The majority of real-time object recognition systems operate on two-dimensional images, degrading the influence of the involved objects' third-dimensional (i.e., depth) information. The depth information of a captured scene provides a thorough understanding of an object in full-dimensional space. During the last decade, several region proposal techniques have been integrated into object detection. scenes’ objects are then localized and classified but only in a twodimensional space. Such techniques exist under the umbrella of two-dimensional object detection models such as YOLO and SSD. However, these techniques have the issue of being uncertain that an object's boundaries are properly specified into the particular scene. This paper proposes a unique region proposal and object detection strategy based on retrieving depth information for localization and segmentation of the scenes’ objects in real-time manner. The obtained results on different datasets show superior accuracy in comparison to the commonly implemented techniques with regards to not only detection but also a pixel-bypixel accurate localization of objects. © 2022, The Authors. Time-continuous detection of cells on substrates without the need of optical microscopic imaging is of broad interest in biotechnological applications. We present a method how to detect cancer cells using voltage noise caused by cell adhesion which is recorded by high-density CMOS-based microelectrode arrays. We analyze our data in terms of spectral power density for two different types of arrays, each of them being optimized in a different working regime.

A MULTI-MODAL UNSUPERVISED MACHINE LEARNING APPROACH FOR BIOMEDICAL SIGNAL PROCESSING IN CPR

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a critical, life-saving intervention aimed at restoring blood circulation and breathing in individuals experiencing cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. Accurate and real-time analysis of biomedical signals during CPR is essential for monitoring and decision-making, from the pre-hospital stage to the intensive care unit (ICU). However, CPR signals are often corrupted by noise and artifacts, making precise interpretation challenging. Traditional denoising methods, such as filters, struggle to adapt to the varying and complex noise patterns present in CPR signals. Given the high-stakes nature of CPR, where rapid and accurate responses can determine survival, there is a pressing need for more robust and adaptive denoising techniques. In this context, an unsupervised machine learning (ML) methodology is particularly valuable, as it removes the dependence on labeled data, which can be scarce or impractical in emergency scenarios. This paper introduces a novel unsupervised ML approach for denoising CPR signals using a multi-modality framework, which leverages multiple signal sources to enhance the denoising process. The proposed approach not only improves noise reduction and signal fidelity but also preserves critical inter-signal correlations (0.9993) which is crucial for downstream tasks. Furthermore, it outperforms existing methods in an unsupervised context in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), making it highly effective for real-time applications. The integration of multi-modality further enhances the system’s adaptability to various biomedical signals beyond CPR, improving both automated CPR systems and clinical decision-making. © 2024, CC BY.

Haplotype block partitioning methods have been widely employed in the analysis of genetic patterns of common and complex diseases. The existing methods suffer from high time and memory complexities due to the key bottleneck of computing the linkage disequilibrium (LD) for all or most pairs of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). In this work, we propose a multithreaded variant of the confidence internal test (CIT) method for haplotype block partitioning implementations. The usefulness of the proposed method in reducing the time and memory costs is demonstrated through experiments on the North American Rheumatoid Arthritis Consortium (NARAC) dataset. Our simulation results show 11–35% savings in time and 8–36% savings in memory requirements with only 3–6% increase in CPU *** Relevance: This work seeks time and memory savings in genetic analysis for the prediction of diseases with complex factors (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis in our case). These savings can streamline and accelerate relevant clinical workflows and reduce demand for computational resources.

In this work, we propose the use of energy harvesting and semantic communication for Internet of Things (IoT) systems. The system allows IoT devices to harvest energy from a base station and then uses the harvested energy for extracting and transmitting semantic information, i.e., scene graphs, to the base station. The proposed network thus copes with the energy and network resource constraints of the IoT devices. To maximize the total image data or scene graph transmitted to the base station, we formulate a problem that optimizes the energy harvesting duration, the selection of original image or portions of scene graphs, transmit power, and channel allocation to the IoT devices. Under the high dynamics and uncertainty of the context and size of the collected images as well as the wireless channels and computing resources, we propose two advanced deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms, i.e., advantage Actor-Critic (A2C) and proximal policy optimization (PPO), to solve the problem. Simulation results are implemented on the real dataset clearly showing that the performance achieved by the proposed algorithms is much higher than that achieved by the baseline scheme. This implies that more original images or triplets are transmitted.

Blockchain, initially developed as the underlying technology for Bitcoin, has garnered significant attention for its applications beyond cryptocurrency, particularly in complex non-monetary domains. Utilizing cryptographic methods like hashing and asymmetric encryption, combined with a distributed consensus model, Blockchain-based ledgers achieve high levels of security and immutability, effectively removing the need for third-party intermediaries. Meanwhile, the rapid growth in Internet of Things (IoT) devices being connected to networks raises substantial concerns around security and privacy. Addressing these security challenges is essential for the expanding IoT landscape. This paper explores the blockchain solution by integrating cryptocurrency with IoT for enhanced security, reviewing recent studies and applications to evaluate Blockchain's role in IoT security, pinpoint challenges, and propose Blockchain-driven solutions to improve security in the IoT ecosystem.

The SMS spam detection Project provides a comprehensive framework for reliably identifying and classifying spam messages sent over SMS communication channels by fusing ML algorithms with NLP techniques. Using EDA, a dataset of labelled SMS messages identified as spam or ham is thoroughly studied to reveal patterns in the word count, sentence count, and message length distributions. Then, unstructured text is transformed into structured data that may be utilized with ML models through tokenization, punctuation and stop word removal, stemming, and other text preprocessing techniques. Feature engineering, which numerically represents text data using vectorization techniques like BoW and TF-IDF, plays a significant role. Various ML algorithms, including Gaussian Naive Bayes, Multinomial Naive Bayes, SVM, and ensemble approaches, are trained and evaluated. Performance metrics, including accuracy and precision, serve as standards for model selection.

Information retrieval systems play the critical role of meeting information needs of users. Therefore, high effectiveness is expected from these systems since users make decisions based on the retrieval results. The effectiveness of these systems varies and is only known through retrieval evaluation and the main approach of evaluating these systems is the test collection model which comprises of a corpus of documents, topics and relevance judgments. One limitation of this approach is the cost of generating the relevance judgments. A recent solution to this limitation is the prediction of performance metrics at the high evaluation depths of documents using the system scores of other performance metrics computed at the low evaluation depths. However, this solution has a drawback of the inaccurate predictions of the non-cumulative discounted gain (nDCG) and the precision performance metrics at the high evaluation depths of documents using other performance metrics computed at the low evaluation depths. Therefore, this study addresses this drawback by proposing an approach that predicts the nDCG and precision performance metrics at the high evaluation depths of documents using topic scores of other performance metrics computed at the low evaluation depths. This study has shown that the proposed approach performs better predictions of the nDCG and precision performance metrics than the existing method. © 2021 IEEE.

A science mapping analysis was performed on Scopus papers spanning from 2003 to 2022 to investigate the utilization of artificial intelligence techniques in malignant tumors research. The analysis unveiled a progressive rise in publications, amounting to a total of 206, with articles accounting for 55.34% and conference papers making up 44.66%. Zuherman Rustam and Universitas Indonesia made substantial contributions. India's exceptional performance might be due to the availability of financial support from prestigious organizations such as Universitas Indonesia, the National Natural science Foundation of China, and Brazil's Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico. An investigation of social networks, specifically looking at collaborations between authors, revealed robust international cooperation, which improved the availability of resources and infrastructure. The hotspot research revealed the prominent terms to be genetic algorithms, diseases, and feature extraction. The cluster analysis identified three main areas of focus: Precision Health Analytics, Genomic Cancer Profiling, and Integrated AI Diagnosis. In summary, AIMTR research is actively tackling cancer and oncological concerns through the use of computational approaches, making substantial contributions to both societal and scientific progress.
