The paper presents a method for monitoring heartbeats based on time-frequency analysis of optic interferometric signal by using smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution. Optical interferometer is a sensitive device that detects physical changes of the length of optical fibre. When put in mattress, heartbeats of a subject lying on the fibre causes its perturbation. This allows entirely unobtrusive and continuous monitoring of subject's heart rate by processing interferometric signal. Reference ECG signals were acquired in order to verify recognition rate and accuracy of proposed method. An experiment with 6 subjects was performed. Interferometric and referential signals were acquired simultaneously for about 60 s. The obtained results show high recognition rate (about 97% with persons breathing and 98% with persons holding their breath).

The numerous recent contribution of web application testing approaches reflect the rising awareness and concern for assuring web application's functionality and performance. The functionality of a web application cannot be compromised, especially if dealing with critical web-based applications such as online banking system, ticketing system and file hosting services. This paper aims to systematically investigate state-of-the-art functional testing approaches for web applications. Focus will be given on testing techniques that address the functional aspect of a web application. In this paper we firstly perform exhaustive literature reviews on state-of-the-art approaches in functional testing of web application. Next, a comparative evaluation framework that consists of several related criteria is developed, and subsequently applied to the selected prominent approaches. Finally, we present a critical discussion on the results of the comparative evaluation. Based on our observations, the evaluation results may indicate the current and future direction in web application functional testing and the viability of these approaches. Through the results, we will be able to determine the direction of functional web application testing and which area within the functional requirement aspect of web applications that has not duly being addressed.

In this paper, we revisit the energy-based swing-up control problem for a rotational pendulum. Different from the existing energy-based control solution, first, we present a necessary and sufficient condition such that the control law has no singularities for all states of the rotational ***, we carry out a global motion analysis of the pendulum, and we remove the previous required constraint on the initial state of the pendulum and the control parameters for preventing the pendulum getting stuck at the downward equilibrium point by revealing that the point is a saddle. Specifically, we show that the Jacobian matrix evaluated at the point has two and two eigenvalues in the open left- and right-half planes, respectively. We prove that the pendulum will eventually be swung up into the basin of attraction of any (locally) stabilizing controller for all initial conditions with the exception of a set of Lebesgue measure zero. Finally, we validate the presented theoretical results via numerical simulation. Our simulation results show that the swing-up control can be achieved quickly under the improved conditions on the control parameters.

In order to study the internal mechanism of unsaturated optical stopping effect with trace doped tin in As2S8 amorphous thin film waveguide, we use the double-prism coupled technology to investigate the thin film waveguide samples in detail. The chemical bond structures of the thin film materials are analyzed. With the help of the electron energy band gap theory and the hybridize orbital theory, the dynamical model of unsaturated optical stopping is proposed. The numerical analysis results agree with the experimental data very well, and the phenomenon of unsaturated optical stopping effect can be predicted by the deduction of this model. It reveals the nature of the experiments.
