A low-voltage, low-power, wide gain-range variable gain amplifier (VGA) design has been proposed. To provide wide gain range feature, the proposed VGA utilizes a novel pseudo-exponential function. The design synthesis is simplified and optimized using g m = I D method which enables us to characterize transistors in any operating region based on their g m = I D and V GS relation. As the result, in CMOS 90nm technology under 1.2V supply voltage the proposed VGA has 75dB gain-range over 0.81V control voltage range, with 30MHz-184.8MHz bandwidth, and 0.72mW power consumption.

The article briefly analyzes the vibration mechanism of the gear fault and kinds of typical signal characteristics of the gears, and introduces successive fuzzy reasoning into the fault diagnosis of the gears. For the selection of characteristic parameters, we used the discrimination index DI to evaluate the identification ability of the characteristic parameters, and select the characteristic parameters of the largest value of DI. According to possibility theory and statistics and probability theory, we replace the original feature parameters into feature parameters of known distributional, and then equate the membership function used in fuzzy reasoning. Finally, the given diagnosis instance indicates that it is effective and feasible to use the method of successive fuzzy reasoning in the fault diagnosis of gears.

The accuracy and efficiency of cost estimation methodology for web-based application is very important for software development as it would be able to assist the management team to estimate the cost. Furthermore, it will ensure that the development of cost is within the planned budget and provides a fundamental motivation towards the development of web-based application project. The literature review reveals that COCOMO II provides accurate result because more variables are considered including reuse parameter. The parameter is one of the essential variables in estimating the cost in web-based application development. This research investigates the feasibility to combine and implement COCOMO II and expert judgment technique in a tool called WebCost. In estimating a cost, the tool considers all variables in COCOMO II and requires expert judgment to key-in the input of the variables such as project size, project type, cost adjustment factor and cost driven factor. Developed in JAVA, WebCost is proven able to estimate cost and generate its estimation result. The usability evaluation conducted had shown that WebCost is usable when compared with other tools, it has its own advantages. WebCost is evidence suitable for everyone especially the project managers, software practitioners or software engineering student in handling the cost estimation tasks.

Among the diverse forms of malware, Botnet is the most widespread and serious threat which occurs commonly in today's cyber attacks. Botnets are collections of compromised computers which are remotely controlled by its originator (BotMaster) under a common Commond-and-Control (C&C) infrastructure. They provide a distributed platform for several illegal activities such as launching distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks against critical targets, malware distribution, phishing, and click fraud. Most of the existing Botnet detection approaches concentrate only on particular Botnet command and control (C&C) protocols (e.g., IRC, HTTP) and structures (e.g., centralized), and can become ineffective as Botnets change their structure and C&C techniques. The detection of Botnet has been a major research topic in recent years. Different techniques and approaches have been proposed for detection and tracking of Botnet. This survey classifies Botnet detection techniques into two approaches. One approach is based on setting up honeynets and another approach is based on Intrusion Detection system( IDS) which has been categorized into signature-based and anomaly-based detection techniques.

A person's clothes color information was estimated by using a prototype PC-based system. The novel concept can be divided into 3 stages. First, space-variant color filter is put onto the lens of the monochrome security camera. Secondly, when a crime takes place, the camera records suspected person. Finally, just after the crime, characteristics of the space-variant color filter are measured by the police, and the color of the clothes of the suspected person is estimated. In this experiment six kind reference color cloth were used. The result shows using this system to estimate the clothes color is easily, rapidly and precisely.

Wireless local network traces have become an important source of information regarding user activity patterns in the wireless network. Based on the traces at the University of Southern California, this study investigates the temporal statistics of inter-arrival time denoting a time interval between two consecutive arrivals at an access point. The found results for individuals are as follows: the distribution function of inter-arrival time takes on various forms including exponential form, heavy-tail type where the tail can be well fitted by a power-law decaying function and wide power-law form which spans in a wide scale range from several seconds to two days or so. For a group arrival at a common access point, we also find a similar power-law distribution. All these results indicate that there don't exist potential, statistically identical arrivals and that simulating network traffic cannot be done with Poisson models. © 2010 Binary Information Press.

This paper presents a wideband photonic antenna consisting the laser diode, matching circuit, RF amplifier and microstrip patch antenna are fabricated and connected together to perform in uplink system. Laser driver is used to supply the dc biasing for the laser. Lastly, the LD-matching circuit, RF amplifier and antenna were arrange together and connected to perform the wireless uplink system. The simulated and measured results are presented and discussed. These results show useful photonic antenna design that achieves relatively wide bandwidth and has potential to be applied in RoF technology.

Based on the concept of kinematical controllability, we can decouple the trajectory planning of an acrobot into two steps: finding a path in a configuration space and time-scaling it. In this paper, we apply this concept and plan the swing-up motion of an acrobot based on its falling-down motion. First, the initial state of the acrobot is set to the unstable upright equilibrium position, and the movement from this state to the stable downward equilibrium position is produced by introducing an artificial damping torque. A method to obtaining an optimal damping torque is presented. Then, the reference trajectory for the swing-up motion is taken to be the reverse of the falling-down motion. The validity of this method is demonstrated through simulations.

A lightpath route management system with parallel processing capabilities and a flexible upgradability, allowing new functions to be added to the system without any system program changes, has been designed and implemented for IP-over-CWDM networks with ROADMs. The system can process route management functions composed of some sub applications in parallel in multi machines for high speed performance. In addition, the system was designed to have a flexible upgradability which allows adding new functions to the system, i.e. no changes of the system programs are required when adding the new functions. The system functions are to search possible lightpath routes made by ROADMs with specified switch states, and to output the total optical losses of the routes. The system was implemented and the performance was evaluated. By the system with one management and 3 calculation machines for the parallel processing, the total time to obtain the results for a 5-node IPover-CWDM network was reduced down to 65% of the total time by the system with a single machine without parallel processing. The system enables the network administrators to manage the lightpath reconfigurations effectively without errors by avoiding making unlinked lightpaths through routes with higher losses to connect nodes, before the reconfiguration.

Nowadays, we use cryptography keys to secure our communications. One of the common ways for securing data exchanging is via the use of symmetric keys to encipher transmitted data over network. Today's practices for managing keys face many issues in key generation, distribution, and revocation. In this paper we propose interpretative key management method which is simpler than the current practices. Eliminating the need for key storage, the need for key distribution, automatic key revocation, and unique key per session are the main features of the new proposed key management method. Deletion of some steps and replacing some others with new ones helped us to dominate many issues faced with common practices of key management.
