Banking produces extensive and diverse data, so a clustering process is needed to understand customer behavior patterns and transactions more effectively. This clustering has been widely utilized with the K-Means algorithm due to its simplicity and efficiency. However, this algorithm is limited in determining the optimal cluster center, affecting the accuracy of the clustering results. This study proposes applying two metaheuristic algorithms, Invasive Weed Optimization (IWO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), as additional solutions combined with K-Means. These two algorithms were chosen because of their ability to find global solutions and convergence speed to handle large and complex banking data. The results show the superiority of IWOKM compared to PSOKM in terms of SSE and DBI. From the SSE value, IWOKM produces a lower value (3029.77), which indicates that this method is better at minimizing clustering errors and producing more accurate clustering than PSOKM (80007.09). From the DBI value, IWOKM also produces a better value (1.6684) than PSOKM (1.6782), which shows that the clusters produced by IWOKM are more compact and more separated. However, in terms of computation time, PSOKM is more efficient, with a faster average computation time. Although IWOKM produces better clustering quality, PSOKM offers advantages in terms of processing speed. This finding confirms that the selection of the IWO algorithm is more appropriate for use on datasets with characteristics such as the German Credit Dataset.

This paper presents a novel Nonlinear Model Predictive Controller (NMPC) architecture for trajectory tracking of omnidirectional robots. The key innovation lies in the method of handling constraints on maximum velocity and acceleration outside of the optimization process, significantly reducing computation time. The controller uses a simplified process model to predict the robot’s state evolution, enabling real-time cost function minimization through gradient descent methods. The cost function penalizes position and orientation errors as well as control effort variation. Experimental results compare the performance of the proposed controller with a generic Proportional-Derivative (PD) controller and a NMPC with integrated optimization constraints. The findings reveal that the proposed controller achieves higher precision than the PD controller and similar precision to the NMPC with integrated constraints, but with substantially lower computational effort. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Adversarial attacks can mislead automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems into predicting an arbitrary target text, thus posing a clear security threat. To prevent such attacks, we propose DistriBlock, an efficient detection strategy applicable to any ASR system that predicts a probability distribution over output tokens in each time step. We measure a set of characteristics of this distribution: the median, maximum, and minimum over the output probabilities, the entropy of the distribution, as well as the Kullback-Leibler and the Jensen-Shannon divergence with respect to the distributions of the subsequent time step. Then, by leveraging the characteristics observed for both benign and adversarial data, we apply binary classifiers, including simple threshold-based classification, ensembles of such classifiers, and neural networks. Through extensive analysis across different state-of-the-art ASR systems and language data sets, we demonstrate the supreme performance of this approach, with a mean area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for distinguishing target adversarial examples against clean and noisy data of 99% and 97%, respectively. To assess the robustness of our method, we show that adaptive adversarial examples that can circumvent DistriBlock are much noisier, which makes them easier to detect through filtering and creates another avenue for preserving the system's robustness.

Online learning has gained traction over recent years, especially since online education has become more widespread. However, it comes with its own set of challenges of which high dropout is still a major one. Identifying at-risk learners at an early stage is pivotal to offering personalized attention that can potentially prevent them from dropping out from the online courses. This work proposes two methods to analyze students' progress in an online course and subsequently identify dropout prone students. The first method performs fusion of course activity features by concatenating previous weeks' features before training. The second method extracts course activity features from the start date of the courses to a current week instead of concatenating as the first method does. A set of machine learning models and an ensemble framework were trained and tested on these two types of feature sets. On evaluating the models, the benchmark dataset KDDCup15 has been used, where the first method yielded an F1-score 91% while the second method yielded a score 92%. It was observed that both feature fusion methods produce comparable results although we expected that the concatenation of the features over time would produce better results. We also found that using features over a longer duration of time can help in achieving better performance. Further, ensemble model consistently outperformed the base classifiers. © 2022 IEEE.

This research describes the integration of smart agriculture with ancestral knowledge in the cultivation of medicinal plants, addressing current challenges in global agriculture. Single-Model Attribution for Spoofed Speech via Vocoder Fingerprints in an Open-World Setting

As speech generation technology advances, so do the potential threats of misusing spoofed speech signals. One way to address these threats is by attributing the signals to their source generative model. In this work, we are the first to tackle the single-model attribution task in an open-world setting, that is, we aim at identifying whether spoofed speech signals from unknown sources originate from a specific vocoder. We show that the standardized average residual between audio signals and their low-pass filtered or EnCodec filtered versions can serve as powerful vocoder fingerprints. The approach only requires data from the target vocoder and allows for simple but highly accurate distance-based model attribution. We demonstrate its effectiveness on LJSpeech and JSUT, achieving an average AUROC of over 99% in most settings. The accompanying robustness study shows that it is also resilient to noise levels up to a certain degree. © 2024, CC BY.

Machine learning has been widely used as part of financial markets investment strategies, whether for forecasting the financial assets exchange rate, managing market volatility, or solving different classification problems that help with decision-making. Building an investment strategy using a scientific approach requires a massive amount of data, good computational power, and some expertise in the finance industry. Machine learning applications to the financial field, such as price exchange rate prediction, market pattern recognition, or other trading strategy tasks, are considered optimization problems. As they require an efficient algorithm dedicated to finding a global optimum, they can be solved using metaheuristics. In this survey, we study how metaheuristic optimization techniques contribute to building a robust learning model dedicated to financial investment strategy applications.

Cloud technology is a business strategy that aims to provide the necessary material to customers depending on their needs. Individuals and cloud businesses alike have embraced the cloud storage service, which has become the most widely used service. The industries outsource their data to cloud storage space to relieve themselves of a load of dealing with redundant data contents. This must be protected to prevent the theft of personal belongings, and privacy must be improved as well. Different research projects have been suggested to ensure the safe management of the information included within the data content. The security of current research projects, on the other hand, still needs improvement. As a result, this method has been suggested to address the security concerns associated with cloud computing. The primary goal of this study effort is to offer a safe environment for cloud users while also increasing the profit of cloud resource providers by managing and securely delivering data contents to the cloud users. The bulk of sectors, including business, finance, the military, and the healthcare industry, do not store data in cloud-based storage systems. This technique is used to attract these kinds of customers. Increasing public acceptance Medical researchers are drawn to cloud computing because it allows them to store their study material in a centralized location and distribute and access it in a more flexible manner.
