The paper presents a case report of the therapy by neurofeedback training of a chronic female schizophrenia outpatient. The purpose of the neurofeedback training was to enhance cognition, memory and behavioral performance. We used an intensive approach. All the training sessions were performed during 4 consecutive days. The results showed that the patient learnt to increase individual alpha amplitude and simultaneously decrease beta2 (20-30 Hz) amplitude at P4 site during active state over sessions. The individual alpha increased 74.73% and beta2 decreased 13.73%. The short term memory was enhanced after training. Her mood had positive change and her speech was much clearer than before. She started to associate the meaning of her life and illness. These results support that neurofeedback is not only a feasible therapy for schizophrenia but also positive results could be obtained using a much more intensive training sessions than the one reported in the literature.

The energy-based swing-up control for a rotational pendulum by controlling both the total mechanical energy and actuated arm has been addressed theoretically. In this study, we verify experimentally the exiting solution of the energy-based swing-up control for the rotational pendulum system developed by Quanser Inc. We show experimentally that the energy-based swing-up control is effective to swing-up the pendulum up to the upright position and drive the arm to a desired position. We discuss about and compare with another swing-up control method of controlling only the rotational kinetic energy of the pendulum.

Function Point Analysis (FPA) measurement method was proposed primarily to measure the functional size of management information systems. The method has been criticized as an inadequate method to measure the functional size of Real Time (RT) applications. Many extensions have been made to the original method to extend its applicability to size RT applications. The Common Software Measurement International Consortium (COSMIC) designed COSMIC function point measurement method to meet the requirement of measuring a wider scope of software domains, particularly, RT applications. This paper aims to derive a convertibility equation between the two methods for small-size RT applications. A systematic conversion approach was applied using two types of conversion (using the unadjusted FPA size and transaction functions size) using 13 small-size RT applications, considering the quality of requirements, via linear and non-linear regression models. The results show that RT applications have a varied functional size for processes, in which FPA method could not quantify it adequately, mainly because of the FPA weighting system tables and the inadequate representation of data files. Moreover, the results show that there is a significant correlation between the two methods, but the conversion factor is slightly larger than the previous studies, in which the conversion factor is more than 1. However, some limitations of FPA method rules relative to RT applications cast some doubts on the possibility to extend the conversion for larger applications size.

Functional Size Measurement (FSM) has been widely adopted by software organizations over the past years. In particular, Function Point Analysis (FPA) measurement method as the eldest and the most globally FSM method used. In the middle of 90s, COSMIC measurement method was designed to cover the limitations of previous FSM methods, and to size wider scope of application domains. COSMIC measurement method had received special attention due to its novelties and merits it offers. In this respect, many organizations have moved from using FPA to the COSMIC measurement method, mainly because FPA cannot size as many software project types as COSMIC. Since there have been many projects sized with FPA are available in various databases, researchers undertook to compare the Unadjusted FPA (UFP) size and COSMIC Function Point (CFP) size unit statistically, towards converting FPA data in to its corresponding value in CFP. In the literature, there is only one conversion model that converts the size at the level of Basic Functional Components (BFCs) between the two methods. This paper examines the accuracy of the conversion model that converts the size at the level of BFCs. Moreover, this paper presents a theoretical and probabilistic conversion model that converts the FPA transaction functions size to the most likely corresponding CFP size at the level of BFCs. The proposed model considers the primary intent and the processing logic forms of each FPA transaction function BFC, measurement best practices and COSMIC method rules. The proposed model has been validated using 14 industrial business applications. The model was found to adequately and high accurately convert all the projects tested precisely. The model might be useful for companies that are using both methods or planning to adopt the COSMIC method as a conversion or validation procedure.

This paper aims at further investigating the pinning impulsive control of complex dynamical networks. In detail, we introduce a novel approach for analyzing the synchronization stability of complex networks with impulsive signals. Moreover, we prove that one random selective impulsive controller can always pin a directed strongly connected complex network to its homogeneous solution under suitable coupling strength and impulsive signal. A simple example is then given to validate the above theoretical results.

This paper presents a slip ratio controller using sliding mode control for electric vehicle with parameter variations, which is important in obtaining desired vehicle motion in acceleration. A robust sliding mode controller is designed to obtain the maximum driving force by maintaining the value of slip ratio at a reference value. The simulations for one wheel model of vehicle under variations in mass of vehicle and road conditions are performed and analyzed to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

In data mining, visual representation can help in enhancing the ability of analyzing and understanding the techniques, patterns and their integration. Recently, there are varieties of visualizers have been proposed in marketplace and knowledge discovery communities. However, the detail visualization processes for constructing any incremental tree data structure from its original dataset are rarely presented. Essentially, graphic illustrations of the complex processes are easier to be understood as compared to the complex computer pseudocode. Therefore, this paper explains the visualization process of constructing our incremental Disorder Support Trie Itemset (DOSTrieIT) data structure from the flat-file dataset. DOSTrieIT can be used later as a compressed source of information for building Frequent Pattern Tree (FP-Tree). To ensure understandability, an appropriate dataset and its processes are graphically presented and details explained.

In order to practically examine a new type of class, in which cooperative learning is taken into consideration, we designed and built a classroom. This classroom, in which furniture and a flexible ICT basis are both designed reconfigurable, supports much more complex interactions between learners than in a traditional classroom. Two months' observation of the activities in the classroom shows that many aspects of the reconfigurations have encouraged complex interactions within cooperative learning. © 2011 IEEE.

The test activities performed during the life cycle of the telecommunication service development ensure the service quality and stability so necessary to achieve the maximum availability and reliability. The paper presents authors' contribution to remote and distributed testing for mobile communications services based on cloud computing assets and paradigms. The access solutions to the test methods were implemented for the GSM and GSM-R (Global system for Mobile - Railways) related Intelligent Networks services. The scalability and flexibility of the architecture allows to the proposed solution to be used, for both the production and the educational environments, to access the resources located on the different sites for the tests purpose. The concept of the remote test solution and the practical examples based on the remote tests with real equipments are presented in this paper. © 2011 IEEE.
