays, and loops to describe problems. The interface provides an easy and uniform platform for exploring different solvers and models. This paper compares the performance of the CLP(FD) of B-Prolog, the CPLEX IP solver, and the Lingeling SAT solver on several problems through the same interface and for each problem it compares a model that uses Boolean variables and another model that uses general integer variables. Our experience tells that it is effortless to switch from one solver to another.

As computer graphics continue to progress, there is an increasingly large number of 3D models available on the internet. However, most of these models are static, with a rigid shape and fixed pose. Only a few models can be animated with restricted motion, which is generally produced by professional animators, or by using expensive motion capture equipment. Novice users generally have great difficulty trying to animate an arbitrarily static model without any motion data. In this paper, we propose an integrated animation system which aims to animate bipedal or quadrupedal 3D models. To achieve this, we began by developing a video-based motion database with several animal groups of biological classification. Each group consists of close genera and families which have similar features. In addition, for each group, there is an articulated standard skeleton with pre-designed cyclic motion patterns. Through a hierarchical graphical interface, users can select different motion pattern candidates from a biologically classified tree structure. The selected motion pattern is then applied to this model to automatically synthesize realistic bipedal or quadrupedal motion.

This paper describes an automated algorithm for shadow region detection in Intra Vascular Ultrasound images, using an adaptive threshold method for threshold selection and contour approach for border detection. As shadow appears behind the calcification plaque, it makes it difficult or impossible for the dark region to process automatically around these regions. The acoustic shadow usually follows the hard plaque in IVUS images and it can distinguish calcification regions from other bright regions. Therefore we propose to use Otsu. Threshold for calcification plaque segmentation and the Active contours without edge method for shadow region separation of the image. Results show that the proposed meth efficiently detected shadow regions even in complicated images. This proposed algorithm presented specificity of 86% and sensitivity of 93%.

Humans often greet one another using a handshake, a common gesture of friendship. In the case of a human and a robot, the robot can smoothly begin to communicate and coexist with humans without feelings of aversion in humans; if it generates a handshake motion that is emotionally acceptable to humans. Thus, we have proposed a handshake request motion model and a handshake respond motion model to generate a handshake approaching motion prior to actually shaking hands with the human. In the handshake request motion model, the robot stretches its hand out to a human to request a handshake. In the handshake respond motion model, the robot responds a handshake when the human requests a handshake. The effectiveness of these models is demonstrated by experiments using a handshake robot system which is fabricated based on the average size of a human arm. Therefore, in this paper, we develop a small-size handshake robot system that uses the handshake request motion model and the handshake respond motion model to generate a handshake approaching motion with a human. The effectiveness of the robot system is demonstrated by sensory evaluation. Furthermore, a handshake motion between robots is realized by using two small-size handshake robot systems which are adopted these models.

This paper suggest a different way to get telemetry and visualization data from unmanned vehicle. A simple system architecture called JOMS (JOystick Modified system) is proposed to get those data. With the help of joystick, RC controller and simulink toolbox from MATLAB, the information from unmanned vehicle that associated with rotary and moving principle could be translated into useful data from the unmanned vehicle. Here, potentiometer from the joystick that acts as a variable resistor has been modified. The signals from joystick that interfaced on simulink are processed with some applied mathematical calibration regarding the functionality for certain condition of unmanned vehicle. To verify, the system module has been integrated both on unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) and unmanned air vehicle (UAV) for testing. Moreover, 3D virtual model was developed to ease the unmanned vehicle operator. Finally JOMS, the system architecture proposed successfully suggest a different way to get telemetry and visualization data from unmanned vehicle.

Maintenance is crucial to ensure delivered software continues to meet its end users' evolving needs mainly among Web applications' users. Many approaches and tools have been developed for handling modification requests, of which is the first step of the change management process. However, they lack of functionality to facilitate end users to specify their requests. This limitation causes problems not only to the end users, but to the maintainers as well, who need to understand the requests thoroughly before making any changes. We propose a user-centered technique to support the maintenance process by managing and tracking the modification requests effectively. This paper reports the implementation of the proposed technique as a tool and includes its adoption on a Web application. Initial case study shows that the tool is able to support end users to specify their requests easily and quickly, and maintainers to handle the requests effectively.

In the recent years, Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) has become popular for video multicasting. Although peer-to-peer communication lets wireless nodes improves the functionality of the video streaming applications over WMNs, required level of Quality-of-Service (QoS) is one of the most important challenges in these systems. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce new or enhance existing techniques in order to increase QoS for providing better perceived video quality on receivers. In this paper, different loss recovery schemes in peer-to-peer live video streaming over wireless mesh networks are evaluated precisely. The obtained results show how the provided efficiency by each of these schemes can improve the level of the introduced QoS in peer-to-peer live video streaming over WMNs.

Path loss model is generally used to relate distance and signal strength in wireless applications. This has been widely implemented in ranging, localization, and location tracking systems. A range of extension models have been proposed to enhance the performance for various environments and applications. Nevertheless, path loss exponent remains its significance as the main factor in the model regardless of how the model is varied. Based on the nature as an exponent of the model, inaccurate path loss exponent amplifies the error if it is used to estimate distance from received signal strength. Therefore, measurement of accurate value for path loss exponent becomes very important as it directly influences the output of distance estimation. Researchers have been studying the methods of measuring accurate path loss exponent in various environments. Instead of emphasizing the calculation process, this paper focuses more on the allocation of transmitters and receivers, and the arrangement among them. From the results obtained from experiments, properly arranged transmitter and receiver nodes provides better estimation of the path loss exponent. Based on the results, this paper also proposes a suitable nodes arrangement scheme for path loss exponent estimation.

Workloads for embedded systems, such as smart phones and tablet computers, are increasing its complexity. Thus, they often have high performance processor. This is barrier to achieve green computing. Heterogeneous multi-core architectures are an solution for this problem because they can reduce wasting power when they are idle. In this study, we propose the efficient architecture of an operating system, so that the potential of heterogeneous multi-core architectures can be exploited. As a proof of concept, we implement a simulator of operating system. This paper describes the proposed architecture and the implementation of the simulator.

This paper suggests a substrate integrated waveguide in honeycomb structure consisting of a number of small holes (air-filled posts) drilled vertically and entirely through both plating-conductor layers of the substrate (HCSIW), and shows a design method of an SIW right-angle corner as an example of its applications. First, the propagation constant of an HCSIW is derived from the simulation results of a commercial em-simulator (HFSS), and then its effective dielectric constant (ε r eff ) and transmission loss are discussed. It is shown that the ε r eff is approximately determined from the ratio of all the cross-section area of the air-filled posts to the remainder dielectric one, and the transmission loss is comparable with that of a common SIW. Next, the SIW right-angle corner is designed by arranging appropriately honeycomb structure. Experimental verification for the designed right-angle corner is also shown.
