Background: Hearing loss affects access to spoken language, which can affect cognition and development, and can negatively affect social wellbeing. We present updated estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study on the prevalence of hearing loss in 2019, as well as the condition's associated disability. Methods: We did systematic reviews of population-representative surveys on hearing loss prevalence from 1990 to 2019. We fitted nested meta-regression models for severity-specific prevalence, accounting for hearing aid coverage, cause, and the presence of tinnitus. We also forecasted the prevalence of hearing loss until 2050. Findings: An estimated 1·57 billion (95% uncertainty interval 1·51–1·64) people globally had hearing loss in 2019, accounting for one in five people (20·3% [19·5–21·1]). Of these, 403·3 million (357·3–449·5) people had hearing loss that was moderate or higher in severity after adjusting for hearing aid use, and 430·4 million (381·7–479·6) without adjustment. The largest number of people with moderate-to-complete hearing loss resided in the Western Pacific region (127·1 million people [112·3–142·6]). Of all people with a hearing impairment, 62·1% (60·2–63·9) were older than 50 years. The Healthcare Access and Quality (HAQ) Index explained 65·8% of the variation in national age-standardised rates of years lived with disability, because countries with a low HAQ Index had higher rates of years lived with disability. By 2050, a projected 2·45 billion (2·35–2·56) people will have hearing loss, a 56·1% (47·3–65·2) increase from 2019, despite stable age-standardised prevalence. Interpretation: As populations age, the number of people with hearing loss will increase. Interventions such as childhood screening, hearing aids, effective management of otitis media and meningitis, and cochlear implants have the potential to ameliorate this burden. Model reduction in water systems provides an efficient technique for simplifying complex hydrodynamic models without eliminating the key dynamic attributes, and is inevitable for model-based control. In particular, the first order model with adaptive time delay (ATD) has proven to be suitable for approximating hydrodynamic behavior of river reaches. Experimental results of identifying parameters of ATD models from a complex hydraulic model (e.g., HECRAS) show that the state-of-art of existing methods is not enough, because time constant and time delay mutually interact, are variably and significantly depend on flood wave characteristics. Hence, the present work proposes a procedure to identify these parameters. At first, the hydrograph of extreme flood event is generated and analyzed to derive a characteristic hydrograph. Secondly, the typical outflow is simulated by HECRAS model and the inflow and outflow generated from HECRAS are used to estimate parameters of ATD model by nonlinear programming technique. A set of time constant and time delay corresponding to characteristic flood wave will be validated by a specific flood event. This procedure is an advancement of previous methods which model flow by a simplified channel geometry. In addition, it compensates deficiencies of existing methods attempting to fix a time delay as an integer value or a constant value which introduces truncation error during routing process leading to model instability. Therefore, the approach is capable to different types of flow, and returns very promising results in real time flood forecasting and control. © 2016 ASCE.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of mortality worldwide. We conducted a genome-wide association study meta-analysis of 100,204 CRC cases and 154,587 controls of European and east Asian ancestry, identifying 205 independent risk associations, of which 50 were unreported. We performed integrative genomic, transcriptomic and methylomic analyses across large bowel mucosa and other tissues. Transcriptome- and methylome-wide association studies revealed an additional 53 risk associations. We identified 155 high-confidence effector genes functionally linked to CRC risk, many of which had no previously established role in CRC. These have multiple different functions and specifically indicate that variation in normal colorectal homeostasis, proliferation, cell adhesion, migration, immunity and microbial interactions determines CRC risk. Crosstissue analyses indicated that over a third of effector genes most probably act outside the colonic mucosa. Our findings provide insights into colorectal oncogenesis and highlight potential targets across tissues for new CRC treatment and chemoprevention strategies.

Comparative Analysis of River Flow Modelling by Using Supervised Learning Technique

The goal of this research is to investigate the efficiency of three supervised learning algorithms for forecasting monthly river flow of the Indus River in Pakistan, spread over 550 square miles or 1800 square kilometres. The algorithms include the Least Square Support Vector Machine (LSSVM), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Wavelet Regression (WR). The forecasting models predict the monthly river flow obtained from the three models individually for river flow data and the accuracy of the all models were then compared against each other. The monthly river flow of the said river has been forecasted using these three models. The obtained results were compared and statistically analysed. Then, the results of this analytical comparison showed that LSSVM model is more precise in the monthly river flow forecasting. It was found that LSSVM has he higher r with the value of 0.934 compared to other models. This indicate that LSSVM is more accurate and efficient as compared to the ANN and WR model.

Evaluation of the parameters affecting the shear strength and ductility of steel–concrete composite beam is the goal of this study. This study focuses on predicting the future output of beam’s strength and ductility based on relative inputs using a soft computing scheme, extreme learning machine (ELM). Estimation and prediction results of the ELM models were compared with genetic programming (GP) and artificial neural networks (ANNs) models. Referring to the experimental results, as opposed to the GP and ANN methods, the ELM approach enhanced generalization ability and predictive accuracy. Moreover, achieved results indicated that the developed ELM models can be used with confidence for further work on formulating novel model predictive strategy in shear strength and ductility of steel concrete composite. Furthermore, the experimental results indicate that on the whole, the newflanged algorithm creates good generalization presentation. In comparison to the other widely used conventional learning algorithms, the ELM has a much faster learning ability.

Coronary Heart Disease is one of many diseases that cause death and still being a health problem for both developed and developing countries. It is estimated to double in the next two decades, making it the biggest leading cause of death in 2020. The causes of coronary heart disease contain age and sex, with the incidence of males is more than in females but the incidence of females will increase after menopause (the end of the menstrual cycle) around the age of 50 years. This is due to estrogen (steroid compounds) have a protective effect on the onset of atherosclerosis. In this study the author wants to create a system that can detect heart disease by users before ensuring himself to the doctor to diagnose heart disease which is very dangerous. The system that the author will design used the certainty factor method to provide an assessment of the symptoms of user diagnosis. The application was designed with the desktop-based visual studio software assistance that is easy to use by everyone because it is familiar with the windows display design.

Sperm morphology is still a standard laboratory analysis in diagnosing infertility in men. Manually identification of sperm form is still not accurate, the difficulty in seeing the form of the invisible sperm from the digital microscope image is often a weakness in the process of identification and takes a long time. Therefore, male fertility identification application system is needed Through sperm abnormalities based on sperm morphology (teratospermia). The method used is invariant moment method. This study uses 15 data testing and 20 data training sperm image. That the process of male fertility identification through sperm abnormalities based on sperm morphology (teratospermia) has an accuracy rate of 80.77%. Use of time to process Identification of male fertility through sperm abnormalities Based on sperm morphology (teratospermia) during 0.4369 seconds.

Differences possessed by children with special needs such as differences in mental traits, sensory abilities, social and emotional behavior etc. of normal children causing learning and developmental barriers on children, so that requiring more specific services. Autism is one category of children with special needs who experience delays in responding to the things around him that caused by chaos in the brain work system. The tendency of autistic children who only focus on themselves makes it difficult to concentrate on one thing and easily switch when being talked. Training focus of the child can be done by giving them basic commands presented with visually appealing from the utilization of augmented reality and leap motion controller.
