E-Learning aims to improve the quality of learning through the use of modern information and communication technologies. Designing E-Learning course materials is the most critical task because its entire educational system depends on the way content is presented. For that reason the necessity of evaluating the web based E-Learning content is arising. The evaluation of E-Learning content is beneficial for learner as well as instructional designer because it facilitates learner to choose the best learning material, and helps designers to improve the quality of their learning materials. This paper describes the importance of automating the pedagogical evaluating process of web based E-Learning contents and the theoretical framework used in the evaluation process. The aim of this research is to improve the quality of the content in e-Learning websites using the feedback given by the automated pedagogical evaluation process.

Personal Learning Environment (PLE) takes the advantages of the evolution of Web 2.0 technology. PLE aims to create a learning environment where each learner is in control of his or her own learning goal(s), activity(s) and experience. PLE promotes self-regulation and learning autonomy in a learner, eventually promoting lifelong learning that crosses the boundary of higher education institution. PLE can be viewed as a complement or an extension to the existing Learning Management system (LMS). LMS has its limitation in supporting learners' diverse learning needs. In this paper, we proposed a framework for PLE to encourage learner autonomy. The framework is then applied on "Studious Network" which act as the platform for learners to explore the Web 2.0 applications in the learning process and to exercise learner autonomy in an informal learning environment. The findings show that users of Studious Network generally have positive user experience in using the system.

In recent years, bots and botnets have become one of the most dangerous infrastructure to carry out nearly every type of cyber-attack. Their dynamic and flexible nature along with sophisticated mechanisms makes them difficult to detect. One of the latest generations of botnet, called HTTP-based, uses the standard HTTP protocol to impersonate normal web traffic and bypass the current network security systems (e.g. firewalls). Besides, HTTP protocol is commonly used by normal applications and services on the Internet, thus detection of the HTTP botnets with a low rate of false alarms (e.g. false negative and false positive) has become a notable challenge. In this paper, we review the current studies on HTTP-based botnet detection in addition to their shortcomings. We also propose a detection approach to improve the HTTP-based botnet detection regarding the rate of false alarms and the detection of HTTP bots with random patterns. The testing result shows that the proposed method is able to reduce the false alarm rates in HTTP-based botnet detection successfully.

Although the cognitive deficits due to age-related brain differences have been largely analyzed, the altered connectivity of task related functional networks in aging requires more studies. As the brain of old adults experience some alterations in task performance during cognitive challenges, the related effects on connectivity of functional networks are here evaluated using event-related functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). The fMRI data have been acquired for simple visual and motor tasks from 18 subjects (8 young and 10 elderly). For each subject, several Functional Connectivity (FC) networks including, motor, visual and the default mode networks are firstly calculated using a conventional voxel-wise correlation analysis with predefined region of interest. Then, the strength of functional connectivity is assessed and compared for different age groups. The current study has evaluated three hypotheses on FC of aging brain: the frontal regions involved with motor network try to compensate for declines in the posterior regions, default-mode network are less suppressed and, the posterior regions involved with visual network exhibit less connectivity. The first two hypotheses are accepted by analysis results but visual network behaves differently. Also, results show that the task related functional connectivity is considerably altered in old adults compared to young adults. Old adults demonstrate higher connectivity strength on average with a slightly smaller variance than young adults. © 2013 IEEE.

Evaluation of C and P Factors in Universal Soil Loss Equation on Trapping Sediment: Case Study of Santubong River

Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) is the most comprehensive technique available to predict the long term average annual rate of erosion on a field slope. USLE was governed by five factors include soil erodibility factor (K), rainfall and runoff erodibility index (R), crop/vegetation and management factor (C), support practice factor (P) and slope length-gradient factor (LS). In the past, K, R and LS factors are extensively studied. But the impacts of factors C and P to outfall Total Suspended Solid (TSS) and % reduction of TSS are not fully studied yet. Therefore, this study employs Buffer Zone Calculator as a tool to determine the sediment removal efficiency for different C and P factors. The selected study areas are Santubong River, Kuching, Sarawak. Results show that the outfall TSS is increasing with the increase of C values. The most effective and efficient land use for reducing TSS among 17 land uses investigated is found to be forest with undergrowth, followed by mixed dipt. forest, forest with no undergrowth, cultivated grass, logging 30, logging 10^6, wet rice, new shifting agriculture, oil palm, rubber, cocoa, coffee, tea and lastly settlement/cleared land. Besides, results also indicate that the % reduction of TSS is increasing with the decrease of P factor. The most effective support practice to reduce the outfall TSS is found to be terracing, followed by contour-strip cropping, contouring and lastly not implementing any soil conservation practice.

Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is applied as a process improvement model not only in software industry but also in education sector. This study proposes a maturity model, which constructed based on CMM, in guiding curriculum designers in Institution of Higher Learning (IHL) in Malaysia to design quality curriculum. The proposed maturity model possesses process and product elements;and it contains a set of key process areas and best practices. A case study is carried out in a private IHL in Malaysia to perform a pilot test on the proposed maturity model. Mobile banking is a service that allows customers to do banking transactions on their mobile phone. Bank transactions, such as balance inquiry, money transfer, online payments and other mobile services usually require the transmission of critical information. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to provide the security services including the confidentiality, integrity, and authentication. The Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) system can be used to provide the four security services, in particular, the authentication service for mobile banking. Because the current PKI systems use the RSA asymmetric algorithm with key lengths of 1024-4096 bits and advanced web browsers to deal with the certificate validation, it is not appropriate for the mobile devices, which have limited resources and software. This paper proposes an efficient PKI system for mobile devices. In the improved model, the NTRU replaces the RSA algorithm and the Micali's NOVOMODO system has been use to provide efficient certificate validation. This new setup for PKI complies with the limited resources of the mobile devices and provides the four security services with cheap computational costs).

In this paper, we propose a modification method of color image, for a given region in the image, to obtain the image in which the region shows the highest saliency. Generally, it is thought that the most important part of an information system that assists human activities is a natural interface with human. In addition, eye-gaze information strongly reflects the human interest or their attention. Therefore, a gaze-based interface is promising for future practical applications. In particular, if we can smoothly guide the user's visual attention toward a target without interrupting their current visual attention, the usefulness of the gaze-based interface will be highly enhanced. In order to realize a novel interface based on visual attention, we propose a modification method for color image based on visual saliency map. The proposed method iteratively modifies the intensity and color so that the saliency inside the specified region increases while that outside the region decreases. This iteration is carried out until we obtain the image in which the specified region is most salient over the entire image. With the image obtained in this way, we can smoothly attract the user's visual attention to the specified region, without any interruption to the user's gaze. We evaluated the proposed method by a gaze measurement system and subjective experiments. As a result, we confirmed that the user's visual attention is indeed attracted toward our specified region without uncomfortable feeling.

In the paper a flow stress model based on internal variables is shortly presented. The multiplicative model contains three parts. In the model, the normalized dislocation density ρm was considered, as a strain function only, independently to the strain rate and the temperature. Influence of varying processing conditions(the strain rate and the temperature) is introduced as a factor. The first one is a model of so called "master" curve. It is an internal variable model based on dislocation density and its output value strongly depends on strain and very weakly on temperature and strain rate. The second factor introduces varying deformation conditions. Changes of flow stress do not occur instantly with the change of deformation conditions, but it requires some strain for transition. The third part considers influence of recrystallization. The results of the model parameters identification and verification in varying deformation conditions are presented in this paper.
