This paper investigates use meta-heuristic to solve curve fitting problems in Optical-Diffraction Based Image Depth Reconstruction. We aim to accurately establish a relationship curve between object distance and diffraction blur kernel through discrete data points. A mathematical model is first developed to formulate the concerned problems. Then, four meta-heuristic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, artificial bee colony, genetic algorithm and differential evolution, are employed and improved according to the problem’s feature. Finally, experiments are executed on a data set. A comparison of the similarity of the least squares method verifies the feasibility of meta-heuristics for solving curve fitting problems. Among the four meta-heuristics, differential evolution algorithm has the best competitiveness.

Enhancing 3D Human Pose Estimation Amidst Severe Occlusion with Dual Transformer Fusion

In the field of 3D Human Pose Estimation from monocular videos, the presence of diverse occlusion types presents a formidable challenge. Prior research has made progress by harnessing spatial and temporal cues to infer 3D poses from 2D joint observations. This paper introduces a Dual Transformer Fusion (DTF) algorithm, a novel approach to obtain a holistic 3D pose estimation, even in the presence of severe occlusions. Confronting the issue of occlusion-induced missing joint data, we propose a temporal interpolation-based occlusion guidance mechanism. To enable precise 3D Human Pose Estimation, our approach leverages the innovative DTF architecture, which first generates a pair of intermediate views. Each intermediate-view undergoes spatial refinement through a self-refinement schema. Subsequently, these intermediate-views are fused to yield the final 3D human pose estimation. The entire system is end-to-end trainable. Through extensive experiments conducted on the Human3.6M and MPI-INF-3DHP datasets, our method’s performance is rigorously evaluated. This paper exploits multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to assist energy transfer, data uploading, and transmission in wireless networks, aiming to maximize the network's energy efficiency (EE). The inherent challenge of inaccessible or energy-intensive real-time information exchanges among UAVs results in undesirable delays in acquiring global network information. Such delayed information significantly hinders the transmission control and trajectory planning of the UAV s in multi-UAV-assisted wireless networks. To address this challenge, we propose a delay-tolerant multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (DT-MADRL) algorithm to jointly optimize the UAVs' trajectories and transmission control strategies based on randomly delayed information. In particular, we integrate a delay penalty term in the reward function that forces each UAV to have more regular information exchanges with the base station (BS). This ensures that each UAV can understand the real-time network environment, thereby reducing information delay and fostering more effective multi-agent collaboration. The simulation results reveal that our proposed algorithm reduces the UAVs' average information delay by 68% and improves overall EE by 28% compared to traditional MADRL algorithms.

The UK has set plans to increase offshore wind capacity from 22GW to 154GW by 2030. With such tremendous growth, the sector is now looking to Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (RAI) in order to tackle lifecycle service barriers as to support sustainable and profitable offshore wind energy production. Today, RAI applications are predominately being used to support short term objectives in operation and maintenance. However, moving forward, RAI has the potential to play a critical role throughout the full lifecycle of offshore wind infrastructure, from surveying, planning, design, logistics, operational support, training and decommissioning. This paper presents one of the first systematic reviews of RAI for the offshore renewable energy sector. The state-of-the-art in RAI is analyzed with respect to offshore energy requirements, from both industry and academia, in terms of current and future requirements. Our review also includes a detailed evaluation of investment, regulation and skills development required to support the adoption of RAI. The key trends identified through a detailed analysis of patent and academic publication databases provide insights to barriers such as certification of autonomous platforms for safety compliance and reliability, the need for digital architectures for scalability in autonomous fleets, adaptive mission planning for resilient resident operations and optimization of human machine interaction for trusted partnerships between people and autonomous assistants. Our study concludes with identification of technological priorities and outlines their integration into a new ‘symbiotic digital architecture’ to deliver the future of offshore wind farm lifecycle management.

In this paper, the problem of fault estimation and localization in the connecting dynamic elements of distributed heating and cooling systems are treated. The fault represents the physical parameter change related to the heat transfer between the system and the external environment. First, based on the bi-linear dynamic state space model of the system in the presence of a fault, structural observability analysis using Signed Directed Graph (SDG) has been performed to investigate the sensor placement problem. Then, a nonlinear observer with a parameter adaptation algorithm was proposed for fault estimation. The simulation results show that it can successfully detect and estimate the fault. Fault localization along the length of the element has also been attempted, but it has been found that the localization cannot be performed using practically changeable input variables. Frequency domain analysis is presented to discuss this phenomenon. © 2022 ACM.

This paper proposes a novel approach for the design of stabilizing sliding manifolds for linear systems affected by model uncertainties and external disturbances. In classical sliding mode control approaches, rejecting model uncertainties and external disturbances often relies on designing a dis-continuous control law with a suitable gain. Specifically, the greater the uncertainty, the larger the control gain. However, this approach might be detrimental to the plant. Instead, the proposed technique deals with this problem by focusing on the design of a suitable sliding manifold, where stability is guaranteed despite model uncertainties. This approach exhibits several benefits such as not needing any further identification process and designing a smaller control gain.

DC Microgrids are rapidly developing, driven by the increasing integration of renewable sources and dynamic loads. Their growing adoption in critical applications raises the need for operational safety and reliability, particularly under fault conditions. This paper presents a sensor fault-tolerant control (FTC) for DC-DC power converters in DC Microgrids designed to maintain resilient and reliable operation. The proposed FTC leverages a single Switching Unknown Input Observer (SW-UIO) at the bottom control level to estimate arbitrary sensor faults with a high accuracy (0.3% fault estimation error), allowing a real-time identification and precise control reconfiguration to accommodate sensor faults with minimal computational burden. The approach is validated under diverse conditions, including time-varying loads, complete sensor failure, noise abnormality, and simultaneous faults/failure, achieving a consistent fault accommodation of 1μs from fault occurrence to compensation. Real-time simulation has been performed in the OPAL-RT environment to assess the efficacy and superiority of the proposed sensor fault tolerant strategy in comparison to reference FTC strategies. © 2013 IEEE.
