Stereotypic human movements observed in basic experimental tasks have been studied from the viewpoint of optimality with respect to some criteria. Recently, such framework is expected to be applied to understanding skilled realistic movements. This paper deals with a gymnastic maneuver on the high bar, called the kip movement, as a difficult goal-directed task under a nonholonomic constraint. The movements in such system are highly restricted by the constraint; however, it is difficult to imagine that to what extent redundancy remains for achieving the task. Thus, we study on the redundancy underlying the kip movement in this paper. To this end, a simple dynamical model of the kip movement is constructed, where the time histories of angles of actuated joints are parameterized by fifth spline functions. The movement of this model is confirmed to be approximately consistent with a measured movement of an expert gymnast. We propose a systematic method to numerically calculate a set of the spline parameters that achieve the task. A part of the redundancy underlying the kip movement is concretely illustrated. Moreover, we discuss what kind of criteria could be satisfied in the kip movement of expert gymnasts by using the set.

The standardization of eLearning environments and the design of collaboration scripts are two research areas that are acquiring a greater attention within the computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) community. IMS Learning Design (IMS-LD) is the specification used to describe instructional strategies. In this paper we analyse the suitability and lacks of IMS-LD for modelling collaborative learning processes. Based on this result, we propose a reference model inside the IMS specifications core and the use of a graphical notation called CIAN (Collaborative Interactive Applications Notation) as CSCL scripting language. Using these specifications of a high level of abstraction and mappable to a computer-interpretable notation such as IMS-LD, allows hiding the particularities of the standard to instructional designers. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

The current software development environment has been changing into new development paradigms such as concurrent distributed development environment and the so-called open source project by using network computing technologies. New distributed development paradigm typified by such open source project will evolve at a rapid pace in the future. Especially, OSS (Open Source Software) systems which serve as key components of critical infrastructures in the society are still ever-expanding now. We focus on OSS developed under open source project. In this paper, we propose a software reliability growth model based on stochastic differential equations in order to consider the active state of the open source project. Especially, we assume that the software failure intensity depends on the time, and the software fault-report phenomena on the bug tracking system keep an irregular state. Also, we analyze actual software fault count data to show numerical examples of software reliability assessment for the OSS. Moreover, it has been necessary to manage the software development process in terms of reliability, effort, and version-upgrade time. In this paper, we find the optimal total version-upgrade time based on the total expected software maintenance effort. We show that the proposed model can assist improvement of quality for OSS systems developed under the open source project. © 2008 ICQR.

This paper presents a remotely accessible Telecom Intelligent Network (IN) simulator, centered on the Basic Call State Mode (BCSM). This model is a Finite State Machine which describes the behavior of IN services in the call processing. The simulator is dedicated to the students in Telecom and allows them to get acquainted with the operation of the IN Service Control Point (SCP) in different scenarios they can imagine.

In Intelligent Networks (IN), processing of services is taken out of the switches and placed (as "middleware") in separated and distributed computer nodes. Thus, "service integrators" (and not only equipment manufacturers or network operators) can design, deploy and administrate telecom processes tailored to the specific needs of targeted customers (individuals or groups). Education is centered on communications, so IN can be used to enhance learning management systems (LMS), with no space boundaries and in total compliance with community goals. Proprietary IN platforms are used mostly by telecom operators, but open source platforms, using Java APIs (e.g. Mobicents) are nowadays available for educational service creation in universities - which represents the subject of this paper.

Producing software that is adaptable to the rapid environmental changes and the dynamic nature of the business life-cycle is extensively becoming a topical issue in the software evolution. In this context, change propagation (CP) process is one of the critical parts in the software change management. Traditional strategies have projected more complex ways, resulting to substantial failures and risks. This paper presents an investigation and highlights on the desired criteria to provide better means to simplify the complicated CP tasks. The evaluation results may be used as a foundation in improving CP approaches that provide significant challenges in software evolution.

Much as software is very useful as a driving force of physical machine in assisting many aspects of human endeavor, it is also often accomplished with delicate aspect especially when correct specification and quality are not met. Ranging from less critical applications (such as payroll), to highly sophisticated application (such as health care system) as well as mission critical applications (such as space mission), failures in the functionality of these systems are often accompanied by disproportionate heavy losses to the respective users. In addition, industrial application is performance-intensive and cannot afford to fail. In this paper, our novel open onions ontology was presented which approaches software development from a layered point of view, the open source approach as an alternative methodology for industrial application development was proposed. Various issues involved in industrial applications were reviewed, the current industrial development methodologies were discussed and possibilities of adopting open source were explored.

Recent development on classify speaker data from a group of speaker is still insufficient to provide a satisfied result in achieving high performance pattern classification engine. There are two main difficulties in this field: how to maintain accuracy rate under incremental amounts of training data and how to reduce the time processing in the case embedded systems need to consider about efficient and simplicity of calculation. Recently we have proposed three difference hybrid pattern classification approach for text independent speaker identification system; in these approaches, we combined a hybrid GMM/VQ and decision Tree model. In this paper, we extend our investigations in order to select the most suitable hybrid GMM/VQ+DT model for real time application. For the first proposed hybrid modeling, both VQ model and GMM model will run parallel after signal preprocessing process; while the second type of proposed hybrid modeling, we present the use of decision tree in VQ techniques. The third method are extended from the second hybrid modeling which is using VQ decision rules for Gaussian mixture modeling in order to simplified the process. Experimental result shows that the third type of hybrid modeling should be considered for real world application due to the superior performance of time processing.

In this paper, we concern a swing-up control problem for an n-link revolute planar robot with any one of the joint being a passive joint. The goal of this study is to design and analyze a swing-up controller that can bring the robot into any arbitrarily small neighborhood of the upright equilibrium point with all links in the upright position. To achieve this challenging objective while preventing the robot from becoming stuck at an undesired closed-loop equilibrium point, first, we address how to iteratively devise two series of virtual composite links separated by the passive joint to be used for designing a coordinate transformation on the angles of all active joints. Second, we devise an energy based swing-up controller that uses a new Lyapunov function based on that transformation. Third, we analyze the global motion of the robot under the controller and establish conditions on control parameters that ensure attainment of the swing-up control objective. The results obtained here unify some previous results for the Pendubot, the Acrobot, and three-link robots with a passive first joint. Finally, we validate the theoretical results via a numerical simulation investigation to a 4-link robot with a passive joint.

Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) [1,2], which is an on-demand routing protocol, becomes the most popular source routing protocol for MANET. Each mobile node is required to maintain route caches that contain the source routes of which the mobile is aware. Although DSR can respond a route quickly, it yields a long delay when a route is rebuilt. This is because when source node receives RERR packet, it will try to find alternative routes from route cache. If alternative routes are not available, source node, then, will enter route discovery phase to find new routes. Finding a route in wireless network require considerable resources, such as time, bandwidth, and power because it relies on broadcasting. As the extension of DISTANCE algorithm presented in [3], Adaptive DISTANCE (ADISTANCE) is proposed in this paper. From simulation result it shows that the adaptive extension of DISTANCE gives ability to work in asynchronous communication network.
