Frequent localization in sensor networks may be needed due to the dynamically changing topology and the possible mobility of sensor nodes. We present a distributed adaptive localization method that we refer to as: map-based adaptive positioning (MAP). The main idea is to construct a relative local map at every node in the network, consisting of the node itself and its immediate neighbors, and merge the local maps together to form a global map. We consider two algorithms that can be used to estimate the relative local maps: multidimensional scaling (MDS) and semidefinite programming (SDP). The performance of these algorithms depend on two parameters: size of a local map, i.e., number of nodes, and the average connectivity of the node at the center of the local map and its 1-hop neighbors. We use machine learning to adaptively select the appropriate algorithm to estimate the relative local maps. Simulation results show that MAP outperforms both MDS and SDP, with better improvement for networks with less uniform node deployment.

The lag effects of utterance to communicative motions in human-robot and in human-CG character greeting interaction have been clarified. In this paper, information presentation timing by an agent based on the time lag effects of utterance to communicative action is analyzed by synthesis for applying to a human-agent interaction support. First, the analysis of a human information presentation action clarifies the average pause and average time delay of utterance. Then, the analysis by synthesis is performed by using an agent of CG character and confirms that the lags of utterance in certain information presentation timing bring communication effects, i.e. the moderate lag is familiar and the longer lag is polite. It is also clarified that it is unnatural to start motions and utterance simultaneously in human-agent interaction. These results demonstrate the importance of timing in human-to-agent embodied interaction and the method to perform an information presentation effectively.

E-COSMIC comprises an embodied virtual communication system for human interaction analysis by synthesis and a speech-driven embodied interaction system for supporting essential human interaction and communication based on the analysis that uses the embodied virtual communication system. The alcohol dependency is hard to diagnose since none of the existing laboratory markers has sufficient specificity and sensitivity. Therefore the goal of our study was to find better laboratory markers and / or their combinations. For that purpose the intelligent data analysis using the decision tree induction method was used. The results show that the combination of three or even two markers can prove alcohol dependency with almost 85% accuracy. However the remark has to be made that the induced decision tree offers a qualitatively different access to diagnostic evaluation of laboratory findings and varies from common practice, because it sets up its new and own borders and criteria what is the unlike from generally accepted or set up reference values. All selected markers are widely accessible, inexpensive and part of a routine laboratory tests.

For the assessment of this variability, the uncertainty in the system inputs should be modeled, comprising of the time-dependent stochasticity of the system loads and the correlated wind resources. With the emergence of mobile multimedia services, such as unified messaging, click to dial, cross network multiparty conferencing and seamless multimedia streaming services, the fixed-mobile convergence and voice-data integration has started, leading to an overall Internet-Telecommunications merger. The IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) is considered as the next generation service delivery platform in this converge communication world. It consists of modular design with open interfaces and enables the flexibility for providing multimedia services over IP technology. At parallel this open based emerging technology has security challenges from multiple communication platforms like IP, SIP and RTP. In this article our objective is to develop security model to protect IMS service delivery platform (SDP) from different time independent attacks e.g. SQL injection and media flow attacks. These attacks ultimately downfall the value added services. At the end we shall present the performance results at Fokus Fraunhofer Testbed to see the proposed solution for real world applications.

Robots are complex systems that require multidisciplinary approach to development. Hence, both research and production of a robotic system require a tool that would provide means for coordination between teams with different areas of expertise as well as the ability to integrate, simulate and debug the system in a comprehensive way. Also, with the growing popularity of service robotics, research and modeling of human-machine interaction gains the attention. From a simulation tool, it is expected to support the means for describing this interaction. For that purpose we are investigating the ML Designer TM , not just as a possible simulation tool, but also as a modeling and design paradigm. For verification purposes we will compare it against MATLAB Simulink TM . A pneumatic system will be modeled with both tools and a comparison will be performed.

We have developed an embodied avatar mediated communication system by using a human avatar called the 'VirtualActor' and an abstract avatar called the 'VirtualWave' within the same communication space. VirtualActor is a CG character based on a talker's embodied information in the virtual space. The self-referable avatar's motion is consistent with the talker's conscious behavior and unconscious communication rhythms of the body, w hich are measured using sensors. This paper show s the effect of embodied avatar mediated communication for remote talkers in a communication experiment in which the head motion of the listener's VirtualActor is stopped inconsistently. And we propose the concept of the embodied avatar called the 'PuppetAvatar' based on the talker's hand motion and the prototype of the system by using the glove sensor or trackball is developed.
