A problem to make a graph strongly connected is one of the most fundamental problems in graph theory. The known parallel algorithm solves this problem in O(log n) time using O(n 3 ) processors on a CRCW PRAM model. In this paper we present a parallel algorithm to find the minimum edges to make a disconnected directed acyclic graph strongly connected in O(log(m + n)) time using O(m + n) processors on a CREW PRAM model. This algorithm is an efficient parallel algorithm because the number of processors varies according to the density of the given graph.

The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) has emerged as next generation value added communication services including mobile multimedia broadcasting, multimedia conferencing, push to talk and presence etc on top of all IP networks. Offering multimedia streaming services across heterogeneous fixed and mobile networks have faced many challenges e.g. security, QoS, mobility and services management. In this article our objective is to identity vulnerability threats and attacks, and to study existing potential solutions for mobile multimedia broadcasting. The attacks possibilities are from multiple communication protocols suite i.e. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is used for session management, Diameter is used for authentication and authorization, Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) & Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) are used for media streaming on top of transport and IP infrastructure, therefore facing security challenges from three protocols domains. We will also present extended security by developing Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) system to secure IMS based Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting communication from Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks.

In this paper, we present a new approach to investigate the existence and design of reduced-order proper H_(infinity) controllers that provide the same level of performance as that of full-order controllers. By revealing some special features of the LMI-based solvability conditions for the H_(infinity) control problem for descriptor systems, we obtain a refined bound on the order of H_(infinity) controllers, which is independent of (invariant under the allowed transformations on) a descriptor realization of the generalized plant. Moreover, we provide two LMI-based algorithms to design the reduced-order controllers and demonstrate the validity of the presented theoretical results via two numerical examples. This paper not only extends in a satisfying way the results on reduced-order H_(infinity) controllers for state-space systems to descriptor systems, but also provides insight into the mechanism by which the order of H_(infinity) controllers for descriptor systems can be reduced through a consideration of the unstable finite zeros or infinite zeros.

NEURAL-ADAPTIVE CONTROL BASED ON ADALINE NEURONS WITH APPLICATION TO A POWER system

A neural-adaptive control solution is exposed in this paper. The control strategy is based on the linear adaptive neuron, which is called ADALINE. Unlike other neural control solutions, based on perceptrons neurons characterized by a long time learning process and a difficult on-line tuning of weights, this approach uses a fast algorithm, which adapts on-line the neuron's weights. Therefore the non-linear character of control law is induced by the permanent changes of neuron weights, which are variable parameters of controller. A set of study cases is done, with application to the excitation control of a synchronous generator.

This paper presents issues regarding short term electric load forecasting using feedforward and Elman recurrent neural networks. The study cases were developed using measured data representing electrical energy consume from Banat area. There were considered 35 different types of structure for both feedforward and recurrent network cases. For each type of neural network structure were performed many trainings and best solution was selected. The issue of forecasting the load on short term is essential in the effective energetic consume management in an open market environment.

In this work, we investigate the characteristics of the 2004 major storm events based on GPS-TEC measurement at Scott Base station Antarctica (77.9degS, 166.8degE). The F2 layer critical frequencies and peak height during the storm from the ionosonde measurement at the station are also investigated. Our main emphasis was on the characteristics and response during major storms events. Our results include the daily GPS-TEC and F2 layer critical frequencies and peak height from KEL IPS-42 ionosonde measurements at Scott Base station. For the year 2004, 4 storm days are classified as major storms, which have occurred on 27 th July 2004, referred to as Storm-A and on 8 th to 10 th November 2004 referred to as Storm-B. The World Data Center (WDC) Kp, Dst, and Ap highest indices for Storm-A is 9, -197 nT, and 162 respectively while for Storm-B is 9, -373 nT, and 189 respectively. The response of the ionosphere provide us some indicators of the processes and geophysical changes of the Sun-Heliospheric system during the intense geomagnetic storm period.

Tinnitus is the perception of phantom sounds in the ears or in the head. Sound therapy techniques for tinnitus have been proposed. To account for mechanisms of tinnitus generation and the clinical effects of sound therapies from the viewpoint of neural engineering, we have proposed a plastic neural network model for the human auditory system. We found that this model has a bistable state, i.e., a stable oscillatory state and a stable equilibrium (non-oscillatory) state coexist at a certain parameter region. We also found that the oscillation can be inhibited by supplying sinusoidal stimulus, which is hypothesized as sound for treatment of tinnitus, to the model. By hypothesizing that the oscillation and the equilibrium correspond to generation and inhibition of tinnitus, respectively, we reported that these phenomena could explain the fact that the habituated human auditory system temporarily halts perception of tinnitus following sound therapy. This paper describes dynamical properties of the model and inhibition of the oscillation for two kinds of noise stimuli which correspond to sound for treatment of tinnitus in clinical. Through numerical simulations we found that adequate noise stimulus can inhibits the oscillation.

The logic operating voltage is required to suppress for the battery-operated slow application, while the minimum operating voltage of SRAM increase due to the increase in the random threshold-voltage (Vt) fluctuation of the cell transistor (Tr) and the memory capacitance embedded in SoCs with scaling. To suppress the random Vt fluctuation and to guarantee the stable operation over the large memory capacitance at low voltage, a reduced-Vt (LVt) SRAM cell has been proposed. The random Vt fluctuation was suppressed by the proposed LVt cell (Vt=150mV) and increase the static noise margin (SNM) for the data-retention at low voltage compared with conventional higher Vt cell (Vt=300mV). Another unique disturb-free biasing scheme has also been proposed to cancel the substantial trade-off relationship between SNM and the write margin (WRTM) of SRAM cell. With a 45-nm CMOS technology, these proposed techniques improved the SNM over 6-σ random Vt fluctuation with the 0.5-V data-retention voltage and the 0.7-V logic bias voltage. Operating current was reduced by 31% at 32-Kbit SRAM module.

A metallic waveguide is one of effective media guiding a millimeter- and submillimeter-wave because of the advantage of low loss. In this paper, trial fabrication of a PTFE-filled rectangular waveguide for millimeter-wave components is attempted with the use of the SR direct etching process, sputter deposition of metal, and electroplating. The fabrication procedure for the PTFE-filled waveguide is described and the measured frequency characteristics of the PTFE-filled waveguide mitered bends are shown.

Explorative research is a vital part of biological sciences. Biologists frequently have to examine and compare multiple (large) sets of biological data in an interactive and explorative manner. Exploring alternative ways of examining the data and managing the necessary resources often require substantial (manual) effort and time. In this paper, we present a concrete example of how VLAM, a grid-based workflow management system, can enhance experimentation. We discuss in detail the process of developing the SigWin-detector, an application in the domain of bioinformatics. We show that SigWin-detector can promptly identify regions of increased gene expression in transcriptome maps and periodicity in weather data. We also show that the workflow can be extended or partially modified. The individual modules can also be used to compose different experiments. SigWin-detector fulfills the requirements of interactive and explorative experimentation. ©2006 IEEE.
