Kidney disease (KD) is a gradually increasing global health concern. It is a chronic illness linked to higher rates of morbidity and mortality, a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and numerous other illnesses, and expensive medical expenses. The machine learning (ML) models are applied for KD prediction with higher accuracy and precision. The KD dataset has uncertainty and vague information, so, we used the neutrosophic set (NS) to deal with vague and uncertainty information in the KD dataset. The KD dataset is converted into the N-KD dataset with three membership functions: truth, indeterminacy, and falsity. Three ML models are used in this study such as logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and k-nearest neighbor (KNN). These ML models are applied to the N-KD dataset. The results show the LR has higher accuracy and precision on the N-KD dataset than the original KD dataset. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

The rapid advancement of deepfake technology has introduced significant challenges and opportunities across various domains. This article proposes a robust deepfake detection pipeline utilising a combination of attention mechanisms, pre-trained Vision Transformers (ViTs), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. The initial phase of the pipeline involves preparing photos and videos, potentially using optional facial detection to enhance accuracy. Vision Transformers derive features by capturing the global dependencies of input data. Long short-term memory (LSTM) networks address inter-frame temporal dependencies, whereas multi-head and traditional attention processes focus on essential elements. Ultimately, fully connected layers are employed for classification within the ensemble architecture, which consolidates the outcomes of several models. To ensure generalisability, assessment and regularisation approaches are employed to train the model using labelled datasets. Given the escalating threat of deepfakes, the findings indicate that the pipeline can consistently distinguish between genuine and fabricated information. © 2025 The Authors

Smart cities have attracted extensive coverage from multidisciplinary studies, and many artificial intelligence (AI) solutions have been designed. Conversely, cybersecurity has constantly been a crucial issue and is becoming gradually dangerous in smart cities. The attack defence models are inappropriate for perceiving multistep assaults as the recognition rules are restricted, and efficacy is partial due to many false security alarms. Therefore, an innovative solution is immediately required to progress cybersecurity defence ability. Machine learning (ML) methods are commonly employed to recognize numerous attacks because they could help network administrators grab analogous initials to avert intrusion. This study presents Cybersecurity using a Crested Porcupine Optimizer Algorithm with Hybrid Deep Learning Models (CCPOA-HDLM). The foremost intention of this study is to improve cybersecurity detection and classification in smart city environments. To accomplish that, the CCPOA-HDLM method comprises distinct processes such as min-max normalization, improved Salp swarm algorithm (ISSA)-based feature selection, Multi-Channel Convolutional Neural Network - Recurrent Neural Network (MCNN-RNN)-based cybersecurity detection, and crested porcupine optimizer (CPO)-based parameter selection process. Primarily, data normalization utilizing min-max normalization is implemented. Next, the CCPOA-HDLM method utilizes ISSA based feature selection method to select optimum features. The CCPOA-HDLM technique employs a hybrid of the MCNN-RNN model for the cybersecurity detection and classification process. Moreover, the hyperparameter range of the hybrid of DL techniques occurs using the CPO technique. The experimental validation of the CCPOA-HDLM approach is performed on the UNSW-NB15 dataset, and the outcome portrayed a superior accuracy value of 99.04 % over other recent approaches under various measures. © 2025 The Authors

As global communication demand rises, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems offer high-speed data transmission and extensive coverage options but face routing challenges due to dynamic topologies. This paper introduces a Q-Learning-based routing approach that converts dynamic networks into virtually static topologies at different snapshot intervals. Simulation results on a 66-satellite Starlink constellation demonstrate that Q-Learning outperforms Dijkstra's algorithm, achieving faster convergence and reduced latency. These findings highlight the potential for Q-Learning in enhancing efficient, cost-effective satellite communications. © 2025 The Authors

This study explores the application of machine learning models in forecasting macro-economic indicators, including GDP, inflation rate, unemployment rate, and exchange rate across 11 Southeast Asian countries. The models used include Linear Regression, ARIMA, Random Forest, XGBoost, LSTM, and SVM. We conducted a performance comparison of each model based on MAE, RMSE, and R2 metrics to evaluate the accuracy of the forecasts. The experimental results indicate that Random Forest and XGBoost models excel in predicting nonlinear and complex indicators such as GDP and unemployment rate, while ARIMA and Linear Regression models perform better in time series with clear regular patterns, like inflation rate. The LSTM model shows inconsistent effective-ness, requiring large data volumes and complex optimization processes. SVM demonstrates potential in handling nonlinear data but requires careful tuning. This study concludes that using machine learning models presents significant potential for improving the accuracy of macroeconomic forecasting. However, model tuning and optimization are essential to match the characteristics of each type of economic indicator. Future research directions include developing hybrid models and integrating additional factors such as market sentiment, social and environmental indicators (ESG) to enhance forecasting outcomes. Deep Learning and Projection Neural Network With Finite-Time Convergence for Energy Management of Multi-Energy system

In this paper, an approach based on projection neural network (PNN), sliding mode control technique, and deep learning is proposed to solve the energy management problem of multi-energy systems (MES) containing dynamic parameters. First, the sliding mode technique is introduced in the PNN to design a finite-time PNN (FTPNN). The stability and finite-time convergence of the proposed FTPNN are proved by the Lyapunov method and the setting time bound is given. Then, the deep FTPNN (DFTPNN) is designed by combining deep learning with the proposed FTPNN. The dynamic parameters in the MES that change over time are used as input variables for the DFTPNN, allowing the trained DFTPNN to respond immediately to changes in the dynamic parameters and to predict the solutions of the FTPNN with different parameters directly. Simulation experiments show that FTPNN has faster convergence compared to PNN. DFTPNN significantly reduces the computation time compared to FTPNN. DFTPNN provides predicted solutions to FTPNN. Since DFTPNN can respond immediately to changes in dynamic parameters and directly provide energy management strategies under different parameters, it can adapt to changing environments and promote the economic and stable operation of MES. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Nowadays, the need for uninterrupted power supply is greater than ever. One of the most effective ways to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity is the correct selection of the method and interval of maintenance of elements in a high-voltage substation. In this way, not only is a high-quality delivery of electricity ensured, but also the possibility of equipment failure that can be dangerous for people in the substation is reduced. A high-voltage circuit breaker is a device that performs several different functions. It is used for network configuration changes, and also provides protection for equipment and personnel. High voltages and thermal (current) stresses cause aging and wear of switch parts, and through various forms of maintenance and testing, damage parts are determined and potential hazards are safely removed. This paper explains the maintenance procedures of the high-voltage SF6 circuit breaker. Using the example of a high-voltage line-bay circuit breaker, the entire 6Y circuit breaker revision procedure (revision that is carried out in six-year cycles) is presented. In addition to visual inspection, checking, cleaning and replacement of worn parts, the switch on and off times were recorded. The quality of SF6 gas was also tested by measuring the concentration of SF6 gas decomposition products and the concentration of mineral oil aerosols in SF6 gas, by measuring the dew point of the gas and controlling the volume percentage of SF6 gas. The voltage drops at the primary connections of the switches were measured, and the operation of the pressure relays was also checked. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

DeepFakes and face image manipulation methods have been widely distributed in the last few years and several techniques have been presented to check the authenticity of the face image and detect manipulation if exists. Most of the available manipulation detection techniques have been successfully applied to reveal one type of manipulation under specific conditions, however, many limitations and challenges can be encountered in this field. To overcome some limitations and challenges, this paper presents a new face image authentication (FIA) scheme based on Multi-Task Cascaded Conventional Neural Networks (MTCNN) and watermarking in Slantlet transform (SLT) domain. The proposed FIA scheme has three main algorithms that are face detection and selection, embedding, and extraction algorithms. Different block sizes have been used to divide the image into non-overlapping blocks followed by classifying them into two groups that are blocks from face area (FA) and blocks from the remaining area (RA) of the image. In the embedding algorithms, the authentication information is generated from FA blocks and embedded in the RA blocks. In the extraction algorithms, the embedded information is extracted from RA blocks and compared with the calculated data from FA blocks to reveal manipulations and localize the manipulated blocks if exist. Extensive experiments have been conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed FIA scheme for different face images. The experimental work included tests for payload, capacity, visual quality, time complexity, and localization of manipulations. The results proved the efficiency of the proposed scheme in detecting and localizing different face image manipulations such as attributes attacks, retouching attacks, expression swap, face swap, and morphing attacks. This research examines the effectiveness of nitrogen annealing and Nafion treatment in mitigating Light and Elevated Temperature Induced Degradation (LeTID) in Passivated Emitter and Rear Contact (PERC) solar cells, employing a 30-kW photovoltaic (PV) system for evaluation. As a photosensitive device, solar cells are susceptible to damage from laser irradiation, leading to reduced photoelectric conversion efficiency, structural damage, and functional loss. To minimize this loss, nitrogen annealing and Nafion treatments were applied, followed by the analysis of LeTID effects on untreated, Nafion-treated, and combined nitrogen-annealed and Nafion-treated PERC cells. Untreated cells showed an 8 % fall in open-circuit voltage (Voc) and a 7 % fill factor (FF) loss. The combined treatment (Combination of Nitrogen & Nafion Treatment) improved stability, reducing losses to 6 % in Voc and 5 % in FF. The Nafion treatment yielded the best results, limiting deterioration to 4 % in Voc and 3 % in FF. PVsyst simulations, incorporating real-world data, confirmed enhanced stability and efficiency, aiding in optimizing PV system design and maintenance. © 2025 Korean Physical Society

This paper proposes a new hybrid algorithm, combining FA, SSO, and the N-R method to accelerate convergence towards global optima, named the Hybrid Firefly Algorithm and Sperm Swarm Optimization with Newton-Raphson (HFASSON). The performance of HFASSON is evaluated using 23 benchmark functions from the CEC 2017 suite, tested in 30, 50, and 100 dimensions. A statistical comparison is performed to assess the effectiveness of HFASSON against FA, SSO, HFASSO, and five hybrid algorithms: Water Cycle Moth Flame Optimization (WCMFO), Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithm (HPSOGA), Hybrid Sperm Swarm Optimization and Gravitational Search Algorithm (HSSOGSA), Grey Wolf and Cuckoo Search Algorithm (GWOCS), and Hybrid Firefly Genetic Algorithm (FAGA). Results from the Friedman rank test show the superior performance of HFASSON. Additionally, HFASSON is applied to Cognitive Radio Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (CR-VANET), outperforming basic CR-VANET in spectrum utilization.
