system-on-chip (SoC) architectures are getting communication-bound both from physical wiring and distributed computation point of view. Wiring delays are becoming dominating over gate delays, which favors short links. The larger SoC the more probably the overall computation is heterogeneous and localized rather than evenly balanced over the chip. These two factors motivate Network-on-Chip (NoC) that brings the techniques developed for macro-scale, multi-hop networks into a chip. But due to shrinkage of transistors and integration of billions of transistors in a single chip, has made NoC no longer suitable to cater for high latency and demand of bandwidth in a multicore processor environment. Thus they have introduce HONoC (hybrid optical network on chip) to cater for the high latency and demand in bandwidth. There are many research that focus on the area of architecture, routing algorithm and switching strategies in order to make the communication run optimally in HONoC. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate main problems in HONoC. From the evaluation, three main problems has been identified which are path collisions, low resource usage and high power consumption in HONoC.

In this paper, the accuracy of soft computing technique in solar radiation prediction based on series of measured meteorological data (monthly mean sunshine duration, monthly mean maximum and minimum temperature) taking from Iseyin meteorological station in Nigeria was examined. The process, which simulates the solar radiation with support vector regression (SVR), was constructed. The inputs were monthly mean maximum temperature (Tmax), monthly mean minimum temperature (Tmin) and monthly mean sunshine duration ( $$ \bar{n} $$ ). Polynomial and radial basis functions (RBF) are applied as the SVR kernel function to estimate solar radiation. According to the results, a greater improvement in estimation accuracy can be achieved through the SVR with polynomial basis function compared to RBF. The SVR coefficient of determination R 2 with the polynomial function was 0.7395 and with the radial basis function, the R 2 was 0.5877.

In ad hoc networks, backoff-based OR (opportunistic routing) protocols, which autonomously selects a forwarder among the potential forwarders based on a random backoff time, have been proposed. However, each potential forwarder must wait for the backoff time to avoid packet collisions among receivers. In addition, the terminal density strongly affects the performance since the backoff-based OR protocols improve the performance by using multiple terminals. In this paper, we propose a novel OR protocol called PRIOR (prioritized forwarding for opportunistic routing). In PRIOR, a terminal called prioritized forwarder, which forwards packets without using a backoff time, is selected among neighbours. In addition, we propose a hop-by-hop retransmission control that performs the retransmission terminal selection on the basis of a neighbour relation with the PFs. Moreover, we introduce an explicit acknowledgement mechanism on the basis of the difference of hop counts to alleviate the bad effect of the retransmission control in dense environments. Finally, we evaluate PRIOR in comparison with conventional backoff-based OR protocols in computer simulation.

Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) standard was designed to improve quality of experience (QoE) by enabling video distribution at different quality levels according to the clients' network conditions. Moreover, DASH is compatible with the H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC) technology. In Content Delivery Networks (CDNs)-P2P hybrid approach, users can fetch contents from the CDN edge network, the P2P network, or from both networks. In this paper, we present a Hybrid CDN-P2P-SVC-DASH system, mainly to improve user quality of experience. Our system is based on clustering the peers to improve the user download time. The simulation results show that the clusters improve the QoE, reduce the start-time and reduce the load on the tracker. We also found that relatively small clusters can achieve most of the potential benefits engrained in the CDN-P2P hybrid approach.

This paper presents a new framework for mobile robot to perform localization and build topological-metric hybrid map simultaneously. The proposed framework termed as Genetic Bayesian ARAM consists of two main components: 1) Steady state genetic algorithm (SSGA) for self-localization and occupancy grid map building and 2) Bayesian Adaptive Resonance Associative Memory (ARAM) for topological map building. The Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) is a novel bio-inspired optimization algorithm that mimics the real life processes of the flower pollination. In this paper, we review the applications of the Single Flower Pollination Algorithm (SFPA), Multi-objective Flower Pollination Algorithm an extension of the SFPA and the Hybrid of FPA with other bio-inspired algorithms. The review has shown that there is still a room for the extension of the FPA to Binary FPA. The review presented in this paper can inspire researchers in the bio-inspired algorithms research community to further improve the effectiveness of the PFA as well as to apply the algorithm in other domains for solving real life, complex and nonlinear optimization problems in engineering and industry. Further research and open questions were highlighted in the paper.
