A handshake is an embodied interaction to display closeness using physical contact. In the case of a handshake between a human and a robot, robots can now smoothly communicate and coexist with humans without eliciting feelings of aversion in humans. To enable such a handshake, we proposed a model that simulates a handshake approach motion by analyzing the human-human handshake motion. With this model, a robot generates a handshake motion when a handshake is requested by a human. However, embodied interaction between a human and a robot can be promoted if, instead, a robot requests a handshake from a human. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a handshake request motion model with which a robot requests humans for a handshake. In this model, a robot stretches its hand out to a human to request a handshake. Furthermore, a gaze presentation is generated based on the analysis of the handshake between humans. A handshake robot system with the proposed model is developed, and the effectiveness of the model is experimentally demonstrated.

Nowadays, almost all the enterprises in the world fall in Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) category even though SMEs has different definitions in different countries. At the same time, there is no exemplar standard and /or framework for information technology (IT) governance for SMEs. This paper presents the main issues in implementing IT governance in SMEs. Firstly, it explains the definition of SMEs and their characteristics, secondly it discusses IT governance definition and its framework. Finally, some issues and approaches for ITG implementation in SMEs are described, and end with conclusion and future work.

It is well known that gene regulatory circuits can be modeled by the deterministic or stochastic approach. In this paper, a three-component coupled positive and negative feedback genetic circuit is firstly modeled deterministically by Hill kinetics. Then, a corresponding stochastic model is also investigated by using Gellispie's stochastic simulation. Some typical dynamical behaviors of the genetic circuit are further discussed based on the bifurcation analysis of deterministic system, including monostability, bistability, excitability, and oscillation. This paper aims to further investigate the effect of intrinsic noise inherently in stochastic models on steady states transition. It includes: i) For the parameters in deterministically bistable region, intrinsic noise may induce bistable switch for the not too large system volume, which can be observed by the generation of a new stable steady state; ii) For the parameters in deterministically excitable region, intrinsic noise may induce periodic switch for the very large system volume, which can be observed by the stabilization of another unstable steady state and the switching between two stable states; iii) When time delays are introduced in these two models, similar phenomena can be observed. The above results will certainly increase the understanding of the inner relationships between different modeling for the genetic circuit. It sheds some light on the real- world engineering applications, such as the engineering design of synthetic circuits.

A practical method for evaluating the three-dimensional（3D） position and velocity of a moving object used in the parabolic flight experiment is developed by using the binocular stereo vision measurement theory. The camera calibration mathematic model without considering the lens distortion is *** direct linear transformation（DLT） algorithm is improved to accomplish the camera *** camera calibration result and optimization algorithm are used to calculate the object＇s world coordinate from image *** 3D position and the velocity of the moving object are *** standard uncertainty in estimating the velocity is 0.0024 m/s,which corresponds to 1%level of the velocity of the object in the *** results show that this method is very useful for the parabolic flight experiments.

Pin number or password that is used for authentication can be easily attacked. This limitation triggered the utilization of biometric for secured transactions. Biometric is unique to each individual and is reliable. Among the types of biometric being used currently, iris is the most accurate and it remains stable throughout a person's life. However the major challenge on iris and other biometric for authentication is the intra user variability in the acquired identifiers. Iris of the same person captured at different time may differ due to the signal noise of the iris camera. Traditional cryptography method is unable to encrypt and store biometric template, then perform the matching directly. Minor changes in the bits of the feature set extracted from the iris may lead to a huge difference in the results of the encrypted feature. In our approach, an iris biometric template is secured using iris biometric and passwords. Error Correction Code, ECC is introduced to reduce the variability and noise of the iris data. Experimental results show that this approach can assure a higher security with a low false rejection or false acceptance rate. The successful iris recognition rate using this approach is up to 97%. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper presents an acoustical signal tracking experiment by swarm mobile robots. Biological swarm is a fascinating behavior of nature which was inspired from social insects' behavior. A mobile robot that is designed as a swarm robotic platform was employed for implementing voice exploration behavior. An additional module was developed to connect to robots for processing given voice signals using the proportional signal strength approach that estimates orientation of sound source using fuzzy logic approach. The voice processor module utilizes four condenser microphones with around -47db sensitivity which are placed in different directions of the circuit board for capturing surrounding sound signals. Captured samples by microphones are processed to estimate the relative positions of the sound source in the robotic environment. After estimating the position of the signal's source, all participants move towards similar to the insects' colony. The participant robots have an individual task for the estimation of source location from captured samples. Moreover, according to the swarm definition, an additional cooperation between swarm participants is required to achieve a correct colony of robots. Obtained results illustrate the feasibility of the proposed technique and hardware interface for sound signals acquisition with swarm robots. © 2010 IEEE.

The paper analyzed and model of a fault tolerant electromechanical controlled worm gear driven fuel shut off valve for aerospace application. The analysis is mainly on design a reduced order fractional controller. This is for controlling the velocity of worm gear so that the friction torque due to uneven rotational speed can be avoided. Because with the friction and stiction and backlash the valve system performance is reduced and more and more unstable this leads the system to failure. The proposed controller can provide robustness against the uncertain loading torque and system parameter.

Feature selection has become very vital aspect in musical instruments sounds for handling the problem of 'curse of dimensionality'. Various feature selection techniques have been applied in this domain focusing on Western musical instruments sounds. However, study on feature selection using rough sets of non-Western musical instruments sounds including Malay Traditional musical instruments is inadequate and still needs an intensive research. Thus, in this paper, an alternative feature selection technique using rough set theory based on Maximum Degree of dependency of Attributes (MDA) technique for Traditional Malay musical instruments sounds is proposed. The modeling process comprises eight phases: data acquisition, sound editing, data representation, feature extraction, data discretization, data cleansing, feature selection using proposed technique and feature validation via classification. The results show that the performance of the best 17 selected features is increase up to 99.82% and 98.03% with 1-NN and PART classifiers respectively. © Springer-Verlag (2010).

Decision-making structures are important building blocks in most of the software;however, it may be difficult to verify them because there are various input conditions and several paths causing them to behave differently. Test oracles are reliable sources of how the software must operate. The aim of the present paper is to study the applications of Artificial Neural Networks as an automated oracle to test decision-making structures. First, the decision rules were modeled by the neural network using a training dataset generated based on the software specifications and domain expert knowledge. Next, after the neural network was applied to test a subject-registration application, the proposed approach was evaluated using mutation testing. The accuracy of the resulted oracle is discussed as well. © 2010 IEEE.

Test Oracle is a mechanism to determine if an application executed correctly. In addition, it may be difficult to verify logical software modules due to the complexity of their structures. In this paper, an attempt has been made to study the applications of Artificial Neural Networks as Single-Network Oracles to verify logical modules. First, the logical module under test was modeled by the neural network using a training dataset generated based on the software specifications. Next, the proposed approach was applied to test a subject-registration application;meanwhile, the quality of the proposed oracle is measured by assessing its accuracy, precision, misclassification error and practicality in practice, using mutation testing by implementing two different versions of the case study: a Golden Version and a Mutated Version. The results indicate that neural networks may be reliable and applicative as oracles to verify logical modules. © 2010 IEEE.
