In human face-to-face communication, both verbal and nonverbal communication such as nodding and body motions are rhythmically related and mutually synchronized between talkers. This synchrony of embodied rhythms generates the sharing of embodiment in human interaction, which plays an important role in essential human interaction and communication. Further, humans make also body actions which express their intention. These nodding and body actions realize smooth and natural human communication. In this paper, we develop an embodied communication system which is composed of speech-driven embodied entrainment characters Inter Actors and a force sensor. In this communication system, InterActor makes body actions which express intention of affirmation and negation by force sensor inputs as well as entrained body motions by speech input. The effectiveness of the proposed communication system is demonstrated by sensory evaluations.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce an novel edge detector using directional wavelet transform and signal registration. Directional wavelet transform decomposes an image into four-dimensional space which augments the image by the scale and directional information. We show the directional information significantly improves edge detection in noisy images in comparison with the classical multiscale edge detector, and enables more reliable edge tracing along an object boundary. Edge detection is based on the modulus maximum principle with an adaptive threshold whose value is calculated via maximum entropy measure. In this paper, we propose a new system that conveys the virtual contact feeling to people. Virtually, we make the real contact feeling that they touch the tip of their finger to the object. As the friction exits between the tip of their finger and the object, we make the friction, and will be able to consummate the virtual contact feeling. Nowadays, only the visual information of the object is conveyed to the user on the screen on Web. In the concept, the peculiar facts concerning the security camera system that all the things in the image except the suspected person itself are usually preserved and that can be used for investigations are to be used as fully as possible. The authors have launched a project in which techniques based on the concept are developed for the police. In the project, some methods of restoring an image of a person's figure taken by a camera with dirty lens have been developed. The individual of population in standard self-adaptive evolutionary programming (EP) is composed as a pair of objective variable and strategy parameter. Therefore, EP must evolve both objective variable and strategy parameter. In standard evolutionary programming (CEP), these evolutions are implemented by mutation based on only Gaussian random number. On the other hand, fast evolutionary programming (FEP) uses Cauchy random number as evolution of objective variable and exponential evolutionary programming (EEP) uses exponential random number as evolution of objective variable. However, all of these EP (CEP, FEP and EEP) commonly uses Gaussian random number as evolution of strategy parameter. In this paper, we propose new EEP algorithm (NEP) which uses double exponential random number for both evolution of objective variable and strategy parameter. The experimental results show that this new algorithm (NEP) outperforms the existing CEP and FEP.

We have developed scanning laser range sensor called "SOKUIKI" sensor which is ultra-small scanning laser range sensor adopted for various types of mobile robots as we have already published. As a sensor for environment recognition, we thought the sensor must have not only outputting distance data but also another helpful function for mobile robots. So it was considered that what kind of advanced functions should be provided to SOKUIKI sensor. As a result two most important purposes were acquired. 1. Variation on its distance data and method to get the data. 2. The function for prevention of optical interference between sensors. These rolls were installed to the sensor, and confirmed their effect.
