The biosystem is a crucial system grounded in classification and detection, utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches or metaheuristic techniques. Currently, cancer of the blood cells is among the deadliest cancers in the world. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a cancer of blood cells that causes excessive proliferation of lymphocytes. It is extremely time-consuming and expensive to conduct diagnostic calculations. The number of platelets in a patient's blood is computed by a platelet count. A lacking number of platelets can indicate cancer, infection, or other health problems. A patient with too many platelets is at risk for blood strokes. A single drop of blood includes tens of thousands of platelets. The main goal of this paper is how to detect the features of blood cells and classify with predicting cancer type based on platelets analysis by using Bee Colony followed by Reptile Search Optimization (BCRSO) technique. According to the results, BCRSO algorithm performed better in terms of classification efficacy and accuracy rate than other algorithms. Based on simulation results, the proposed method is more effective than previously published research for classification optimization.

Distributed Prescribed-Time Observer for Nonlinear systems in Block-Triangular Form

This letter proposes a design of a distributed prescribed-time observer for nonlinear systems representable in a block-triangular observable canonical form. Using a weighted average of neighbor estimates exchanged over a strongly connected digraph, each observer estimates the system state despite the limited observability of local sensor measurements. The proposed design guarantees that distributed state estimation errors converge to zero at a user-specified convergence time, irrespective of observers’ initial conditions. To achieve this prescribed-time convergence, distributed observers implement time-varying local output injection gains that monotonically increase and approach infinity at the prescribed time. The theoretical convergence is rigorously proven and validated through numerical simulations, where some implementation issues due to increasing gains have also been clarified.

Diabetes mellitus is a prevalent chronic illness with severe complications that demand timely diagnosis. This study introduces an attention-enhanced Deep Belief Network (DBN) for early diabetes risk prediction, designed to address challenges associated with highly imbalanced datasets. Using a dataset from Sylhet Diabetes Hospital, which includes symptom and demographic information from patients, we applied an ensemble feature selection approach to identify critical predictors. To address the class imbalance, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) were used to generate synthetic data, ensuring the model’s robustness in identifying underrepresented cases. Additionally, a hybrid loss function combining cross-entropy and focal loss was implemented to improve classification, especially for hard-to-detect instances. Our results show that the attention-based DBN model, augmented with synthetic data from GANs and optimized with a hybrid loss function, achieves an AUC of 1.00, F1-score of 0.97, precision of 0.98, and recall of 0.95, outperforming several baseline models. This research offers a novel and effective approach for early diabetes detection, demonstrating potential for use as a clinical tool in preventive healthcare settings. © The Author(s) 2025.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disease. Complex pathogenesis behind disease formation and progression necessitated the development of new approaches to identify disease related genes and affected gene ontology (GO) terms. In this study, via exploiting GeNetOntology method, we have reanalysed a gene expression data including Crohn’s Disease (CD) and Ulcerative colitis (UC) patients and controls. In order to identify IBD related genes and affected GO terms, GeNetOntology uses GO hierarchy as the biological domain knowledge while performing gene expression data analysis based on machine learning (ML). In the training part of GeNetOntology, genes annotated with selected ontology terms have been utilized to perform a two-class classification task which generates an important set of ontologies as an output. IBD data samples were obtained from peripheral blood and colon tissue. In order to investigate the effect of different collection sites, IBD data have been analysed under different scenarios;i.e., all samples, only tissue samples and only blood samples. Experimental findings indicate that GeNetOntology can successfully determine significant disease-related ontology terms. Performance of the model slightly differs according to the sample source. Via analysing the differences/commonalities between affected gene ontologies under different scenarios, we attempt to enlighten IBD development mechanisms. © 2025 by SCITEPRESS– science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Optimizing elderly care: A data-driven AI model for predicting polypharmacy risk in the elderly using SHARE data

Background: Aging is frequently accompanied by multimorbidity, the presence of multiple chronic conditions, which contributes to declines in both cognitive and physical function and presents complex health challenges. One such challenge is Polypharmacy (PP), defined as the concurrent use of more than five medications. Methods: We used data from participants older than 50 years who were present in wave 6 and at least one of the subsequent three waves of the SHARE study, aiming to predict PP risk at 2, 4, and 6-year intervals. We selected the predictor variables using LASSO regression and evaluated eight ML models using a rigorous cross-validation strategy to ensure robustness and reliability. Findings: Our analysis reveals an upward trend in PP prevalence across the surveyed countries, with aggregate figures rising from 34.03% (95% CI 33.1-34.9) in wave 7 to 36.75% (95% CI 35.6-37.9) in wave 8, reaching 39.91% (95% CI 38.9-40.9) in wave 9. LASSO regression identified 17 key predictors of PP risk, which were related to socio-demographic factors, lifestyle factors, physical and mental health, and disease history. Among the models evaluated, the Categorical Boosting ML model performed best, yielding overall accuracies of 75.08%, 73.7%, and 71.65% and recall rates of 72.83%, 70.48%, and 67.96% for the 2, 4, and 6-year intervals, respectively. Interpretation: This study uncovers a rising trend of PP. It demonstrated the potential of using longitudinal data and ML to predict PP. Moreover, our findings suggest that mental health is an important factor to consider when addressing PP. © 2025 International Brain Research Organization (IBRO)

Data augmentation effectively expands feature distribution in time series classification, enhancing downstream task performance. However, existing techniques often fail to maintain semantic consistency between augmented and original time series data, causing label noise and thereby degrading downstream task performance. We argue that data augmentation should preserve time series semantic consistency and expand the non-semantic information space. In this paper, we reformulate data augmentation as a semantic path planning problem between original data and augmented data, modeled as a Markov Decision Process (MDP). We propose a reinforcement learning-based algorithm (RL) named FreqSYN, where the action space is defined by a set of learnable Gaussian kernels that perturbs the frequency domain of the original data to generate augmented samples. The confidence coefficients of augmented data in semantically relevant classification tasks are used as a reward to iteratively refine the FreqSYN. Our method is validated across four datasets, achieving state-of-the-art performance, with a 2% improvement in F1 score over the SimPSI method. Rising industrial complexity demands efficient mobile robots to drive automation and productivity. Effective navigation relies on perception, localization, mapping, path planning, and motion control, with path planning being key. The Time Enhanced A * (TEA *) algorithm extends A * by adding time as a dimension to resolve temporal conflicts in multi-robot coordination. However, inconsistencies in edge lengths within the graph can hinder optimal path calculation. To address this, a Graph Decomposition submodule was developed to standardize edge lengths and temporal costs. Integrated into a ROS-based fleet coordination system, this approach significantly reduces execution time and improves coordination capacity.

Social media networks play a major role in expressing people's feelings, reviews, and thoughts. One of the popular linguistic patterns to express or criticize one's ideas with ridicule is sarcasm, where they have unintended and intended meanings in written text. The sarcastic text is used to reverse the polarity of the sentiment. As a result, sarcasm detection in the text positively affects the sentimental analysis (SA) tasks and improves accuracy. The sarcasm recognition of Arabic content is constrained even though Arabic is the most popular language for web content sharing, and yet still naive owing to various challenges, such as the insufficient data sources, the multiple dialects, and the morphological structure of the Arabic language. This study presents an Artificial Intelligence Driven Sarcasm Detection using Optimal Deep Learning (AIDSD-ODL) technique on Arabic tweets. In the AIDSD-ODL technique, a hyperparameter-tuned DL model is utilized to identify sarcastic or non-sarcastic Arabic tweets. At the initial stage, the AIDSD-ODL method undergoes data pre-processing to convert the input tweets into a compatible format. In the next phase, the Glove word embedding process is used in the AIDSD-ODL technique. The self-attention bidirectional long short-term memory (SA-BiLSTM) model is utilized for sarcasm detection. The Al-Biruni Earth Radius (BER) model is implemented for the hyperparameter selection process to enhance the performance of the SA-BiLSTM network. The experimental results of the AIDSD-ODL method are examined under the Arabic tweets dataset. The comparison study of the AIDSD-ODL method portrayed a superior accuracy value of 94.20 % over existing models. © 2025 The Authors

This paper presents StreamTag, a platform designed for the efficient management of labeled data in healthcare environments, particularly for activity recognition systems in residential and nursing home settings. Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is crucial for monitoring patient behaviors and supporting personalized care, and this field has evolved significantly with advances in IoT and AI. StreamTag integrates a flexible data labeling structure and a modular architecture, enabling data collection, labeling, and secure management of activity data. The system leverages non-relational databases for scalable data handling, along with secure protocols to ensure data integrity and privacy. This work examines existing approaches in HAR, including data-driven, knowledge-based, and hybrid models, and situates StreamTag as a versatile solution that combines flexible user-controlled labeling with high adaptability for diverse healthcare contexts. The paper presented an intuitive control system using electromyography (EMG) data that is obtained from the Myo gesture control armband. The aim of this study is to enable users to control multiple devices with a single EMG device in an intuitive way. The presented system shows the ability of EMG-based gestures to control Phillips Hue that allow user to control light bulb by simple hand movements. Moreover, the authors also developed new functionalities, which is according to users' preferences, to register gestures. These functions aim to improve the usability and enhance the naturalness of operations. Additionally, unique gestures, which less common in everyday life, is defined to reduce misrecognition when switching between different devices. Furthermore, to achieve reliable and accurate recognition of multiple gestures, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) models is considered to be a machine learning method for training processed EMG data. The experiment results demonstrate significant improvements in user experience and practical applicability in various interactive scenarios. © 2025 IEEE.
