Feasibility of a digital controlled oscillator (DCO) using a switched striped inductor has been examined. The existing DCO performs frequency control by a combination of a switched capacitor and a varactor, it is not fully digital controlled oscillator. Therefore, we focused on switched striped inductors that a minute inductance difference can be obtained by the combination of several values of the mutual inductance. The measurement results show an average frequency accuracy of 2.0 ppm and a maximum frequency accuracy of 26 ppm in the band of 12.4-12.6 GHz. Also, the phase noise of proposed DCO exhibits -98.0 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset from carrier. The process technology used in this work is ROHM 180 nm CMOS.

This paper addresses the synchronization problem of the non-uniform Kuramoto oscillators,i.e.,the Kuramoto oscillators with non-homogeneous damping coefficients and coupling *** a solution to this problem,we present a new necessary condition for the synchronization of the n oscillators,and show that it is tighter than an existing necessary condition proposed in D ¨orfler and Bullo(SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization,vol.50,no.3,2012).For the oscillators of cases of n = 3,4,and 5,our numerical simulation investigations of 10000 systems for each case with the parameters generated randomly show that the conservativeness of the existing condition is reduced considerably by our newly presented condition.

This paper aims to analyze the synchronization phenomena in the system consisting of n identical metronomes on a hanging plate by using the describing function(DF) method, which deals with the driving torque as a discontinuous function of the angle and angular velocity of each metronome. Different from a previous study on the synchronization of the system with the first harmonic of the angle of each metronome having the same amplitude, this paper analyzes the synchronization without any assumption on the amplitudes of n metronomes. By investigating the relation between the motion of the hanging plate(common base) and n metronomes, this paper characterizes the synchronization phenomena by the following two types of synchronization:One is the inherent synchronization, whose frequency and amplitude of all synchronized metronomes are the same as those of a single metronome on a fixed base. The other is the non-inherent synchronization, which includes the in-phase synchronization with the same amplitude, and the synchronization with different amplitudes. The analytical results are validated by numerical simulation for three metronomes about the synchronization with the same or different amplitudes.

To analyze the inrush current in a superconducting transformer, the machine parameters for the transformer were estimated from the measured current using a search algorithm. To address the large rising edge error in estimations performed using a genetic algorithm (GA), a differential evolution (DE) was used in this study. As a result, the estimated time was reduced to about 1/10 that obtained with GA, and the evaluation value indicating the difference between the measured value and the estimated value was reduced to about 1/2. Thus, it was possible to estimate with higher accuracy by using DE.

In this paper, we focus on binary sequences obtained from piecewise logistic map over integers, and show the relation between the Lyapunov exponents of the maps and results of the NIST tests for the sequences. When the Lyapunov exponent is a negative value, we confirm that the branch diagram is sparse and the bit occurrence rate is also greatly biased. We also give a sample of that the positive/negative signs of the Lyapunov exponents mostly coincide on the evaluations of the NIST tests. From the branching diagram of the piecewise logistic map, we can moreover find that there are many good pseudorandom sequences generated by the individual control parameters of the map.

We developed an expressible pupil response inter face using hemispherical displays for enhancing human-robot communication. This interface looks like robot's eyeballs and expresses vivid pupil response by speech input. In particular, the interface can express exaggerated pupil response that human cannot express. In this study, for the basic research of realizing affinitive interaction in human-robot communication, we analyzed the pupil response with affective expression during utterance using a pupil measurement device. On the basis of the analysis result, we developed a speech-driven pupil response system with affective expression using hemispherical displays. This system expresses pupil response with various affective expression by speech input. We carried out an evaluation experiment by using a sensory evaluation with the system acting as the speaker. The result demonstrated that the system with affective expression is effective for enhancing affinitive interaction.
