Security and safety remain paramount concerns for both governments and individuals *** today’s context,the frequency of crimes and terrorist attacks is alarmingly increasing,becoming increasingly intolerable to ***,there is a pressing need for swift identification of potential threats to preemptively alert law enforcement and security forces,thereby preventing potential attacks or violent *** advancements in big data analytics and deep learning have significantly enhanced the capabilities of computer vision in object detection,particularly in identifying *** paper introduces a novel automatic firearm detection surveillance system,utilizing a one-stage detection approach named MARIE(Mechanism for Realtime Identification of Firearms).MARIE incorporates the Single Shot Multibox Detector(SSD)model,which has been specifically optimized to balance the speed-accuracy trade-off critical in firearm detection *** SSD model was further refined by integrating MobileNetV2 and InceptionV2 architectures for superior feature extraction *** experimental results demonstrate that this modified SSD configuration provides highly satisfactory performance,surpassing existing methods trained on the same dataset in terms of the critical speedaccuracy *** these innovations,MARIE sets a new standard in surveillance technology,offering a robust solution to enhance public safety effectively.

The industry is rapidly transitioning from the 4.0 era to the 5.0 era, prompting renewed interest among scholars in scheduling problems. They allow operations to process and assemble various components simultaneously. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the diverse research perspectives on the potential challenges of integrated scheduling within the framework. We identified 357 Scopus articles and analysed co-occurrence keyword (CNK) by VOSViewer tools and Global Citation Score (GCS) by Scopus tools. The research data obtained from 1993 to 2023 mainly in the subject areas of Engineering, computer science, Maths, and others. CNK identified six cluster keywords, and nine most cited articles based on normalised GCS. These results contribute to our understanding of the development of scheduling algorithms, shifting from an emphasis on manufacturing transfers to contemporary demand-centric research directions. Furthermore, this research provides a valuable perspective for policymakers, plant personnel, and manufacturing managers to make informed decisions. © 2025 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Data-driven approaches for evaluating tactical team behavior in soccer are nowadays a widespread method in sport analytics. The large amount of data collections enables experts to generate a deep tactical understanding and extract valuable measurements out of team-performances. However, these approaches are often limited in their comprehensibility and applicability for domain experts. Additionally, defensive behaviour in soccer is notoriously difficult to measure and has been receiving less attention in research and practice compared to measuring offensive performance. The motivation of this research is the design, implementation and validation of data science algorithms, that predict tactical motion of defending players after an occurring event of a pass, one of the most common events in soccer matches. The focus is the establishment and validation of different sets of rules, which simulate the movement behavior of the defending team, based on domain knowledge. The approach provides a high level of applicability for domain experts, in order to use and combine variable predefined rules for prediction, simulation and evaluation of different tactical approaches of defensive behavior. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Subspace clustering is a fundamental task in machine learning, particularly for high-dimensional datasets where the goal is to group data points that lie in distinct subspaces. Traditional methods, such as Sparse Subspace Clustering (SSC) and Low-Rank Representation (LRR), have demonstrated good performance but often suffer from high computational costs, particularly when applied to large-scale data. To address these limitations, this paper introduces a novel technique called Purity Kernel Tensor Learning (PKTL). PKTL combines the power of tensor decomposition with a purity kernel function to improve both the efficiency and effectiveness of subspace clustering. By utilizing tensor-based representations, the method captures higher-order relationships in the data, allowing for a more robust clustering process. The purity kernel function measures the coherence within the clusters, enhancing the identification of subspaces in complex datasets. The proposed approach not only reduces computational complexity but also improves the clustering accuracy compared to existing methods. Experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets, including ORL, Yale, and MNIST, show that PKTL outperforms conventional subspace clustering algorithms, both in terms of clustering accuracy and scalability. The results demonstrate the potential of PKTL in handling large datasets while maintaining high performance, making it a promising approach for scalable subspace clustering in real-world applications. © 2025 IEEE.

Quality control processes in manufacturing often still rely on manual tasks. Applying decision mining can support users by providing valuable insight into the process. This paper discusses the potential of integrating contextual information into decision mining to achieve accurate and meaningful decision rules in the context of a case study stemming from the manufacturing domain. To explore this, a new approach, DigiEMine, is presented, which addresses the gap between information extraction and practical decision mining applications by integrating information extracted from engineering drawings with time sequence data in the form of diameter measurements of workpieces. The discovery of relational decision rules is enabled, allowing for contextualization of the decision rules. The output of this approach is presented in both textual decision rules and visually on engineering drawings, empowering users to make informed quality control decisions. The case study includes three datasets originating from cylindrical workpiece production. Results demonstrate the feasibility of the approach and the ability to generate meaningful decision rules across the tested datasets. Its potential applicability extends beyond the presented case study, with conceivable scenarios in multiple domains, such as healthcare or logistics, where integrating context information, such as regulatory data, with time sequence data is required to provide additional context for decisions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Indicator-based (multi-objective) diversity optimization aims at finding a set of near (Pareto)optimal solutions that maximizes a diversity indicator, where diversity is typically interpreted as the number of essentially different solutions. Whereas, in the first diversity-oriented evolutionary multi-objective optimization algorithm, the NOAH algorithm by Ulrich and Thiele, the Solow Polasky Diversity (SP Diversity, also known as Magnitude [1]) served as a metric, other diversity indicators could be considered. We examine the parameter-free Max-Min Diversity and the Riesz s-Energy, which features uniformly distributed solution sets. Focusing on multi-objective diversity optimization, we discuss different diversity indicators from the perspective of indicator-based evolutionary algorithms with multiple objectives. We examine theoretical, computational, and practical properties of these indicators, such as monotonicity in species, twinning, monotonicity in distance, strict monotonicity in distance, uniformity of maximizing point sets, computational effort for a set of size n, single-point contributions, subset selection, and submodularity. We present new theorems—including a proof of the NP-hardness of the Riesz s-Energy Subset Selection Problem—and consolidate existing results from the literature. In the experiments, we apply these indicators in the NOAH algorithm to analyze search dynamics via an example. We study how optimizing one indicator impacts others and propose NOAH-specific modifications for the Max-Min indicator. © The Author(s) 2025.

The detection of small lesions on grape leaves plays a pivotal role in the early identification and management of plant diseases, potentially reducing significant agricultural losses. Traditional detection systems, including advanced versions such as YOLOv7, often overlook small target diseases due to resolution constraints and inadequate feature extraction capabilities. Addressing this, our research enhances the YOLOv7 architecture by incorporating a specialized prediction branch and leveraging an improved channel attention mechanism in conjunction with an Extended-Efficient Long-range Attention Network (E-ELAN). Firstly, a new detection head specifically designed for small targets enhances the resolution capabilities of the system. Secondly, the integration of asymmetric convolution into the E-ELAN facilitates refined multi-scale feature extraction, critical for distinguishing minute pathological changes. Further, we enhance the model's sensitivity to small-scale features through a revamped channel attention mechanism. Moreover, we replace the conventional Complete Intersection over Union (CIoU) with a Structured Intersection over Union (SIoU) in the loss function, significantly improving the model's localization accuracy. Experimental results from testing the optimized YOLOv7 on a dataset of grape leaves affected by three prevalent diseases show an average accuracy improvement of 2.7%, achieving a remarkable 93.5%. This substantiates our model's efficacy in enhancing small lesion detection, thereby contributing effectively to early disease intervention strategies in viticulture. © 2025 IEEE.

The neuron doctrine defines the neuron as the basic unit of the nervous system, which drives the dynamic behavior of our organs. This has led to neurons becoming the focus of modern neuroscience research and to the rise of neurocomputing, in which we try to digitally simulate human behavior. The goal being to better understand the human nervous system and gain more control over neuron-related diseases, helping doctors establish faster and more reliable medical diagnoses. In this context, we aim to simulate eye diseases and vision problems by convolving input images using a new class of neural networks based on a variable structure model of neurons presented in [1]. In this work, we focus on recreating the common convolution filters as a first step. This is the first time in neurocomputing literature that dendritic neurons have been used for dynamic convolution kernels generation and eye diseases simulation. We start with a presentation of our upgrades to the model’s flexibility and accuracy. Then, we propose a novel kernel generator algorithm to convolve the input images. Finally, we show its promising results in creating the outline, pixelization, and night convolution kernels, as well as control some metrics, including brightness and data retention. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

The growing sophistication of cyberthreats,among others the Distributed Denial of Service attacks,has exposed limitations in traditional rule-based Security Information and Event Management *** machine learning–based intrusion detection systems can capture complex network behaviours,their“black-box”nature often limits trust and actionable insight for security *** study introduces a novel approach that integrates Explainable Artificial Intelligence—xAI—with the Random Forest classifier to derive human-interpretable rules,thereby enhancing the detection of Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS)*** proposed framework combines traditional static rule formulation with advanced xAI techniques—SHapley Additive exPlanations and Scoped Rules-to extract decision criteria from a fully trained *** methodology was validated on two benchmark datasets,CICIDS2017 and *** rules were evaluated against conventional Security Information and Event Management Systems rules with metrics such as precision,recall,accuracy,balanced accuracy,and Matthews Correlation *** results demonstrate that xAI-derived rules consistently outperform traditional static ***,the most refined xAI-generated rule achieved near-perfect performance with significantly improved detection of DDoS traffic while maintaining high accuracy in classifying benign traffic across both datasets.

The given paper introduces a multi-staged AI-driven intrusion prevention system (IPS) that utilizes mathematical foundations like statistical analysis, probabilistic models, and optimization techniques to design strategic algorithms that recognize patterns as well as detect anomalies & potential attack vectors, which usually get missed out on by traditional security tools. The study focuses on the hybrid behavior that combines supervised and reinforcement learning (RL) methods to provide useful analysis of network traffic, which improves early detection of threats, whether they are known or unknown. This research demonstrates how the proposed AI-driven model can achieve a substantial decrease in the rate of false positives and improve threat detection accuracy. Thus, the given framework acts as a proactive component against today’s evolving cybersecurity threats and hence allows the creation of an efficient and responsive enterprise security framework. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2025.
