This paper investigates algorithms for distributing Internet of Things sensors within the Wildland-Urban Interface to enhance early wildland fire detection. Using geospatial data analysis and a validated wildland fire growth model, we generated burn maps to guide sensor placement strategies across a defined region. We evaluated even grid distribution, random distributions, and genetic algorithm-based methods, testing each against 50,000 burn maps with sensor counts ranging from 50 to 800. Results indicate that while even grid distribution achieved the highest detection rates, its practicality in real-world applications is limited. Genetic algorithms showed promise but require further exploration to simulate field deployment accurately. Notably, weighting sensor placement based on wildland fire growth risk did not significantly impact detection effectiveness, highlighting the need for further research into the representativeness of burn maps. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper we propose an improved recipe recommendation system that employs image recognition of food ingredients. The system is currently a mobile application that performs image recognition on uploaded or camera-captured images and recommends recipes containing the recognized ingredients. We used the ResNet-V2 architecture to build a convolutional neural network model for image recognition, which was able to identify 33 different food ingredients with an accuracy rate of 89%. The recommendation system uses the identified ingredient labels, as well as user preferences and restrictions, to display a list of recipes containing the identified ingredients. This feature allows users to discover new and exciting recipes based on the ingredients they currently have at home, without having to worry about dietary restrictions or other preferences. Overall, our system provides a convenient and personalized way for users to discover and prepare delicious meals based on their unique needs and preferences. © 2023 IEEE.

The design of an antenna requires a careful selection of its parameters to retain the desired ***,this task is time-consuming when the traditional approaches are employed,which represents a significant *** the other hand,machine learning presents an effective solution to this challenge through a set of regression models that can robustly assist antenna designers to find out the best set of design parameters to achieve the intended *** this paper,we propose a novel approach for accurately predicting the bandwidth of metamaterial *** proposed approach is based on employing the recently emerged guided whale optimization algorithm using adaptive particle swarm optimization to optimize the parameters of the long-short-term memory(LSTM)deep *** optimized network is used to retrieve the metamaterial bandwidth given a set of *** addition,the superiority of the proposed approach is examined in terms of a comparison with the traditional multilayer perceptron(ML),Knearest neighbors(K-NN),and the basic LSTM in terms of several evaluation criteria such as root mean square error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),and mean bias error(MBE).Experimental results show that the proposed approach could achieve RMSE of(0.003018),MAE of(0.001871),and MBE of(0.000205).These values are better than those of the other competing models.

As real-time data sources expand, the need for detecting anomalies in streaming data becomes increasingly critical for cutting edge data-driven applications. Real-time anomaly detection faces various challenges, requiring automated systems that adapt continuously to evolving data patterns due to the impracticality of human intervention. This study focuses on energy systems (ES), critical infrastructures vulnerable to disruptions from natural disasters, cyber attacks, equipment failures, or human errors, leading to power outages, financial losses, and risks to other sectors. Early anomaly detection ensures energy supply continuity, minimizing disruption impacts, an enhancing system resilience against cyber threats. A systematic literature review (SLR) is conducted to answer 5 essential research questions in anomaly detection due to the lack of standardized knowledge and the rapid evolution of emerging technologies replacing conventional methods. A detailed review of selected literature, extracting insights and synthesizing results has been conducted in order to explore anomaly types that can be detected using Machine Learning algorithms in the scope of Energy systems, the factors influencing this detection success, the deployment algorithms and security measurement to take in to consideration. This paper provides a comprehensive review and listing of advanced machine learning models, methods to enhance detection performance, methodologies, tools, and enabling technologies for real-time implementation. Furthermore, the study outlines future research directions to improve anomaly detection in smart energy systems. © The Author(s) 2024.

Enhancing handwritten text feature extraction through key point detection and graph representation

Handwriting typically consists of a wide range of writing forms with substantial differences in the placements and size of those writing shapes. The arrangement, organization, and spatial association of individual letters, words, and phrases on a written page are all examples of handwritten text structure. This study proposed a novel approach in which a handwritten text structure is primarily transformed into a Cartesian XY-coordinate system while maintaining its shape characteristics. The points on the contour of handwritten text with local maximum bending values are considered hypothetical breakdown points called Key Points (KPs). From the skeletal representation of handwriting, this approach first identifies KPs and their coordinate positions. After that, KPs are transformed into a graph-based representation with vertices and edges. With the use of geometric graphs, this representation attempts to capture the spatial and temporal organization of handwriting. Previous techniques focused on statistical methods, which offer fixed-size descriptions;however, graph-based representations are flexible in size and reveal the relationship between text structure. Graph representations enable the incorporation of contextual information by integrating extra features which improve text accuracy and understanding. The proposed approach is tested for writer identification and verification tasks on four benchmark datasets (CERUG-EN, CVL, Firemaker, and IAM) and one custom-built dataset. The findings demonstrated that the proposed approach obtained state-of-the-art accuracies across all the mentioned datasets. Particularly, it achieved the highest accuracy of 99.75% for identification and 99.81% for verification on the Firemaker dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Macro actions have been demonstrated to be beneficial for the learning processes of an agent and have encouraged a variety of techniques to be developed for constructing more effective ones. However, previous techniques usually do not further consider combining macro actions to form a synergistic macro action ensemble, in which synergism exhibits when the constituent macro actions are favorable to be jointly used by an agent during evaluation. Such a synergistic macro action ensemble may potentially allow an agent to perform even better than the individual macro actions within it. Motivated by the recent advances of neural architecture search (NAS), in this brief, we formulate the construction of a synergistic macro action ensemble as a Markov decision process (MDP) and evaluate the constructed macro action ensemble as a whole. Such a problem formulation enables synergism to be taken into account by the proposed evaluation procedure. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed framework is able to discover the synergistic macro action ensembles. Furthermore, we also highlight the benefits of these macro action ensembles through a set of analytical cases. © 2012 IEEE.

This study focuses on behavior patterns, which are characteristic actions common to groups or communities, to promote intercultural understanding. Understanding greeting gestures is crucial for comprehending social relationships, but these vary across cultures and regions. Recent advancements in sensing technology and artificial intelligence, such as RGB-D cameras and markerless motion capture systems, have made it easier to capture motion data in diverse formats. Therefore, it is important to extract relevant motion patterns and apply appropriate structuring for effective long-term archiving. We propose a method for extracting motion patterns using a Growing Neural Gas (GNG) algorithm with a Spiking Neuron Model. Additionally, this paper presents an experimental example of extracting a gesture pattern in Indonesian style. © 2024 IEEE.

Structure learning of Bayesian networks using sparrow optimization algorithm

Bayesian networks are powerful analytical models in machine learning, used to represent probabilistic relationships among variables and create learning structures. These networks are made up of parameters that show conditional probabilities and a structure that shows how random variables interact with each other. The structure is shown by a directed acyclic graph. Despite the NP-hard nature of learning Bayesian network structures, there has been significant progress in improving the accuracy of approximation solutions. The main focus is on score-based search strategies, which make use of functions to evaluate network models and identify structures with high scores. This study is significantly focused on structure learning Bayesian networks using the Bayesian Dirichlet equivalent uniform scoring function and metaheuristic search strategies. To this end, this paper presents the sparrow optimization algorithm (SOA), a new metaheuristic algorithm derived from the foraging behavior of sparrows. SOA performs a concurrent optimization in the solution space by simultaneously performing a local and global search that leads to the discovery of near-optimal structures. The results from our experiments on several benchmark datasets show that SOA yields overall better performance than SA and greedy search algorithms. In particular, it is claimed that by applying the proposed approach of SOA, the convergence speed is significantly higher compared with the existing ones;F1 score is 0.35 and 0.05 for the Hamming distance with better results. Given these results, signed operators prove to be very efficient in SOA’s Bayesian network structure learning as a concept, especially for real-world use. © (2024), (Society of Sytematic Innovation). Broadband response metamaterial absorber(MMA)remains a challenge among researchers.A nanostructured new zero-indexed metamaterial(ZIM)absorber is presented in this study,constructed with a hexagonal shape resonator for optical region *** design consists of a resonator and dielectric layers made with tungsten and quartz(Fused).The proposed absorbent exhibits average absorption of more than 0.8972(89.72%)within the visible wavelength of 450–600 nm and nearly perfect absorption of 0.99(99%)at 461.61 *** on computational analysis,the proposed absorber can be characterized as *** developments of ZIM absorbers have demonstrated plasmonic resonance characteristics and a perfect impedance *** incidence obliquity in typically the range of 0◦–90◦both in TE and TM mode with maximum absorbance is more than 0.8972(∼89.72%),and up to 45◦angular stability is suitable for solar cell applications,like exploiting solar *** proposed structure prototype is designed and simulated by studying microwave technology numerical computer simulation(CST)*** finite integration technique(FIT)based simulator CST and finite element method(FEM)based simulator HFSS also helps validate the numerical data of the proposed ZIM *** proposed MMA design is appropriate for substantial absorption,wide-angle stability,absolute invisible layers,magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),color images,and thermal imaging applications.
